This is a letter that appeared in the Readers Letters page of my local rag........................

Sir
What planet are these Tories on? They must be totally mad trying to cap my benefits to just £26.000. They're looking at it all wrong. Everybody I have spoken to in my position agrees with me when I say that if those that are working can't get as much as me, their unions should be calling them out on strike to get them more money from their employers.

Surely that's what unions are for? Some of us can remember when our great man Tony first got in he gave the MP Frank Field a job in his cabinet and what was the first thing this upstart did? He only tried to get Tony and Gordon to do the very same thing as Cameron and his cronies are trying to do now. For folk like me it was a big sigh of relief when Tony quickly showed Field the door and even when his cards were well and truly marked, Field was still claiming he was a socialist.

Ed's absolutely right........... if my benefits are cut it will be the children that'll suffer. If I don't get what I'm entitled to, the first thing that will happen is this. I'll not be able to buy petrol for the quad bike Santa brought my wee boy last Christmas and it will not be easy either explaining to his wee sisters on their way to the primary school why I'll no be able to top up their mobile phones. Our weans are still too young yet to learn or understand about the system the same way we big folk do.

Here's another thing, this country is going mad coming up with their stupid laws. Did they never stop to consider that every day now when I go to the pub for a couple of pints wi' ma mates, that I've got to stand outside in all weathers to light my fag, did they not realise if I go down with pneumonia and have to go into hospital that it will be costing the National Health even more money to look after me.

On top of all that, I'm now being asked to pay for my blue badge. Its not just not fair is it, when I'm doing my best not to be a burden to the State. I even make sure my walking stick doesn't touch the ground too often because if the rubber tip wears out it will have to be replaced.

We need to make sure we get another Labour Government back in next time because that's the only party who will protect my benefits.

I. Nowurk
