What Happens When You Turn People Blue; (Mistress of Novice's office)

Kathera walked down the hall to Cayanna's study, stride purposfull. She had turned some poor recruits blue, after all. A novice could pretty much garantee that to get you a few stripes. Wincing a little at the thought, the novice stopped in front of the Mistress of the Novice's door. Knocking quietly, Kathera waited for her mentor. Really, this was the price for angering people with swords. Literally. It was probably better to go by herself than to allow herself to be prodded in the back, being forced to go accept punishment. The unhappy blue recruit had shown her that, and she lost most of her talent with her fists as she had no reason to use it now. Wishing that she had never got in the position to actually show up for a beating, Kathera stood patiently, waiting.

Yes, patience was a good thing. It would take patience to get to the time when she could become Accepted. But she would, oh, she would. Even if it took her till she was eighty, like she joked with Marian, Kathera knew she would do it. Well, that was what determination did to you. Perhaps Cayanna would be a little nicer on her, as she came by her own means, and wasn't ordered or escorted. Not that probable, Kathera told herself, but maybe. Perhaps. Still waiting, the novice considered knocking again, but decided against it. Her mentor was in there, Kathera could see the silohette of her body through the glass. Really, the Mistress of the Novices look rather busy.

Hoping that she wasn't deylaying the Aes Sedai, Kathera leaned against the wall by the door. If she was going to have to stand here all day, she wanted some suport. Of course, there was a chance that the door would hit her in the face when Cayanna opened it, if it would ever open. Deciding against getting her face smashed in, the red haired novice resumed her standing position in front of the door. This was what happened when you turn people blue Kathera thought, in nervious amusement. Perhaps some jokes would make her feel better. Why did the chicken cross the road? No, not working in the least. Sighing to herself, the novice stared down at her shoes, wondering if the door would ever open.

((OOC: I can truly say that I have never heard of any glass doors in WoT and even more I can say that Cayanas door does not have a window, on top of that the door isn't lined up with the length of her office so she wouldn't be visible even if there was a glass ;) but nm, I'll write you a description so you know a little bit better. (Note: the oval room wasn't originally my idea :P)))

Her office was lighter then usual. The oval room she had been given to have as an office wasn't only lit up at the high part of the room where her desk stood but also in the middle of the floor. Something that wasn't common in her room was that to the side the silhouette of two chairs and a table could be seen, but the darkness marked them as not to be used by anyone walking in. The only window in the room was to Cayanas left, it was closed but the drapes was pulled aside to allow the sunlight to come in. The steps down to the main floor, making a clear boundary between her and who ever was visiting, where neatly cleaned except to the far right wall where a basket stood with a blanket over it. The door behind Cayana to the right was also closed and as a knock was sounded on the door to the furthest away Cayana only said loudly to be heard outside. "Enter!" She didn't look up right away though but sat and finished writing down the last sentence as well as signing the letter or what ever it was she was writing on.

Once finished she looked up. As she saw Kathera looking nervous Cayana arched an eyebrow and leaned back. "Yes child?" She said, encouraging the girl to speak her errand. By the look of the girl she was here because of a rule breaking of some kind. Dealing with these novices on a daily basis she wasn't surprised but only waited to listen to the girls story, explanations and excuses.

((OOC: sorry that it's so short. :/ ))

(ooc: thanks for the description...)

Kathera glanced down at her shoes as Cayana Sedai asked her why she was here. Moving her eyes to her clasped hands, she glanced up into her menotrs eyes, and spoke softly, unable to get it out in her usual voice. "Coming for punishment, as I turned some recruits blue by painting their uniform... I figured it would be better if I went on my own accord, as those recruits were a bit... hostile." Hoping she had made her vist to the Misstress of the Novices clear, Kathera took her eyes from Cayana's face to the floor. This probably wasn't going to be pleasant. Really, all visits to someone that knows you've done something 'unexceptable' were rather unpleasant. Well, she had broken the rules.

Staring unblinkingly at her rather ugly shoes, Kathera tried to cheer herself up by imagining a banded hem on her dress. No, she knew it was imagining. After this, they would probably put her out of the tower once she learned to control the one power, anyway. No one in their right minds would let her become Accepted and then Aes Sedai. Choking back a sob at the thought, Kathera couldn't help but think longingly of a brown shawl... And a Great Serpent ring on her right hand. Well, those objects where probably things she would never get. It was said the White Tower punished pranksters severly. Why did I get it in my head to do a prank, anyway? she though misrably, hoping that Cayana Sedai hadn't noticed her tear welling eyes. I may never become Aes Sedai now... Now staring at her white knuckles, the novice bit back tears.

((OOC. uhm I don't know if Kathera will 'betray' her friends or not, if she will name them or say she wasn't alone then [a] happens otherwise , ok? ))

"Coming for punishment, as I turned some recruits blue by painting their uniform... I figured it would be better if I went on my own accord, as those recruits were a bit... hostile." The girl spoke. Cayana just looked at the girl. She didn't say anything more she just stared in the direction of the floor and her knuckled grew whiter by the second. Either she was angry or she was holding back tears. "Where you alone?" Cayana asked. It did not sound like she had been sent, but that she had gotten scared with how the recruits had acted. Cayana did expect to get a report on it pretty soon since it was the novices who handled all of the laundry this week. Kathera answered her and Cayana went on. "Did someone send you here?" The girl had not excused her actions, something that was very common among the novices. No, this girl was accepting her punishment the way she accepted what Cayana said in class. After receiving the second answer Cayana said. "Fine, you will be getting 4 hours of kitchen duties extra a day."

