Asha'man al'Dieb Cha, Lost during the War

Edeleas's eyelids were drooping very fast as he made his way through the Soldier and Dedicated barracks, a stack of five books in his aching arms. The day had been entirely stressful, and he was beginning to wonder how in the Light was he surviving day after day of channeling, sword practice and Aiel combat. Burn me, my eyelids are growing heavy, he thought as he bowed to a broken-nosed Dedicated. But I don't want to sleep in the hallway...I don't...I don't - He gave a jolt as another Dedicated pushed him back onto his feet. Mumbling an apology and a thanks, Edeleas bowed. The rosy-cheeked Dedicated smiled kindly. "Do you want me to escort you back to your rooms?" he asked. "You look like you can no longer stand. Come here," Edeleas gave a grateful sigh as the Dedicated assisted him. He must have been falling asleep on his own feet. He knew he shouldn't be showing weakness, but the Light burn him to the Pit of Doom, he was so sleepy! When they arrived at the door, Edeleas bowed once more. "Thank you so much, Dedicated." he said. "Thank you." The Dedicated smiled. "It is nothing. Now you go get some nice sleep before your next class. And I will also recommend some sourberries. They are effective lest you start feeling dozy in inappropriate times. Good bye." Edeleas opened the door and entered, the familiar warm comfort of the room settling in on him. There were two simple beds in the room, the one at the right side near the window was his, and the other was...vacant. There were also two closets here, again the other was unused. There was another door that led to the washroom. Kicking off his boots, Edeleas gave a huge yawn. He placed his books on his table and removed his glasses. He lay down and snuggled comfortably, facing the wall. He was just starting to sleep, when the door banged open. Edeleas quickly sat up and grabbed hold of saidin, preparing nasty traps of Fire and Earth. But to his great surprise, the male half of the True Source also filled the man at the doorway. |

The day had been utmost weird, and utmost long for Nhadnay; and actually the young man wondered how he’d managed to stay upstraight at the moment. Sure there had been a night since he’d got up the last time at his misstress’ mansion, but that night he’d spend in that strange dreamworld, and he never seemed to get any sleep there. It had been all so strange… so… surreal… He had woken up there; brought his mistress’ food and then accompanied her to the docks for trading. The atha’an Miere with whom she had been bargaining had been so strange. Just an ordenairy trader… but it had been strange… the feeling of an echo or something within him… Nhadnay had been confused all day… and had displeased his mistress. He felt shame and pain; as well as the lashes of the whip and the feeling of hunger as the Ayyadwoman healed him as he tried not to flinch over having an Ayyad close. The night had been to weird to imagine. He seemingly had been shifting from dream toreality…. Or maybe the world-that-is-not was acting strange, Nhadnay could not tell; but as he finally had the feeling that his ‘dream’ was over, and that dawn had broke; he had been in a completely strange city, looking at a huge stone building, surounded by foreigners looking at him strangely. Then the two other men had been there; dressed –unlike the others- completley in black save for some color at their cuffs. They had taken him someplace and dragged him around there, making him sit down to listen to who-ever and doing whatever. He himself was now clad completely in black as well –even without the colors at his cuffs-. It was a strange place. All the men wore black, save some who seemed to be guards, though some of the men in black seemed to move with grace that was equal to theirs, or almost equal at least. But the women. There seemed to be 4 types of women, one part of them; the smallest, wore the clothes of peasants… or guards even, wearing a sword on their hip. But just the thought of women guarding someone was off course ridiculous; so mayhaps they were slaves as well carrying their masters swords; after all, men seemed to prefer female slaves. Then there was a group who was dressed in white; or white with a bit of color at the sleeves and hemn; and he did not know what to think of them… maybethey were the children… but, by the birds, there were a lot of them! And the last group, were obviously the mistresses; for they walked with the grace and poise of people in command, and were dressed like it too. The place was just strange. And then there had been that…. Thing… he had been put in. A roomfilled with people in either white or red and one of the high Ladies up front telling them about Talents. He had hardly understood anything aboutwhat she spoke; but therre was one thing that had drawn his attention and about which he had been pondering; she had said something about strange dreams… and what she’d told the people before her had sounded so familiar to Nhadnay that he just had been glued to her words. As the woman had been trough with her story, the guy besides him took himoff to another black guy. He still couldn’t figure out whether it had been a slave too now, since there were an awfull lot of them… but they did bow, strangely, to the others who looked like them though older. And once more Nhadnay had been stuck listening to some strange blond man –there were quite a few blond men here…. Something Nhadnay had never seen before- who tried to make him talk and tried to get his name. If they had taken him here to be their slave as well, then why would they bother with finding out his name? Why not give a new one… It all confused Nhadnay, and the man had obviously seen his weariness and had called for someone else to take Nhadnay ‘to his room’ The servant who did this however seemed to be in a perticularly bad mood and as he opened –though it was more like threw open- a door, he started nearly yelling, most displeased. “Who-ever told you that Soldiers are allowed to channel unguided!?” What Nhadnay not knew, was that the asha’man besides him had threwn a shield over the young man whom he recognised from besides him while the Lady had been telling stories. “First thing tomorrow you’ll go to the master of students for your punishment. Here; your new roomie.” With that he pushed Nhadnay quite roughly inside and turned on his heels mumbling something about “pesky soldiers” as he let go of the shield and stalked of; leaving Nhadnay and Edeleas alone in their room. Nhadnay just looked around. A room with another? Who’d do a thing like that? By the birds! These people are strange! |

