"Very nice Marian," said her mentor, smiling. "It looks like you'll be a Healer." A Healer... Marian couldn't help but think about that. Healing was a common Talent, Marian knew, but it was a very handy one, especially in their day and age. She wondered how good she would be at it. Maybe she could become one of the great Yellow sisters, prized for her Healing skill. Light, think how wonderful it would be if she could use all of the five powers to Heal? The thoughts whirled in her head, until she finally found one last negative one. She said, 'It looks like you'll be a Healer.' She didn't necessarily say that you would be one, or even that you'd have a strong Talent in it. Marian knew that many of the sisters could only Heal small scrapes and bruises. Marian almost sighed at that. She hoped she had at least enough Talent in Healing to heal a broken bone or two. Now that would be something to boast about... She couldn't wait to tell Kathera. Knowing her friend, she'd probably look it up in one of the books and come back with a multitude of facts on Healing for her. "Marian, we're going to go outside for the next portion of your training," said the Aes Sedai, standing up. Marian blinked in surprise. In all of her trainings, she'd never actually left the classroom to be taught. This would be interesting, and Marian wondered what her mentor had in store for her. She rose quickly after the Amyrlin Seat, taking her cloak and throwing it around her shoulders as her mentor began a different weave. Marian watched with curiousity as the Aes Sedai wove a gateway. It was interesting, and Marian wondered if she'd ever be able to weave such a thing. It could be very useful, just like Healing. She sighed. I can't have everything, she reminded herself kindly. Once Sapphira Sedai finished weaving the Gateway, Marian stepped through, knowing that her mentor would follow. She found herself out in the country, with recognizable buildings in the distance, including the Black Tower. The Gateway disappeared, and Marian could feel a bit of heat coming from a Fire weave. "Alright, embrace the Source, and get ahold of Earth," her mentor instructed. Marian embraced the Source quickly, welcoming the sweet flow of Saidar in her. It was certainly a nice feeling, especially with the chill she felt outside. Next, she took a hold on Earth, which was easy for her to do, since it seemed to be one of her stronger powers. Then, she listened as her mentor explained the first weave she would try. "I don't know of many Talents involving only Earth, but perhaps one of those I know will work. We'll try Delving first. Delving is used to find deposits of most anything- but mostly metal-beneath the surface of the earth. It is especially useful to the Aiel in the finding of water. It is also used to bring such deposits to the surface." Marian watched as the Aes Sedai weaved across the ground. She frowned as she watched. When Sapphira Sedai finished, Marian began trying it herself. It wasn't as difficult as it looked for Marian. She found this out as she began trying to weave across the ground. Marian couldn't help but note that the Earth weave went more quickly for her than it had for Sapphira Sedai, but Marian didn't think anything less of the Amyrlin for it. Marian was educated enough to understand such strengths in the power. The weave was not easy for Marian anyway, just easy enough to know that she could accomplish it. She finished it and waited for further instruction. |

Sapphira watched while Marian wove, it was clear that weaving Earth was easier for her mentee than it was for Sapphira. However, the weave did not appear to be simple for Marian, not as easy as a Talent would have been. She waited until Marian finished, and looked the weave over. It was quite good given Marian's never having done it before, but she had just seen the girl weave Healing, this was certainly not the same. "Alright," she said, suppressing a sigh, "let's try the next one." She had hoped that Delving would prove correct, for now she had only one more chance. "We'll try Earth Singing next, it's very much used like Delving, but is a bit more for controling the movements of the earth. Such as the creation of Tar Valon and Dragonmount so long ago." She let her last weave dissipate, and waited for Marian to do the same, before beginning again. She wove slowly, making sure to do as well as she could. This time she took a bit longer to finish the weave, but she was much more satisfied with the appearance of it. She finished the weave, and waited for Marian to begin. She hoped that this would turn out to be Marian's Talent, she did not particularly want to have to ask an Asha'man about uses of Earth. She would, if necessary, but she would rather not have to take the time to do so, she would rather just figure it out now. Sapphira waited for Marian to study the weave, and begin herself. She wondered about the girl's strength in Earth, it was quite an oddity. She wondered whether she should have had Marian try the most complex form of Healing before coming out here, if she had strength in Earth, perhaps that indicated an ability to use all five Elements in a Healing weave. Sapphira wanted to discover at least one more Talent before trying to feel out one already discovered. Once they got back to the Tower, Sapphira would have her try something a bit more complex. For now, though, she waited for Marian to begin her weave. She was interested in seeing where Marian's odd strength would display itself. For herself, Sapphira had never really thought much about Earth, at least, not by itself. It was her weakest of Powers, so she tended to use it only when necessary. But it certainly is involved in enough. While she may have some trouble weaving a complex weave with Earth by itself, Sapphira usually had little or no trouble when it was in combination with something else. There were so many weaves that involved all Five Powers, and she had no trouble with those, after all. She shook herself mentally and put her attention back onto Marian, that was why she was out here, after all, not to contemplate her own abilities with saidar. |

