If you was invited out for a meal and the choice of venue and meal was yours, what would you go for, not that I am throwing invites out, but you never know, come on people what food do you like, and where would you like to go (within pocket and reason)

Well Aitch, as we both live in the Wigan area I have to think what is available but, as you know, I don't get out much these days so I really don't know places to go.

I love Indian food, and I'd like to try a Chinese buffet, but quite honestly, I do enjoy a good English type meal as well.

The Vale Royal for an English carvery is very nice, but you know more places than I do, so surprise me! :E :E

Starter for me would be a clear French onion soup or prawn cocktail. For the main meal, I'd like a medium/rare steak with Julienne of carrots, shredded sweetheart cabbage a la dente, sweet corn, little boiled spuds in jackets, with a pepper sauce. No dessert for me though. :E

Where are ya taking me, Aitch? Anywhere will do!

I've always wanted to go to a Mexican restaurant but hardly any where I live. Not sure where there is good places to eat in wigan as I've never been to any restaurants there. Only been to the McDonald's after shopping in primark but that doesn't count :)

MAC WHO? :X :X :X

Another tale to tell. Many years ago my mum and I went into Wigan town centre and we called in at this brand new place called McDonald's. This is my own personal explanation of a McDonald's. Plastic tables, plastic chairs, plastic cups, plastic plates, plastic cutlery, plastic food and plastic staff! Only once and once was too many times! Never again. I don't classify fast food outlets as restaurants. :sadno:

There are some excellent restaraunts in Wigan and district, the Beech Tree at Standish being one of them, the Dicconson Arms at Wrightington, the Cherry Tree is another which is a Michelin star restaurant, extremely expensive,, and there are many others. Good pub grub as well at quite a few.

Lol Mollie they don't even give you plates or cutlery there anymore either. I suppose that I know a few good chain restaurants, will have to google them and see if there are any in Wigan. I was looking at restaurants in Bath on Google earlier, my boyfriend was going to take me to Jamie Olivers Italian for my birthday but apparantly they don't do reservations unless 8 plus are dining. Looked at the menu and they were charging loads just for nibbles (4.50) for a bit of bread, anyways decided not to go and choose somewhere else. Getting back to the google search I spotted a gorgeous place and showed my other half, when he saw the name he nearly choked. I'd only gone and pointed out THE most expensive restaurant in Bath lol, he told me it would cost about 200pounds onwards, so I said "it shows what high standards I've got". I've left it up to him to choose the place :)

No, I don't believe in paying daft money for a meal when there are folk starving in the world, lass, but that's just me.

Wadda ya mean they don't give you plates and cutlery anymore? Bloody Philistines! :E

Wouldn't go to Jamie Oliver's either 'cos he always looks like he's spitting when he's talking and I don't want spit in me grub either! :E

Now then, another tale! :E I have to admit, that I got partial to a bit of KFC on the odd occasion, until I realised that KFC meant Kan't Find Chicken!  Anyway, when I was over in America, we went to a couple of KFCs and they're nothing like they are here. Over there, you can order the usual stuff but, they also have a KFC Carvery in each outlet. With this you could choose your whatever chicken you wanted, plus vegetables, mash and gravy, and then there was also a section for desserts as well, all in one price of about $4 - about two quid. Now these were really good bargains, and tasted wonderful - much better than you get over here.

Very true Mollie. Jamie doesn't actually work in there as he has a chain of them all over the place, he does choose high standard chefs though but as i said he is greedy as he is trying to charge high prices for stuff you would get for nothing in other places e.g. bread. I have had KFC before but don't go anymore, especially after finding out what they do to the chicken to get it bigger (shudder just thinking about it) lol.

we went for a meal and i have never ever tasted fish or chips like it, my son had a steak and ale pie which i had a taste of and i would travel 80 miles to eat ti again

we went there several times when we spent a week in Devon
