How stupid is this

We had our fuel bill today duel fuel for £296, we have been paying for the bill when it comes
but decided to see what paying monthly by direct debit with one of the online deals would
cost including the bill. it goes over a 12 month period.

We have been on the online deals before and stopped because even with the discount, your
expect to pay a silly amount and we were in credit by almost £500 of course they took it
off the next bill we had which was a winter one, but we were still in credit, and after pointing
this out we were told the monthly payment would not be reduced as we needed to consider the
rise in fuel prices etc over the next year.

so we cancelled and paid on demand for the last three bills, anyway i didnt really want to
pay the full bill all in one go this time so hubby phoned them tonight

the result was after almost 2 hours we were given 5 amounts to pay monthly from £120
to £180 O.O, we had a chat and he called back to say we would go for the £120 per month
they said thats fine after you have paid this curren bill

well the air was blue.. in the end hubby demended to speak to a supervisor, reported
what had gone off over the two hours being P****d about, and he said sorry we have
to take into account the next year and increases etc, they can see our bill has gone down
due to energy saving but said sorry we want £145 a month which will include the new bill

So this is where i flip .. and ask them what happens if we pay this new bill
at £100 per month no direct debit, he say nothing, O.O O.O as long as its clear before
the new bill O.O O.O so in a nut shell if you want to pay your bill over 3 months as long
as its clear by the next reading, they dont take any action to recover the bill

three guesses what we are going to do

You know, I'm just fed up of the bloody lot of them. There's not one to mend another. Gas and electricity is going to be severely inflated soon so it makes no difference what you do.

Most folk on here won't remember this, but after Gordon died in the September of 2008, I didn't put my central heating on that winter, and it was incredibly cold. I was afraid to use my gas cooker, all because I was frightened that I wouldn't be able to afford it on just my wage alone. I was still paying for my mortgage and my car, so money was tight. I survived it though.

It is ludicrous that if you're in credit they should impose things like that on you Pam. If you were £500 in credit, you should have rung them and asked for a cheque back in that amount, THEN re-assess you. They can't keep that money as it isn't theirs, it's yours.

Very frustrating indeed.

Mollie i can well understand how worried you must have been with the fuel bills after
loosing Gordon, and using as little as possible.

They dont care if you reduce the amount of fuel you use, we had a dodgy emersion heater
and we didnt realise it, but Alan changed it, it had been staying on all the time, plus our
fridge and freezer was working overtime as the seals were worn, and a few other odd and
sods we have done to save on fuel, but try and tell them that, even when its on there
system how much we have used compared to 12 months ago

so the money is staying in our bank, and they will get £100 a month which will clear
this bill befoe the next one. and form now on, we will do that with every bill, why should
anyone pay in advance it stinks

The cost of gas and electric is expensive. :O We have had a wood burner put in to save on the gas bill. My husband gets all the wood free from work. So hopefully this will cut down on our bill.

Yes its very expensive Blue  but trying to get money out of your BEFORE you use it
in my opinion is not on

if we had paid this bill for £296 .. then they still wanted £121 a month as well  so when
the next bill came in at the begining of Dec we would have paid £363 in advance and so on

that how we ended up so far in advance just over a year ago, because they refused to reduce
the monthly payments .. so we loose out on the online discount but i refuse to line there
pockets in advance

we could pay the current bill out right but its our turn now to pay it over the three month

That's how they make millions in profit, Pam. You pay, they profit. It does stink, but it's always been the way no matter which provider you use.

At one time, I was paying more than a friend of mine who had his central heating on from early morning till 11 p.m. I was only setting mine to come on at around 3 p.m. so it would be warm when returning from work, so I switched my provider to Scotttish Power, which he was on. Made no difference in the end.

I'm going to send in my next two meter readings this weekend, and see what I've used and try to compare it. I'll admit, I'm not much good at this sort of thing, but I won't be ripped off. I'll check on the internet for the next provider that's cheapest in my area and, if needs be, I'll switch again, and I'll keep doing it. I've no loyalties to any one of 'em.

I know what you mean Pam. We live in rip off Britain. Where every one rips us off, and they alway want you to pay up front for everything. I blame the Government for selling all the country's assets. We pay the dearest fule prices, because other countrys own our fuel.

me neither Mollie and Blue, i wont be ripped off anymore we are with E.ON for what its worth
your between the devil and the deep blue sea to be honest.

My dad used to work for E.ON, he took a deal and retired at 50, with a really good
pay off and company pension, he was in a high paid position, but decided he wanted
to retire early

He knows how they work, and he has stressed many times, they offer discounts to pay
monthly but in the end they want advanced payment which they also include possible
rise in fuel and 90% of customers are sucked in, or wont argue

i mean just take our bill they want us to pay the new bill, that ok, but then they want
£121 per month as well IN ADVANCE so come december, we are £363 in credit

point one they said you will most likely used more due to the autumn/winter, ok point
taken, but they apply 23% discount on the online 9 plan, so that kicks that into touch
but you might as well be taking to a brick wall

I changed from E-On to Scottish Power a few months ago. E-On were ripping me off grand-style. They were charging me £156.00 a month for gas and electricity. Now I live alone, and I know for a fact I wasn't using that amount of fuel. I rang them to bring it down to a reasonable amount, but they said no, so that's when I changed to Scottish Power, and I still reckon I'm being ripped off, although it is lower than what E-On were charging.