"Alright, let's try the next one," said her mentor. Marian nodded, releasing the weave she had just form, trying to memorize it before it faded away. She knew that someday, all of these weaves would come in handy. It would be a shame to not remember them all. "We'll try Earth Singing next, it's very much used like Delving, but is a bit more for controling the movements of the earth. Such as the creation of Tar Valon and Dragonmount so long ago." Marian blinked. She had heard about Earth Singing, but she didn't know that Tar Valon and Dragonmount had been created by the Talent. That was interesting. Maybe she'd read up more on it later. Pushing those thoughts away, she concentrated on the weave that Sapphira Sedai was forming. She noticed that the Aes Sedai was making it slower than Delving, but it was a well-formed weave, Marian figured. She didn't know much about judging Talents. Once Sapphira Sedai finished, she began to try it. Marian noticed this weave came quicker, much like the Healing weave had come. It was easy her to form one, even if it was not as good as her mentor's. She supposed that was because Sapphira Sedai had had much more practice at weaving than Marian had. She figured that it must be one of her Talents, like Healing had been. Nevertheless, she continued the weave, trying to form strands in a perfect replica of what her mentor had done. Even if it was her Talent, she was not going to be sloppy about it. Marian was surprised that she had found two of her Talents so quickly. With so many Talents out there, it was a wonder that they had found them both in such a short period of time... Well, the time they had been working hadn't exactly been brief, but it was short compared to the time it had taken Marian to even learn how to channel. She sighed and finished, looking to her mentor for any sort of approval or confirmation. Marian was pleased with the weave in front of her. It was halfway decent. |

Sapphira watched as Marian wove, noting the ease with which she did so. Delving had not appeared hard for her, but this weave looked like it came much more simply. When Marian was finished, she looked at Sapphira, who was studying her weave. "Well, it looks like we've found another Talent," she said with a smile for her mentee. She wondered whether the girl had another somewhere, most people had at least two, but few had more than three. She decided that rather than waste time trying to find something that was not there, she would let Marian discover her third Talent later, if it existed. She did not know of another Talent that involved Earth, so she thought it was time to go in. She thought for a moment before deciding that they had time for one last lesson, on their way in. "Marian, would you like to try the Gateway to get us back to the Tower?" she asked, wondering what the girl would say. She was curious to see whether or not Marian would be able to Travel, sometimes even the strongest of channelers could not Travel more than a very short distance, to a place he or she knew very well. Sapphira was thankful that she was not one of those, she knew that being able to Travel was quite a useful ability, and though it was not among Sapphira's Talents, she was sufficient in it most of the time. As for traveling out here, it had been a short distance and Sapphira had been over these plains enough that she knew it well enough to Travel here. Sapphira wondered what Marian was thinking, she knew that as Accepted, Sapphira would have jumped at the chance to try a Gateway. It was generally a weave Accepted were not allowed to try, but Sapphira thought that it would be alright, she was here to better her channeling skills after all. She waited for the girl to say yes or no, Sapphira hoped she would at least want to try, but she could understand if the girl was too tired, Marian had done quite a bit of channeling today, and Gateways took a lot of the Power. Creating the weave itself did not take so much, anyone could create the weave, making it work was the hard part. It was a strange feeling, Travelling, forcing two separate parts of the earth to become the same, and fold into each other. It was a concept she did not fully understand, and contemplating it gave her a headache on those times when she did. As it was, Sapphira tried not to think about it, Travelling was a useful tool, if one did not think too much about just now it worked. She embraced the Source and took ahold of the knot she had made in her weave of fire. It had done its job, keeping the air warm enough Marian, but now it was no longer needed. She untied the knot she made, and let the weave go, watching it fade into the residues always left behind from a weave not untied. |