"O...kay." said Edeleas slowly as he groped for his glasses and wore it, so that his vision focused. He sat up, shaking his head. The shielding was strong; it almost knocked him flat. And then afterward he looked up at the weird man standing before him, all covered with tattooes. "You're my new roommate? Please come in. The other bed's vacant since I first came here." He stood up, quite easily, now that sleep was shaken off him. He pushed his glasses and peered up at the man's face. "You don't have things?" Edeleas asked. "I can help you unpack and settle down, if you'd let me. I am Edeleas al'Kuar, by the way, a Soldier like you, a trainee of the Black Tower. Speaking and telling me your name instead of gaping at me will be highly appreciated." He fell silent, letting his words sink in. But still, the man was silent, looking at him as if he were something alien, something quite new. Edeleas sighed deeply. What a strange person... |

"You're my new roommate? Please come in. The other bed's vacant since I first came here." Nhadnay walked in, closing the door behind him before walking over tothe other bed in the room. The other guy now stood up, pushed his seeingglasses and peered up at the man's face. if they allow servants or slaves to have those kinds of expensive things... how wealthy must they be? Nhadnay though and wondered why the lad would have seeingglasses. "You don't have things?" Edeleas asked. "I can help you unpack and settle down, if you'd let me. I am Edeleas al'Kuar, by the way, a Soldier like you, a trainee of the Black Tower. Speaking and telling me your name instead of gaping at me will be highly appreciated." By the birds they talk much. The other soldier had talked about being a soldier and a black tower; and apparently Nhadnay was like him. So I am a soldier of the black tower... and what does that mean? will I be put trough more of that annoying fightingtraining? and why does everyone wants to know my name? Not really sure as how to react, Nhadnay just looked at his feet for a moment and then pulled up the little sack that he'd been given which held his belongings, two out of his three belongings at least. and then he nodded to the lad, insecurity obvious on his face. "O...kay" the young man said again and walked to a closet to open it as Nhadnay showed him the two belongings in his bag; the bright yellow wide breeches and the skyblue sash he had worn with them when he arrived here. The only other thing he had from his homeland was the pouch filled with herbs that once hung at his sash and now bungled on his black belt. with a hesitant step Nhadnay went to the closet and put his breeches down orderly and then placed his sash on top of it. he then looked back at the other young man. He was younger then him; a few years at least... young enough to still be in the second village; and his short yellowish hair only just covered his ears. Nhadnay found the lad most intrueging; just such yellowish hair; lightgreen eyes and light complexion... But then again, a lot of people here looked really pale. |

