A tortoise worth £1,000 is one of many possessions to have been stolen during a recent burglary in Whitchurch. Sheila Hatton left her residence unoccupied for just 30 minutes and discovered upon returning that her 9-year-old pet Jessy, as well as a £10,000 BMW and a Blackberry, were missing. Speaking to the Whitchurch Herald, Hatton explained that she is petrified her beloved companion will die in the extreme weather currently sweeping the country. "It has been very upsetting, and I would dearly love to get Jessy back," she said. "I am worried that she will go into hibernation if she gets cold [and] she is too young to hibernate. If she is in a warm house she will be fine, but she won't survive in the cold." Jessy usually spends eight hours a day under an infra-red lamp in order to prevent her from going into hibernation, which is not considered safe enough for tortoises under the age of 10. West Mercia Police have appealed for witnesses of the break-in to come forward |

Its difficult to understand why anyone would want to steal a tortoise. A BMW, yes, and a blackberry, yes but a tortoise? Mmmm Still, I hope she gets her back, poor little thing. |

For the money Daphne. I am not sure but it may be illegal, to bring them into the country now. I remember having one when I was little. You don't here of many people having them these days. |

I didn't know that blue. I never had any desire to keep a tortoise. |
