A WOMAN who has eaten only cheese and tomato pizza for 31 years has been told she could DIE unless she quits her bizarre dining habit. Mature student Claire Simmons, 33, gags if she puts anything but a plain pizza slice in her mouth. She also SHAKES the moment she is presented with any other type of food. Now doctors have warned that her bizarre condition — known as Selective Eating Disorder — is increasing her risk of a stroke or heart attack in later life. Single Claire, of Notting Hill, West London, spoke out after The Sun highlighted the case of Stacey Irvine, 17, who survives on only chicken nuggets. She said: "I keep myself healthy with exercise and drink a lot of water. "But my GP says I'm storing up many problems for the future due to a lack of vitamins and minerals. This could lead to a stroke or heart attack." To stay healthy, experts recommend a varied diet, including some five daily portions of fruit and vegetables. But Claire said: "I'm actually scared of fruit and veg. I get so angry when people think I'm being faddy — this is a real medical condition." http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4124624/Pizza-only-diet-could-kill-me-says-scared-Claire.html |

While I agree this must be very difficult for her...................I can't help thinking that her parents or whoever brought her up have to take responsibility for this problem. According to the story she's eaten nothing but pizza for 31 years and as she's only 33, that means that this started at the age of 2. In my experience a huge number of children go through faddy stages at that age and its a parent's job to encourage that child to eat different things. Obviously this woman's mother gave in to her fads from an early age and therefore it became a way of life with her. In my opinion if her problem had been addressed back then she would not be in the situation she's in now. |

I agree with you Daphne. Parent are probably to blame. My 14 year old granddaughter used to eat nothing but chicken nuggets, spaghetti, sausage and beans from about 4 to 9 years of age. We could get her to eat some veg now and again. After screaming and crying from her. :wall: We took her to a dietitian, Who told us, with granddaughter sat their, that it was ok, and not to force her to eat thing she did not want. So after that, She would say the lady said I don't have to eat that. She has got better over the years, and now eats most things. When she got to the age she wanted to go out with her friends, My daughter used to say, you are going nowhere till you have eaten your meal. She soon ate her meal. So she could go out. Its all in the mind. This lady probably needs to see an hypnotist. |

I would say your dietitian was in the wrong job blue. That was a stupid thing to say in the presence of the child. |