Why under the Pit of Doom doesn't he talk? Edeleas thought pensively as Nhadnay silently went to unpack his own clothes and set them in his new closet. And he only has a couple of things with him...where under the Light did he come from? Did they starve him back there? How will I 'get to know him better' if he doesn't want to speak? After unpacking, Nhadnay looked at him, clearly expecting he would tell him what to do. Edeleas very nearly tore his hair in frustration. He gave an irritable jerk as he pushed his glasses up again; the damn things always slid down his nose for some reason. "Well...if you're tired you can get to sleep," he said, gesturing to the vacant bed. "You can channel, right? Well, of course that was obvious...pardon me. Since when have you been touching the True Source? That would be an interesting story...If you could tell me." Again, silence was the only one who replied to Edeleas' queries. He started tapping his heeled boots onto the floor, making odd clacking sounds as he went. Fists on his hips, Edeleas tried to calm down, to tell himself that no, his roommate was older, and he had to respect that, but still... Blood and bloody flaming ashes, does he think I WILL eat him alive if he speaks?! Edeleas thought incredulously. I'd go crazy if he doesn't speak! |

"Well...if you're tired you can get to sleep," the young man said, gesturing to the vacant bed. "You can channel, right? Well, of course that was obvious...pardon me. Since when have you been touching the True Source? That would be an interesting story...If you could tell me." Nhadnay just looked at his new roommate; what in the name of the birds and the sh'Botay he was talking about. There it is again! that channeling! the blond man earlyer; calling himself Seeker had been talking about it as well! and that Lady who'd been telling her story had done the same... WHAT IS IT? and if I am obviously supposed to be able to do it; then how do I do it? how do I let these weird people know I don't understand anything about them. As Nhadnay shyly turned his head away to look at his feet in shame, he briefly wondered whether it had somethingto do with the strange dreams he could have, or how he'd turned up here; or maybe it had something to do with the weird door of light to this place that the first two men in black had made. He softly pulled up his head as the other lad let out an agitated sigh, and on Nhadnays face appeared an appology followed by another casting down of his eyes because he was unable to answer. Maybe it'd help if I got him to talk? As he lifted his eyes to meet Edeleas' he took in a breather and then let his features look confused, opening his hands in front of him, showing the other man his inability and shame of not answering. from that pose he moved into another one, as he put forward one of his hands, gesturing towards edeleas, his eyes looked questioning and asked the boy to speak more. |

Edeleas frowned pensively at Nhadnay. Wait...don't tell me he doesn't know he can channel? Or for that matter...why is he here in the Black Tower? Blood and bloody ashes, do I have to explain EVERYTHING to him?! "I see you have no idea why you're here," Edeleas began. He stepped forward and touched Nhadnay by the arm, and dragged him onto the bed and made him sit down. "Sit down and allow me to talk. You listen well." Nhadnay looked up at him, waiting for him to speak. Edeleas shifted uncomfortably on his feet. The man was older; and he wasn't used to explaining things to people older than him like teaching five-year-olds. But he sighed and cleared his throat. "When somebody says you can channel, that means you can touch the True Source and use the One Power to...do wonders. Wonders like dreamwalking, making weapons, making the earth rumble beneath your feet...things like that. "Men who can channel are generally brought here in Tar Valon, here in the Black Tower, so they can be educated properly on how to control their talent and avoid hurting themselves and others. That's why you're here, just like me, unless you are just a weird tattooed person seeking help or sanctuary. "Soon enough, you'll be wearing the Asha'man black" -Edeleas gestured at his clothing- "and start your training. So there; I think I've explained the basics. Do you have further questions?" He waited expectantly, still looking at Nhadnay. Something told him he only further confused the other man. |

Nhadnay listened intently to what the other guy said; and from somewhere withing him a bad feeling grew within him. One Power... wonders... it just made him think of the Ayyad women... they could do strange things as well, and those words sounded as if he'd heard them before... any questions?Edeleas asked;and Nhadnay nodded slowly, a pensative look on his face. By the birds this all was so difficult; Nhadnay never had any questions, he just listened to the simple orders and explanations and followed them... but this.... for a moment he touched his forehead in thought, something he always did and then his head shot up and he started fidgetting at the strange.... footwear. Nhadnay had always lived in a warm climate and walked barefoot, or in the worst dcase in a loose covering sandal, but these... things reached nearly till his knees! So with some trouble he unlaced the things, most likely with a curious look from his roomie while doing so. When he finally had both of his feet out of the boots he took of the socks, another weird thing; but then again, his feet still felt cold here. When he'd arrived in the portcity earlyer today he'd been walking barefoot in the mud, his silken breeches not ruined by the icky substance only because he'd been hiking them all the while. Now his feet were clean though, save for a line of dirt from the sock where he had cut his foot earlyer. with an unsure look in his eyes he glanced to his roomie who was eyeing him suspicious. with a few gestures Nhadnay motioned for the cut in his foot and then glided hhis hand over it and showed the same place on his other foot, which hadn't been harmed to show the unwounded skin. the younger man frowned for a moment but then his face lit up "do you mean if Healing can be done with saidin as well" a quick nod was gotten in reply "Yes, it's one of the common uses of the One Power." Edeleas seemed reliefed and Nhadnays face just paled a bit as his hand slid over his back, where only last eve his whipwounds had been Healed by an ayyad woman. I am like them?.... oooooh birds help me! |

