That's terrible from a mechanical perspective, and even messy by the standards of accommodating for flavor.

If I were making a Spike card, transforming wouldn't be how I'd express the flavor. The mechanic takes up far too much of any story the card has to tell and there are better aspects of what makes Spike Spike. Consider:

UR, T, Exile an instant or sorcery card from your hand: target player may cast the exiled card this turn as though it were in their hand and it had flash.

This is a relatively clean way of conveying his most useful ability (in a magical duel, anyway)- to send scrolls and other messages instantly to friends and allies. It's also interesting and open-ended mechanically. Other than that, I don't think he needs anything other than a small bottom-heavy body and a lean-but-not-OP UR casting cost.

I need to make my icefall deck sometime because it's funny, but I don't think people will like it. MAYBE IF I USE MAD PROPHET TOO

I should make a deck using some of the green cards I have lying around.

My favorite color, but I never use it.

I don't want to use red though. I have a werewolf deck in the works for that.

Blue?

By "terrible from a mechanical perspective" I did not mean "terrible from a competitive perspective". Though that is true to.
Not every card has to be made to appeal to Spike, but every card should avoid ugly mechanical aesthetics.

Nice mechanical aesthetics were all I was going for with that ability.
Did I fail? Or do you think two mana is too cheap for the ability, even if Spike himself were more expensive to cast?
...Wait, which Spike are we talking about again?

Celestia, NMM, Cadence, Shining Armor, Discord, and Chrysalis if the pic works

I like Discord's mechanics.
