Dedicated

Name: Juhon Baior
Nationality: Kandor
Age: 30

Appearance: Juhon is an attractive young man and does not try to hide it. He has dark brown hair that is cut at his shoulders, brown eyes and distinctive yet soft features. He has toned muscles and a lean appearance. He stands 6 feet (183 cm) tall.

Personality:

If you had to describe Juhon's personality with one word, it would be indecisiveness. He is interested in everything and nothing; he dabbles at whatever comes to his mind but does not get into a specific subject deep enough to become an expert. This applies to absolutely everything in his life and his decisions are usually accompanied by an indifferent shrug. That is why he is very open to outside influence and will do anything quite thoroughly if expressly told to. The Black Tower discipline and schedules suit him well and he feels content when he doesn't have to make decisions himself.

However, now that he is Dedicated, he no longer has the comfort of such rigid schedules but is more free to choose his areas of study. This is not an issue, because the Black Tower is not his only master. He was introduced to the Black Shen recently and he will obey Brietta Sedai, Asha'man Garrion (NPC) and Asha'man Erran (NPC) before anyone else. Their commands and suggestions regarding what he should focus on direct his 'autonomous' studies.

Juhon is laid-back and talkative and quite social. He is easily approached and is a good listener. But he has a rather short attention span and does not make good and loyal friends easily because of his initial indifference. His years as a Soldier have had their affect on his personality; he no longer initiates flirt and is more careful to join in even when he is flirted at. Overall, he is more careful with people now that he has something to hide.

Strenghts:
-Likeable, social, doesn't take life too seriously and thus is hardly ever let down or depressed
-Takes orders well and reacts well to discipline
-Is interested in a multitude of different subjects and skills; has the basic knowledge of a variety of subjects
-A good memory for faces and names

Weaknesses:
-Indifferent; may seem even cold
-Can't make his own decisions
-Takes orders from anyone, if they do not contradict the orders given by someone higher up in his hierarchy

One Power scores

Current strength: 61
Base strength: 52

(Juhon will become a Darkfriend during his years in the Black Tower)

History:

The second son of Doid and Zain Baior, a wealthy merchant couple, Juhon Baior was destined for a comfortable life in a supporting environment. The parents were quite busy but mostly stayed in Kandor so the children saw them every day, even though their initial upbringing was mostly in the hands of two nannies and three maids. A private tutor was assigned once Jeihan, the older brother, turned seven and Juhon four. They were encouraged in everything they did, even to the point that they hardly ever received punishments for doing something wrong. They were frequently send to play with the children of other Kandori merchants. They played with commoners and the children of the servants as well, but their parents frowned upon that.

Their parents were visibly proud of their sons. They donned them in richly embroidered breeches and coats and paraded them around the city now and again. They were widely known among the Kandori merchants as the next generation of the mighty Baior merchants. They were both taught as much of the trade as their age allowed them to understand. With their lessons complimenting the teachings of the private tutor, the boys did have every opportunity to become knowledgeable traders.

But unfortunately their parents and nannies' rather lenient raising had their toll on the boys. They knew what was expected of them but rebelled. Jeihan, at the age of fourteen, first announced that he was going to be a mighty soldier, then, at the age of fifteen, that he would marry a lady and become King of Kandor and later that same year that he would train to be a Warder instead. His fancies were fleeting but demanding; he worked on every goal as hard as he could for as long as it interested him. Juhon was not as impulsive; he dabbled at everything at the same time. He read about the cultures of other nations, studied history and mathematics, learned sword forms and trained with the soldiers and was taught their family trade.

Their fancies were tolerated until Jeihan joined a group of young men who intended to go to the Blight to fight Trollocks. Alarmed by the prospect of the sudden death of their eldest son, Doid and Zain had to adopt a stricter rule when it came to their sons. Jeihan, at the age of seventeen, was very deliberately and ultimately told that he would become a merchant and he should forget about his fleeting fancies. For another year he rebelled, but since his parents would not budge, he finally submitted to their decision and in another year worked closely and successfully with them.

Juhon was given more of a choice. With the knowledge that Jeihan would continue the trade, the sixteen-year-old could choose to do something else. He was decent with the swords, but lacked the passion of a soldier; he was pretty good at the customs and cultures of different nations, but did not intend to leave Kandor; he was interested in history, but had a poor memory for dates and details; he was good with numbers and money, but was a lousy haggler. All in all, he had plenty of skills, but he wasn't an expert on anything. Whatever profession he chose, he would be mediocre at best. So he took another year or two to hone different talents and generally to figure out what he wanted. Most of that time he spending either reading, lounging, playing dice or entertaining women.