But then again, Nhadnay did not ask any questions. He sat down on his new bed and started fumbling with his boots. Folding his arms across his chest, Edeleas watched him thoughtfully. Burn me...did he grow up somewhere with no shoes? He thought in shock. But then...he IS so strange! I wonder if I can make him speak and make a friend out of him... He watched, well until Nhadnay took off his socks and gestured toward the cuts on his feet. The older man looked distressed as he gestured. Edeleas felt his face light up in relief; he was understanding him! He wants me to Heal him, Edeleas thought. He unfolded his arms and started flexing the fingers of his right hand. "Do you mean if Healing can be done with saidin as well? Yes, it's one of the common uses of the One Power." He touched the male half of the True Source and saw Nhadnay's eyes go round. He knelt and took his roommates feet, and started weaving the feeble flows of his kind of Healing. Nhadnay's legs gave a twitch as the cuts started to vanish. "There, good as new." Edeleas grinned as he released saidin and straightened up. "I'm not good at Healing; it was good your cuts were not that serious or else I couldn't have closed them properly...but they're all right now." |

Resolute strode through the halls of the Black Tower, looking for his allocated bunk. Finding the room, he enterd, and to his surprise he found two other men in there, one of whom was channeling. Suddenly the other man jerked, and cuts dissapered form the second man's legs. Resolute arched an eye brow at the two of the, Stepping in, He slung his pack over onto one of the apparently open bunks, it was a top bunk he noted. Then turning to the other two men he offered his hand, "Hello boys" he said cheerfully, I am Resolute pleasure to meet you all," Glancing aorund the room, he noted their somewhat sparse living conditins. "Well, at least we had beds." He said dryly. Sitting himself on top of his bed, he glanced at the the other two, "Am I interupting something?" Sighing he kicked off his boots, he had been on hius feet all day except for a bit when he was in the Talents class, come to think of it he thought he might have seen both of these men in that class. "Are you taking the Talent's class too?" |

Edeleas yelped and jumped as if he had been electrocuted when the door opened, and another man entered. Nhadnay swung his head and looked around curiously, but he did not speak. Nervously, Edeleas stood and pushed his slipping glasses on his nose. Burn me, I thought it was an Asha'man, or -! he thought with relief. Soldiers weren't allowed to channle unguided, but he had always violated that rule, and it got him often into the Master of Soldier's office. He was surprised the M'Hael hadn't started calling for his head yet. The unexpected roommate swung his satchel on the open bunk above Edeleas's own and turned to them, offering his hand. "Hello boys" he said cheerfully, I am Resolute pleasure to meet you all," Edeleas smiled and yet again, gave another irritable push to his glasses. He took Resolute's hand and shook it warmly. "I'm Edeleas. And this one is...erm...is..." He turned to Nhadnay, who yet again gave another jerk. He did not speak. "Erm." Edeleas blinked. "He doesn't speak..." Glancing aorund the room, Resolute noted their somewhat sparse living conditins. "Well, at least we had beds." He said dryly. Edeleas nodded. "It's the best we've got...as long as we're training." "Am I interupting something?" Resolute asked as he climbed onto his bed. "No!" Edeleas answered too quickly. "Our roomie here just asked for a little Healing, that was all. He was injured." Resolute sighed and started taking off his boots. Then again he shot Edeleas and Nhadnay a quizzical look. "Are you taking the Talent's class too?" Edeleas nodded, but Nhadnay remained still as a stone. |
