“I told you I was a student of Speaker of the Past,” Scoria said, ignoring Arkose’s snorting, “Our job is to learn Darkhaven history, which we pass on to this and the next generations. That’s a great responsibility and the Speaker always looks for smart rabbits, who are willing to make sure that nothing of our past will be forgotten. With that kind of responsibility comes protection from Darkhaven code of battle. If you’d like to join us, then I could talk with the Speaker in your name.”

---

Dandelion nodded in understanding, “I’d be anxious too, if I had Woundwort and his Owsla breathing down my neck every moment of my life. At least that’s what Bigwig told me about how things were in Efrafa. I’d never been there before the battle, but as much as I could see of it that night, it wasn’t a good place for rabbits and it is for the better this place is gone.”

He paused for a second and then added apologetically, “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t be talking like that about your home warren.”

---

“Bad luck, Gray,” Fiver said with a grin, revealing only two stones under his paws. He pushed them, along with others pebbles towards the other buck.

“As for who is Primrose’s mate, I won’t tell you. Instead, I’ll give you this hint: I’m now an uncle,” he answered with playful smile, “I’ll also give you four guesses, and the first three don’t count.”

Frostberry shook her head. "You hardly are - I never did consider Efrafa my home. Where was, I don't know - I just always knew it wasn't there." She glanced out across the downs, a curious look in her eyes. "What he said was true, though."

Slowly, a dark figure ran across the hills. She seemed rather furious. This was an Efrafan doe. And her name was Wolfsbane.

Though she carried the scent of an Efrafan, Wolfsbane had only been in the warren for a few short months. She, unlike some of the other slaves, had really just accepted life in Efrafa as it was. As much as she disliked it, she had no where else to go. She hated being a hlessi. And this is why she was upset. She was forced out here, on her own again. The doe, after all, had joined Woundwort's ranks willingly, eager to have more security. She'd heard the stories before that of course, but the doe's sense of adventure had withered all warnings into dust.

Still, although the rabbits of Watership Down had changed her life's course, she wasn't here for revenge; she never really loved Efrafa either. No, no... They left her with an option. The only reason she tried to never leave Efrafa: she had no other place to go, and went to find them because she hated being a hlessi. But if the Watership Down rabbits wanted to rescue two rabbits from Efrafa, how much could they complain about letting her in?

The adventurous, almost scruffy looking doe wandered the downs, a glimmer in her eye and a smirk on her face. The goal that she'd had since she was such a small kitten, to have a place in the Owsla. Back in her home warren, the officers wouldn't so much as cast an eye on her simply for being a doe, and a very undesirable one at that, and she had no desire to become one of the hulking officers of the Efrafa owsla, not that they'd let her in anyways. Maybe this time though...

The dark doe stopped, and stood up on her hind legs, looking all around. She searched for any rabbits anywhere, seeing none, she sighed and stopped to silflay briefly. She hadn't been in Efrafa long enough to become as nervous about doing as she's told like the others, in fact she was quite happy to become in charge of herself again. But how she longed to take orders for action... This was a doe with an adventurous spirit, loving the adrenaline rush of danger and thrill. When the others find her, Wolfsbane will be quite the handful. She caught a scent on the breeze, and began to follow it.

[[Hope this is ok! Sorry if it's a little weird. xD The rabbits are in for some trouble~]]

Blackberry glanced at Campion. She was reluctant to agree to Scoria's proposal without talking to the buck about it first.

"Scoria, may I speak to Campion about it first? I wouldn't want to make any decision without asking him."

((Wow, this Wolfsbane seems interesting!)) :)

“Of course. I’ll leave you and your mate alone, so you can discuss it with him,” Scoria said with understanding smile. She didn’t know for certain that Campion was Blackberry’s mate, but judging by their behavior it was very likely that they were. “I’ll be outside.”

She left the burrow and stopped a few hops from the entrance. As she waited for Blackberry and Campion to call her again, she began wondering whether Spartina had finished her own talk with Granite and what was its result. She was pretty sure Granite would give Campion more time to prepare himself for battle pit, but the question was: how much more? Would it be enough?

---

Holly was patrolling area around the Watership Down, looking for any rabbits from Efrafa that had fallen behind. Most of the survivors had arrived at the warren all safe and sound, but it didn’t rule out the possibility of there being a few stragglers. If there were any rabbits out there, who hadn’t been able to keep up with the main group and were wandering around in search of safe haven, then Holly was going to find them. Like Hazel said, since they had won the war, Efrafans were now their responsibility.

“It’s funny how some things has changed,” Holly thought, while sniffing the ground and looking for any tracks. “Back in Sandleford Warren, I wouldn’t consider an outskirter like him worthy of my attention, but now I’m here, carrying out his orders.”

While Hazel rarely phrased what he wanted you to do like he was giving you an order, it was very clear to anybody on the Down who was in charge. The old Holly wouldn’t be fine with Hazel as the Chief Rabbit. The new Holly though… Well… That one had left much of his pride in the ruins of Sandleford Warren. Naturally, during his early days on the high hills Holly had his doubts about Hazel’s leadership capacity, but the latter proved to be a good Chief no matter what new crisis he had to face and there had been many of those. That was the reason Holly obeyed him without hesitation, when Hazel had asked him to look for stray Efrafans…

And it seemed like he had found one. He could sense a fresh scent of Efrafan rabbit, a doe to be precise. He had followed the trail until he could see her wandering about.

“Hello there!” he greeted her, announcing his presence to her before he hopped closer. Not too close though. He was a stranger to her, so she would already be pretty wary of him. Probably. There was no need to make her even more nervous by futher shortening of distance between them.