"Well, it looks like we've found another Talent," said Sapphira Sedai with a smile. Marian smiled back, happy to have found another one. She knew that many Aes Sedai and Asha'man had three Talents, but Marian was happy with two. Healing opened up many opportunites, and Earth Singing certainly wasn't a bad thing. It was exciting to think about her future now, with a little more detail as to what she could expect. She knew that Seshi would have been proud, had she had been there to see Marian. Marian could remember when she left her home in Andor. Seshi had been upset that she was leaving, considering. Marian had missed Seshi horribly, and the woman had passed in the time Marian had been at the Tower. She still missed her old maid, but things had changed. Marian knew that she had changed too. She had grown up into a young woman who was becoming Aes Sedai. No longer was she Marian Skylas, daughter of the Skylas nobles. She was instead just Marian, Accepted to the White Tower. I will be Aes Sedai... The thought flashed across her mind, a reminder of her raising. "Marian, would you like to try the Gateway to get us back to the Tower?" asked her mentor. Marian blinked in surprise, glancing at the Amyrlin Seat to see if she was joking. Accepted were not usually allowed to weave Gateways, not unless it was one of their Talents... Marian was in fact quite shocked that her mentor would even suggest it. They had found two of her Talents, and it was not likely that Traveling would be her third. What a burst of luck that would be, Marian thought to herself, almost shaking her head. She remembered watching Sapphira Sedai weave one earlier. It had looked to be a complex weave, and Marian knew from her recent studies that it had been one recovered from the Age of the Legends. Not everyone could Travel well, and she also knew that it took quite a bit of channeling. Marian stopped to notice then that she was a bit fatigued from the days worth of finding Talents, but Light, how could she pass up an opportunity like this? Marian knew very well that Kathera would jump all over her if she didn't try. "I could try," Marian replied, smiling slightly. Light, if she could do it... Marian took a deep breath, thinking back to when Sapphira Sedai had weaved one for them to reach the point they were at outside. She remembered the weave, and she had seen it before, though not at such a close distance. She thought that she might be able to recreat it, even if it wasn't perfect. Marian figured that it was worth a shot. She embraced Saidar, letting it course through her veins, and then she began the weave. It was difficult for Marian to do, and it certainly was taking some time. It was hard to weave so intricately, especially after the channeling Marian had already done that day. Nevertheless, she didn't allow herself to lose concentration. Sighing, she focused harder... Amazingly, after a long period of time, she did finish the Gateway. Marian couldn't help but sigh with relief -- she was exhausted. It was an awful, crud sort of thing, with indefinite edges. It was hardly wide enough for either one of them to pass through, but Marian could see the White Tower through it. Marian figured that eventually, when she became Aes Sedai, she could weave a better one, learn to make proper Gateways. She smiled at her mentor. "I don't think we'll fit through that one," she said, wiping off her brow. |

Sapphira did not fail to note the look of surprise on her mentee's face when asked to weave the Gateway. Marian certainly knew that it was not something Accepted were usually allowed to do. She waited while Marian thought, and after a few moments the girl said that she would try. Doubtless she was tired, which would make weaving this Gateway much more difficult, but perhaps it would end up being a Talent, one could never tell. Sapphira felt Marian embrace the Source, and watched her weave. She wove slowly, carefully, and Sapphira realized just how tired she must be. It was quite clear as soon as she started that this would not be a Talent, even taking her fatigue into concideration. After several minutes, Marian managed to prodcue an opening in the air, though a small, indefinate one. Well, if she could do so much this tired, and without seeing the weave immediately before doing it, perhaps she would not be a bad Traveller, but it would not be a Talent. Thankfully, the girl was not upset, she simply smiled and said that they would likely not fit through that. Sapphira nodded, with a smile in return, "It was not bad for a first try." She embraced saidar once more, revelling in the feel of it flowing through her veins. Sapphira realized that she had done quite a bit of difficult channeling today as well. She had not noticed how tired she was, but now that she began channeling, it set in. Sapphira took a breath, and wove the Gateway to the Tower's Travelling grounds. It was not nearly as easy as the one from before was, and was noticeably smaller, but still more than large enough for the both of them to fit through. Sapphira stepped back to let Marian through, she had never liked walking through her own Gateways first, though she was unsure why. Once she stepped through back to the Tower as well, she let the Gateway go, and her hold on the Source as well. She walked quickly off of the Traveling grounds, it was there to be a place that Aes Sedai and Asha'man could Travel to without worry of cutting someone in half, and Sapphira standing there would not be helpful. Once they were safely out of the roped section of the grounds, she turned to Marian. "I think we've done quite enough for the day. We've both done our fair share of channeling, so we'll pick up again tomorrow," she said with a smile. True, they were finishing a bit early today, but she thought Marian had earned a little extra free time. She had discovered both of her Talents in one day, after all, that was certainly something to boost the girl's ego. |

Marian went through the Gateway that Sapphira Sedai weaved, noting the differences between her weave and the Aes Sedai's. She would do better next time, though it was likely that next time would be a long way away. She smiled at her mentor again. "I think we've done quite enough for the day. We've both done our fair share of channeling, so we'll pick up again tomorrow," said her mentor. She nodded in agreement. She gave a curtsy and figured that it was her dismissal. ((OOC: Sorry -- very short. Anyway, now what? ;))) |
