Here at Fusions, we have our own channeling system. It is based on the system Cayana Alhi created for us, but it has been modified to be more true to the books. The IC explanation for the change is that after the war the Towers lost so many channelers that they were willing to lower the strength requirement for Asha'man/Aes Sedai so that they could fill their ranks more effectively. However, they still require the same amount of potential. That means that this new channeling system applies to characters that are raised after the War! Characters raised before the War have to obey the old system. The principle is the same, so you can follow the guidelines posted here, but the strength requirement for Aes Sedai was 61 and for Asha'man 71. So, let's begin. First, you have to choose your base strength. That will be the strength your character will have once he or she starts channeling, and that will determine how strong you will grow during your studies and years as Asha'man or Aes Sedai. Your total strenght will always be your base strength plus 50. So a strong female with a base strength of 42 will have a total strength of 92 once she has reached her full potential. Base strength: Female: 1-5 Very weak 6-10 Weak 11-15 Above weak 16-20 Below average 21-25 Average 26-30 Above average 31-35 Below strong 36-40 Strong 41-45 Very strong Male: 1-8 Very weak 9-16 Weak 17-24 Above weak 25-32 Below average 33-40 Average 41-48 Above average 49-56 Below strong 57-64 Strong 65-72 Very strong You can put it in your bio like this: (Current strenght if Wilder): Base strength: Age when started to channel: (Current age if Wilder): Your strength in the One Power has to be at least above weak (11 for women, 17 for men) to ever be raised to Aes Sedai or Asha'man, and if you are above weak, you have to work very hard to be raised. Those who are very weak or weak or above weak that do not work hard enough, will be trained until they can channel without hurting themselves or others and then sent to the Kin. After you have decided on your base strength, you have to determine your flow affinities. The Affinity is not strength and is not calculated from your strength. The Affinity is how well you can manipulate a flow not how much of it you can draw of the OP (your total strength tells you how much you can wield). You are to select levels between 1 and 10. Air: Fire: Earth: Water: Spirit: Remember that male channelers are traditionally stronger in Fire and Earth and female channelers in Air and Water. Your flow affinities will have an affect on what kind of weaves your character can channel well. For example, someone with an affinity of 10 at Spirit can weave strong fields fast, but if his or her affinity at Fire is just 2, he or she can hardly create a Fireball of noticable size. This will also reflect your Talents: your character is more likely to have Talents that require the flows your character's affinities are high at. Or, if you character has a Talent for Healing, but a low affinity at both Air and Spirit, he or she can only Heal as well as a character with a high affinity at Air and Spirit but no Talent for Healing. Once you begin channeling, either as a Wilder or as a Soldier or novice, your base strength will grow with one strength point per year. To be raised to Dedicated, your strength has to be at least 40. To be raised to novice, your strength has to be at least 25. That means that someone with an above average base strength could theoretically be raised to Dedicated or Accepted as soon as they enter the Tower, but that is not the case. Being a novice or a soldier is not about accumulating strength, it's about learning to channel as well as learning other subjects the Towers teach along with proper humility. So all characters have to remain a novice or a Soldier for at least four years. Those who are weaker in the One Power have to remain a novice or a Soldier until they reach the required minimum strength for Accepted or Dedicated. Now you have to add to your bio among your base strength your current strength. Current stregth: Base strength: Age when started to channel: Age when raised to Dedicated/Accepted: Current age: As an Accepted or Dedicated, your character will continue to grow in strength one point per year. To be raised to Asha'man, your strength has to be at least 64. To be raised to Aes Sedai, your strength has to be at least 43. But you have to remain an Accepted or Dedicated for at least 3 years before you can be raised to Aes Sedai or Asha'man for reasons stated above. So, all in all, a strong channeler can be raised to Aes Sedai or Asha'man in a minimum of seven years. Those women with the base strength of 35 or lower will have to take into account the minimum strength requirements as well, along with the men with the base strength of 56 or lower. Once you are an Aes Sedai or Asha'man, you must adjust your current strength and add the age when your character was raised. Current stregth: Base strength: Age when started to channel: Age when raised to Dedicated/Accepted: Age when raised to Asha'man/Aes Sedai: Current age: Now your character will gain one strength point per each year he or she spends channeling more or less actively. If your character spends years and years in study, without channeling, he or she will not gain strength during that time. Your total strength will be your base strength plus 50. If you need extra help, you can find the old channeling system here. |
