I am not one to go out for a meal. Fish & Chips would be my preferred meal sat on a picnic bench looking out over a lake or river in summer. Fish jumping ducks diving swans pruning themselves idyllic. Not forgetting the odd can of Carling :cookin: |

... I would not object if some lovely lady accompanied me to The Dog & Gun in Keswick for a dish of their marvellous Hungarian Goulash served with new potatoes and garlic bread.. and 'mayhap' washed down with a pint or two of some local brew. Loki... CARLING!!!! You can get real ale in cans you know! Speckled Hen, Tanglefoot and Abbot's Ale... and of course... the 'Bishop's Finger'. |

Oh you lot are making me peckish now.... There are a few nice restaurants round here. One recent meal I had which was LOVELY was a garlic mushroom starter, balmoral chicken (chicken stuffed with haggis) and chocolate fudge cake with cream for dessert (gotta have the fudge cake  I usually only have 2 courses when we go out though, and tend to skip the starter so I can have one savoury and one sweet course :) |

One of the more expensive places in the area that I visited, was the Mulberry Tree at Wrightington, It was a nice enough meal, but didnt warrant the prices charged, that was a couple of years ago, whether it has altered any I will wait and see, if any one else has been, I certainly wont be going any time soon, I am going to the La Scala on the A6 at Wingates tomorrow, it is a nice restaurant, and although a nice Italian place, I never have an Italian meal, The Owls down rectory Lane at Standish is good, as is the Beeches on school lane Standish, I also quite like the Original Farmers Arms In Eccleston,( not to be confused with the Old farmers arms in Heskin) :cookin:  |

Yes, the Mulberry Tree at Wrightington, not the Cherry Tree as I said earlier, but I've never been. I knew it was summat to do with trees. :E The Farmer's Arms in Eccleston is also very good but it's years since I went there. Aitch, what about that place in Rufford? I can't remember the name of it now, but they grow their own vegetables and last time I went the food was brilliant - but expensive. |
