Rowan's tense alertness radiated off of him and onto the doe, who was only brought out of her stiff trance by Rowan's nudge. She took a breath and listened carefully to his instructions, steeling her nerves as best she could and giving a whispered response. "Yes." Although she had only met this buck not long ago, she found she had no choice but to trust him, seeing as she had no idea what to do and was trying very hard not to panic. She looked from the bushes to Rowan with her striking gaze and said very softly, "I'll follow you."

It was a promise that, though she knew not at that point, would be kept for a while- beyond just running from a fox.

Rowan listened for a moment, trying to pinpoint the exact location of that embleer fox. He and Ceyhanne didn't have much time to move, so he whispered to her, "Now" and he jumped out of the cover. He run for several seconds and then hid behind a tree. He waited for Ceyhanne, hoping that fox had not seen or heard them.

Cayenne, still fearful and now blind to any sense of her own, could only follow Rowan, wincing at the touch of rain. After struggling to get through the muddy slope as silently as possible, she was able to reach the buck. Her eyes, first fixated on him, eventually turned away to the spot that they'd previously been hiding in. The fox, still keeping to the brush, could still not be seen, and Cayenne had to wonder if perhaps it was amused by their escape attempt, or if they had been granted cover by Prince Rainbow.

Rowan sat still, observing the spot he and Cayenne had just left. After a few tense moments, he saw a fox coming out of the hiding there, carrying the dead body of pheasant. Homba walked to the edge of stream and jumped over it. Soon, the predator was gone...

"It seems, that this fox caught one pheasant and scared the one we saw earlier," Rowan said with a tone of relief "We were lucky. If he didn't kill anything, then he would follow our trail."

Cayenne sat stiffly for a few moments after Rowan had spoken, before collapsing, relaxing all of the panic that she'd been holding in. "Great Frith!" she finally mumbled. "I'd have been tharn if that were me alone. How did you manage to keep from panicking?" She gathered herself back up as she spoke, and now turned to look him in the ever-calm eye.

Heh. I saw you added to the character list and I seriously considered being a jerk who creates a bunch of bucks to add on to yours, so that our list contains 5 bucks and a feminist doe. :lol But, nevertheless, I'll probably create some more rabbits for the list sometime later this week or so.

"Hmm...? I think I have to thank my Owsla training for that," Rowan answered still observing the spot where the fox had dissapeared "'Never let your fear master you', that's what they were repeating to me."

---
And how is that being a jerk? The more characters the merrier. Of course having only one doe could be some problem for our small society, but I could always make more female characters. ;)

Never let your fear master you, Cayenne thought back to herself. She felt a rush of shame at this, thinking to herself that fear had been her master all her life. Still, she was able to regain her composure before Rowan seemed to notice her expression. "Should we keep going?" she asked. "The fox could come back, and if that happens we may not be as lucky." She looked away, into the distance where she could see bits of blue sky trying to fight their way through the clouds. Though the rain was still coming down, she thought she could handle it, and it would do well to wash their scent away.

---
:P I can make some does. And not so much is that a jerk thing to do as just being pretty inconvenient.

"Yes. Lets get moving," Rowan said shortly, choosing to go along the stream. He wondered again what kind of warren Cayenne had come from and why had she decided to leave it? He asked her, hoping she wouldn't mind that question:

"So... How did you become a hlessi, Cayenne?"

Cayenne's expression became a bit defensive once again at the question, being brought back to memories of her own warren once again. She looked ahead for a few silent moments as they walked, before saying "It's a bit complicated. I don't like to think of myself as a hlessi as much as being... well, in between homes." She let that sit for a moment before picking it back up, feeling that Rowan had been searching for an answer.

"Where I came from, does weren't exactly the most... respected, see. If a buck told someone to do something, then, well... that doe would be expected to do it. It was terrible, to say in the least." She broke her vacant gaze and looked back to Rowan. "So I left." The memories proving painful, Cayenne quickly put in "What about you, Rowan? Heavy Owsla material living by his wits in the woods? Something there doesn't add up."

"Well... I didn't left my warren, because I had been treated badly like you was," Rowan answered honestly "I just... couldn't stand the life with no challenges at all. There was nothing happening in our warren most of the time, although we did raid the garden now and then. I finally decided to set out on my own. I didn't see a point in staying and besides my friends there are more than capable to take care of themselves. They will do fine without me."

He said the last words more to himself than to Cayenne. Even though, he was quite sure of what he said, deep down he was still worrying about all the friends and acquaintances he had left behind. What if something bad happens to his old home? What if the rabbits he had known will be harmed, because Rowan won't be there to help? He would feel better, if he had a guarantee that folks back in the warren were going to live as peacefully as before he had gone on this journey.

"Ah." Cayenne was still looking out vacantly, feeling a short sting as a realization came upon her: Rowan had left for the exact opposite reason she had. He'd wanted adventure and danger, while she only wanted safety. She didn't allow this thought to show on her face, and said, "I see."
Something overcame Rowan, she noticed, and she watched as the buck seemed to lose himself over to hidden worry. For a few moments, she did not want to let on that she had noticed, but finally she gave over and nudged him. "Something troubling you, Rowan?"

Rowan gazed at Cayenne briefly and shook his head to clear it from all the worries. "Nothing. It is nothing," he said. He tried to put on a joyful expression, in which he succeeded by half. He didn't want to talk about what was bothering him. Not right now at least. After these words, he just kept hopping forward in silence.

I will probably introduce my new characters soon. By the way... Do you want our journey to last long or should we find a proper place for our warren in near future? :)

Cayenne could tell that Rowan was hiding something, and she anxiously wished she could push for an answer, but kept a quiet air about her that she did not want to care as much as she really did. After all, this was the first other rabbit that she'd seen for days, and going about trying to force him to talk about something he didn't seem eager to talk about would be a bad way of handling this opportunity. "Alright."

She hopped on ahead of him, not wanting to see Rowan's half-hearted attempt at looking as though he were fine. "These... these other rabbits that you were saying we'd need. How do you propose we find them? I doubt there's a warren out there that would like us leeching out their rabbits."

---
It depends it we're looking to create an adventure story, or a struggle to handle a new home story. We also could consider where we want to introduce an antagonist, if we mean to have a villain character. :P I'd be happy to create one. Which I will do, soon. (Procrastination... procrastination...)

"You are right, Cayenne," Rowan said, thinking how hard it is going to be to find other rabbits. Even if they found a right place to start a news warren, they would still need to look around for new members and two of them could cover only so much ground. They would need a lot of luck. He growled in frustration, as he couldn't come up with quick solution to that problem.

"I wish we had some bird on our side that could scout the land for us," he said to the doe "Like the one from story of 'El-ahrairah and White Bird'."

-----

I would prefer to build and maintain a warren. I've already played in two adventure-type WSD RPs, so I had my share of never-ending journeys. :P

Cayenne followed alongside Rowan, quietly contemplating what he was saying. "It's not just the matter of starting a warren, but starting a good warren that will attract others- perhaps, a warren for rabbits like us, who've been held back all our lives. What we're looking for is opportunity, Rowan, and I'll bet you a fox's whiskers that we're not the only ones. Our only matter is finding those who'd be willing to join us." She nudged Rowan jokingly. "Which means I suppose we should keep our eyes peeled for white birds."

---
Fine by me! This is the first successful WSD roleplay I've been apart of. :) And I'm sure we'll have other members join us sooner or later, so I can imagine we'll only get better. Plus, I believe I've created a potential antagonist.

And the bit about El-ahrairah and the Great Bird: should I infer from this that we are past the time Hazel and all, as I assume this is the Kehaar bit retold and passed down? xD