He was a handsome young man, not too social or proud but laid-back and easy to approach. His status as the son of the wealthy merchant family was well-known so there were plenty of girls who thought he was a decent catch. Juhon's attitude to women was the same as his attitude to everything else; he dabbled with all of them at the same time. There were plenty of times when he found himself meeting a fair-haired young maiden in the morning, then a dark-haired vixen in the afternoon and finishing the day with a sparkle-eyed farmgirl. Of course, he found himself in a lot of trouble for this as well, but he was rather good at talking himself out of sticky situations, promising nothing to anyone. Nevertheless, his parents had to talk to four different couples in one year, each claiming that Juhon had promised to marry their daughter. After that Zain told Juhon that she would wed him to the next girl whose parents came to claim his alleged promises to their daughter. Juhon slowed down after that, making sure that the women he had fun with were not looking for their true love and husband but a bit of flirt and fun.

Another two years passed, and Juhon was no closer to a decision. His parents had tolerated his incertitude long enough. If he did not decide otherwise in another year, he would join Jeihan and become a merchant too. He might not become a master merchant, but he could become a decent treasurer. Juhon wasn't too happy about it, but he was left with no option. No profession particularly enticed him, but he had to do something. So a treasurer it was.

But not for long. A group of Asha'man were visiting Kandor and traded with the Baior family. The impulsive Jeihan asked to be tested if he could channel. One of the Asha'man agreed and tested the man. He could not channel, but the Asha'man extended the opportunity to Juhon as well. Amused and incredulous, he accepted the offer nonetheless. Juhon could learn to channel. The Asha'man said that he should leave for the Black Tower immediately. Juhon, rather overwhelmed with such a revelation, took a couple of days to think it through. 'Why not?' was his final decision. He left for the Black Tower the very next day, his family wishing him peace and the Light's favour with heavy hearts but full of pride.

Juhon found Soldier life very... gratifying. He was given certain clothes to wear, a certain room to live in and a schedule full of classes, chores and training. He did not need to make a single major decision himself. He just did as he was told, and everything was fine. He was told to do homework, so he did, and he did it well. He was told to practice this or that weave with a certain Dedicated, and he did. He was a social man, so he got friends easily. Everything was... fine.

Except for one thing. Women. He was still very loose with them. He knew that it was against the rules, but it was hard to break such a habit. So he flirted. And flirted. And... met Jetsuade Kaeth. Light, the woman was a pain in the neck! He tried to get away from her as soon as he realized that she was looking for the real deal, true love, a husband and a bunch of kids, but it was too late. The girl was very persistant, telling him how it was destiny, they would end up together, whether he liked it or not. Juhon told her so many times that he would never, ever marry her, or anyone else. He flirted freely whenever she was around. And she was around a lot. She obviously followed him around the best she could. Juhon did his best to avoid her.

He did stop flirting, eventually. At least, he no longer initiated it. Asha'man Remeian was not a strict Master of Soldiers, but he did get his message through after countless punishments. He was almost a model Soldier after that. He excelled especially during the war. Other Soldiers always complained how they wanted to be involved in the fighting or how bad the lessons Dedicated had to give now were. Juhon did not bother to complain; he was quite content. So he studied and trained dutifully and did not get in trouble.

Then the war was over and Jetsuade had finally stopped bothering her. He found out later that she had been killed during the war. Juhon shrugged. He did not care much. A lot of people died during the war, including several Asha'man that had taught him. He felt... nothing. It was a new discovery for him, but he did not consider his lack of emotion alarming. He never felt anything much, so why would he mourn the dead? He just... moved on, continued his studies, and waited to be raised.

The Wheel had other plans for him. The Shadow had taken an an interest in him, and soon he received an unusual task... And he joined the Shadow. He wasn't entirely happy with his decision, even though he was excited about the idea of learning secret weaves, knowing more than any Light-abiding Asha'man. But soon he was raised, and his Arches showed him the extent of what he would do just to follow Brietta Sedai's orders, and also that he did wish to follow the Shadow more than he wanted to turn back to the Light. And now he faces a new life as a Dedicated, as a member of the Shadow, and he is excited.