Arkose followed Scoria, laying down in front of the opening. He had no words to share with her - after all, he had no control over what she did, nor did he really care, given what a soft type Blackberry seemed to be. He flicked an ear, and threw the pretty brown doe a semi-amused look. "I wonder how many among the students would have thought to save another. Not many around here have such compassion."

“Compassion?” Scoria asked, turning towards the buck. She was amused at the idea that she was helping Blackberry selflessly. “I think you’re giving me more credit than I deserve, Arkose. Naturally, I wouldn’t take any joy in watching her being taken against her will, but I’m aiding her mainly for my own benefit. It will be good for me to have another ally amongst the students.”

---

“Well, your home could be here now, you know,” Dandelion said to Frostberry. “Watership Down is a really nice place most of the time. Except when we have an invasion of sheep… or a weasel is paying us a visit… or we have a cave-in… Uhm… I’m not really helping my case, am I?” he asked with a chuckle.

Frostberry flicked an ear with a fond smile. "No, I suppose not, but rather sounds more interesting than Efrafa ever was. Nothing happened because nothing got by the wide patrols. I suppose home could quite possibly be here, but I can't really choose it - home finds you, after all."

Arkose shrugged. "S'pose you're probably right. No one does anything from goodwill here, ay?"

Campion strangely wasn't embarrassed at Scoria's presumption, instead turned to look at Blackberry seriously. 'You wanted to talk? She seems nice enough , but I'm afraid she has alterior motives.' He shrugged. 'Maybe that's only Efrafa coming out in me.' He took a bite of food, the traitorous voice in his head warning him to take nothing from them getting pushed into the shadows.

"She most likely does, but do we have a choice?" Blackberry asked, "The thing is...what about you? You'll probably end up in their battle pit."
The silver doe sighed. She didn't necessarily trust Scoria, but she would rather be a student than a warrior...but it would probably mean abandoning Campion, something she didn't want to do.

Gray looked surprised, then smiled warmly in response, "I think it's Hazel, figured he might get a doe someday." he said while shuffling the stones in his paws idly, almost seeming to make them disappear then reappear with some clever paw-work.
Then suddenly he stopped, one paw hiding the single stone he had under his paw while he hid the rest, "Your turn, and I noticed the odd room you have, like a big cave with roots from the celling, I haven't seen anything quite like it before, what is it called?" he asked curiously.

(I just remembered, I think we're playing bobstone wrong, haha, it's four stones with different colored sides and we have to guess which sides point up, like one white three black and such, let's just call it a simplified variant, eh?)

“I have yet to meet someone, who would do something for you without expecting you to return the favor sooner or later,” she said, cleaning her ears. When she made sure they were spotless, she looked to Arkose and continued their little conversation:

“By the way… I overheard one of our lower-rank warriors. He claimed that he is going to challenge you to single combat to get your job as prison guard,” Scoria had to bite her tongue to not point out how desperate the aforementioned warrior had to be to risk injury or even his life over this kind of job, “It looks like you will end up in the battle pit, Arkose.”

---

Dandelion nodded in agreement, “I know what you mean. When we first came here, I wasn’t very much enthusiastic about this place. Especially since we had to dig the whole warren…” He shivered slightly, as he remembered the time he and Hawkbit were stuck in poor excuse of a burrow while rain was pouring through all night. Good thing Hawkbit eventually pointed out they could hide in the burrow under beech tree or they would have soaked completely…

“Anyway… At the beginning, between one crisis and the next, I used to think about our old home, the Sandleford Warren. I missed it a lot, although there were a few things I didn’t like about it. Like this stupid “cowslips are for Owsla” rule... Watership Down has always been a nice place, but at the time it didn’t smell like home. Everything was new and strange, you know. It was like…” he paused, looking for a right words, “…sleeping in someone else’s burrow. It can be very comfortable and warm burrow, but you still feel you don’t really belong in it…”

He looked around, “Eventually, the Watership Down grew on me and…”, he said with a fond smile, “…I wouldn’t exchange it for any other warren.”

---

“Yes, he did. Perhaps I should find one myself someday. Uhm… Did I just say that out loud?” he asked rhetorically, with sheepish look. Now that was a weird idea. For as long as he could remember he had thought of finding mate as something others might do, but not something he had any interest in. Why had he just said he wished to get his own mate then? That was clearly out-of-character for him, right?

“Err… What was it that you asked, Gray?”

(I think it was about guessing the number of the stones or guessing one of their features like small/big or smooth/rough or bright/dark, so we might not be playing it totally wrong. :D )

Arkose chuckled. "Prison guard? Desperate, I'd say. I'm not one to step on heads at all, but I'm not going to let myself get stepped on either, so I won't be bowing out, that's for sure. Maybe I'll go somewhat easy on the poor beast," he said loftily, half-heartedly. Clearly, the tan buck wasn't worried.

Frostberry smiled. "I'm glad to hear that. I should sort of hope it grows on me, too," she added, sitting up for a moment to look around. She then sat back down and drew a paw over one of her ears.

„Just don’t go too easy on him, Arkose. It’s not a very exciting battle when the opponents don’t give it their all,” Scoria responded with the chuckle of her own. She looked back at the entrance to prison burrow. “It’s been somewhat quiet there for the past few moments. I think it’s time to check what Blackberry has to say.”

---

As they were sitting there, enjoying the warmth of the day, Dandelion smelled something. His nose picked up a sweet scent carried by a wind from down the slope. It took him a few seconds to recognize where exactly this new smell was coming from: the orchard.

“Tell me, Frostberry. Have you ever tasted apples?” he asked the former Efrafan doe with a smile.

Frostberry looked at him. "In Efrafa? Well... No. I've only ever had grasses and if I'm very lucky, a cowslip."

Arkose nodded. "Well, I'm not here to please anyone."
