What have you got, which although you dont use, you would never get rid of, for myself the main thing is a Bible, a king James one dated 1863, I found it in a skip when I worked for a scrap firm, so I took it home and my wife took it to heart, and made into our family Bible, even putting the births of ourselves and our children into the cover, I also at the same time found a descriptive world Atlas, by John Bartholomew dated 1871, the page showing Africa, has text all the way through it saying unexplored, it will maybe have some interest to the grand kids, but when you think what is accessible in this day and age, is it feasible to keep something like that nowadays, The Bible I would never get rid of, although not exactly a believer, I class myself as an agnostic, and can happily attend many churches and follow the the services and do so, except certain ones which shall remain nameless, to me , if you have to go door to door to sell religion, then its not a viable commodity, it will be interesting to hear your views, especially from the younger end of the forum   |

Anything over 100 years old is most certainly worth keeping, Aitch. I too have a very old "church" bible with colour plates in it and as most folk know, I've never been a god-botherer, but this came into my hands on the death of my grandmother who was born circa 1895. Books should be cherished, no matter what their age, but most especially when they are of a great age and have survived. Just because you can look summat up on the internet doesn't replace the beauty of books. Also, I have many other things which I won't be able to get rid of for more personal reasons. |

I do have a bracelet that belonged to my nans grandmother...It is probably tat knowing my luck (I say that, i wouldn't know if it was tat or worth a fortune lol) and even though we no longer talk to my dads parents, i have still kept it. |

On my keyring is an 'owd tatty brass dog tag that belonged to an 'owd tatty mutt called 'Duke' that I will never part with. At a time when my spirit was at a very low ebb that little dog's unconditional devotion and friendship saved me from doing something stupid. I suppose at sometime we all have a 'long dark night of the soul'... I was lucky to have that little chap with me during mine. He is long gone now, but I do treasure that dog tag. Oh... and I also have drawers and drawers of crud that 'may just come in'... |
