And it shall be great. 12 is certainly a number. For a frog. Edit #1: Art is the thing that binds the soul of flying birds to the shakles that make the wisemen sing praises to the heavens that bestow greatness upon those who would accept what little control they hold over the changing of the tides that ensure the working minds of the machines that make the world spin around the orb of hydrogen that we call home. Edit #2: Music is the art that vibrates through the air and makes all the things that feel like the makings of a human enter into the consciousness of the observer. Music itself holds no value, only the experience that it brings holds any relevance to the overarching wholeness of the individual's being and contributes to the general greatness of the existance that will later translate itself into music. Edit #3: Nothingness is the thing that is the absence of things existing within the region being called nothingness in which there are no things for the nothingness to iterate itself as because it lacks a self (e.g. —). You don't list off random musicians they haven't heard about, you tell them what artists they listen to that it sounds like. If it doesn't sound like anything they've listened to then there is no point in describing the music to them in the first place and genres are useless, might as well just show them the music. |

"If you tell 10 different people that you are forming a rock band they probably would all imagine 10 very different sounds." —Stalks I have a new opinion. Don't try to describe music to people, just show the dang stuff to them. >__> Edited by Celery Stalks, Jan 29 2012, 05:12 AM.

They will probably all not imagine something akin to Miles Davis, though. |

if i put water in a cardboard box and call it art, is it? art is a label, and there's no universal agreement as to what it even /means/, so it can't be objective. It's not like we'll later discover for certain what is actually art and what isn't. It's just a way of referring to certain things, and what things it refers to is going to change from person to person, which makes it subjective. |

Does this mean I should not bother actually trying to understand genre and keep just liking the songs that I like, which is what I do now? |
