There are several ways for a young man or woman to become a Gaidin or Gaidar. Those who come to the Towers to train become recruits, and when they are raised Youngling they are free to bond. Aes Sedai and Asha'man can also find bondmates on their travels around the world.

The first step for a trainee in the Hall of Valor is to become a recruit. Recruit is a junior member position and they are raised straight to Youngling, which is a senior member position; there is no mid-level as is with soldiers and novices. If you start as a recruit, you have to go through the whole raising process. The raising requirements are:

- Make decent RP posts, follow RP rules.
- Be active for 6 weeks total.
- Take a sparring class/weapons class/riding class.
- Teach a class or contribute to the site in some other way.
- Planned an RP plot and carried it out with one or more players.
- Get recommendations from two SM's.
- Have a complete and approved Bio.
- Complete Youngling Test

When raised to Youngling, you are a senior member both in character and out of character.

However, you can start as a full Youngling. In this case, you first have to provide the Admins with an RP sample, so we can make sure that your RP skills are sufficient for a senior member character. If the RP sample is acceptable, you can create your character. Then you must write your Youngling raising, and after that you are a senior member in character. Out of character you will remain a junior member until you have shown sufficient maturity and dedication to the site and the moderator team deems you ready for senior membership.

If an excisting senior member makes a Youngling as a secondary character, he or she does not have to write an RP sample and that character will be a senior member both IC and OOC.

Younglings do not have to be bonded, but that is their goal. To be bonded, you first have to find a suitable partner. Then you have to RP with your partner at least twice and then you both must PM an admin for permission. Once you have permission, you are free to RP your bonding. Then the Youngling becomes a Gaidin or Gaidar. See bonding rules for more details and To Break a Promise and form a bond for an example bonding RP.

Aes Sedai and Asha'man can bond those who have not been trained in the Towers as well. To create such a character, you first have to provide the Admins with an RP sample. If the RP sample is acceptable, you can create your character. Then you must write at least two RPs with your future bondmate, and to show that you can RP a fighting situation realistically, one of them has to involve a battle or a fight of some sort. Then you must ask the Admins for permission to bond, and once that is given, you can RP your bonding. After the bonding, your character will be a Gaidin or Gaidar, a senior member in character but a junior member out of character until the moderator team deems you ready for senior memberhsip.

If an excisting senior member makes such a Gaidin or Gaidar as a secondary character, he or she does not have to write an RP sample and that character will be a senior member both IC and OOC.
