McDonald's bosses in the Netherlands sacked a member of staff who gave a colleague a cheeseburger for the price of a plain hamburger. A court ruled that the fast food chain was too harsh in firing the worker in the town of Lemmer, saying that a written warning would have been sufficient, AFP reports. McDonald's claimed that the employee had broken company rules banning free gifts to colleagues, family or friends. In a written judgement, the district court in Leeuwarden said: "The dismissal was too severe a measure. It is just a slice of cheese." McDonald's was ordered to pay out €4,265 (£3,720) as the last five months of the employee's contract in addition to court costs. |

That was a bit harsh.................surely they could have given him a warning instead of just sacking him. The punishment didn't fit the crime. |