[a] "Now get going I don't have all day." She said and gestured for the girl to leave. She did not say a time limit for a reason. She wanted to know if the girl was lying at any point and the only way to do that was to go ask or wait for the reports. "Oh and while you're at it, send your friends over, will you?" Cayanas look was a bit dangerous as she said the last. The girl had done a 'good' thing in coming on her own. To send her friends here wouldn't be popular.

"Now get going I don't have all day." She said and gestured for the girl to leave. She did not say a time limit for a reason. She wanted to know if the girl was lying at any point and the only way to do that was to go ask or wait for the reports.

(ooc: Do I need to roleplay the kitchen duty? And can I just message my partners in crime about it, or do I ahve to tell them in character?)

Kathera tried to hide her open staring as Cayana basicly shoed her out of the office. Four hours of kitchen duty wasn't going to be that bad, but turning her friends in was perhaps the real punishment. That would probably be it, if she turned in her friends by telling her mentor, she wouldn't be that popular. It would be better to just tell them that she did not mention their name, but Cayana asked for them. Really, it didn't mater. She would probably bew put out of the tower because of this. Supressing a shudder and open tears at the thought, the small novice gave the Mistress of the Novices a shaky curtsie. "I will tell them, Cayana Sedai. When should I report for my first... kitchen duty, and how long shall they go on?" Four hours out of her free time wouldn't give her much time in the library, and that was something to morn over. Kathera really wanted to get as much time in the library as she could before... she was sent away. Oh, how she dreaded the day.

Looking up from her feet, she spoke in a tiny voice. "I do not want to betray my friends in any way... but do you wish their names? I will not lie....." the next part of her speach came out with a small sob. "But as I will probably be put out of the tower as soon as I can manage the power because of this.... I supose it dosen't matter." The red haired novice bit back tears as she spoke those words, not wanting to tell Cayana and betray her friends, and not wanting to openly admit she would probably have to leave the tower. It was painfull to Kathera's small amount of pride, and she was not one to betray others to better her position. She really didn't want to give her mentor the impression that she would reveal them to stay in the tower, as she would not do that, but she would also not lie if Cayana asked for their names. The poor novice stared at the floor as she waited for the awnser, still bitting back the tears that threatened to overwhelm her control.

The girl didn't leave right away. She stood, shaking as she curtsied and so close to tears now that Cayana wanted to shake her head. "I will tell them, Cayana Sedai. When should I report for my first... kitchen duty, and how long shall they go on?" Cayana didn't shake her head but she did answer the girl. "After you have sent your friends here and until I say so." The girl was not happy about it. But even so she kept talking, in a tiny voice pressed down to it by the tears she was holding back, tears of fear. "I do not want to betray my friends in any way... but do you wish their names? I will not lie..... But as I will probably be put out of the tower as soon as I can manage the power because of this.... I supose it dosen't matter." Cayana sighed openly this time before answering the girl. "Yes do tell me the names of your friends, but girl, you have not made enough offenses to be put out of the Towers yet. But mind that you will if you continuously do." Light, the girl thought she'd get kicked out for angering recruits? It was clear Shaya had kept quite quiet about her nightly excursion. That if something was something to earn you a trip to the door once the Aes Sedai where done with you.

After Kathera had named the girls Cayana gestured to the door again. "Now, please, go and tell them I want to see them and then go report for your punishment duties." The girl was a bit to shook up to react right away so Cayana went on. "Go on, girl" She said and a small smile was on her lips. Not an evil smile, one of encouragement. The girl was truly beating herself down over this already. It was good, it meant she didn't need as much punishment as the others probably did.

(ooc: I'l message them that you want to 'talk' to them about turning reqruits blue...)

Kathera gave another shakey curtsie, and fled from the room. After running down a few halls, she leaned against the wall, hlaf smiling, half crying. So she wouldn't be put out of the tower, after all! But the bad news... she had to tell them. Wiping her eyes with the back of her sleeve, Kathera hurried down the hall, head down. This was going to be worse than confronting Cayana Sedai... It wasn't pleasant to tell your friends you went for punishment and had to turn them in. Perhaps, perhaps, they would forgive her...

Alilisa was muttering to herself as she walked down the halls to meet with the Mistress of Novices. She was thinking over in her head on what she was going to say, after all she really didn't mean to turn the recruits blue, she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. But would the Mistress of Novices believe her? Alilisa was merely delivering the laundry, though she had known something was up she had not said anything, maybe that's why she would be punished. This was Alilisa's first offense, she had hoped to never get into trouble, but it looked like that record was broken. What would her mentor say?

Alilisa sighed and opened the door to the Cayanna's study. She walked in curtseyed and said "You wished to see me Cayanna Sedai?" ALilisa could feel a lump rise up in her throat and waited for Cayanna to start yelling at her or something, how would she get out of this? Alilisa knew the only thing she could do was tell the truth. Her father always told her she'd get into worse trouble if she lied.

Alilisa waited for the Mistress of Novices to speak, and tried to fight back tears.

((ooc: I suppose this would be best befoe Mika's sad news :look ))

Mika shook her head profoundly. Why did she go and tell??? oh blast it! Sure playing pranks was fun. But most of the time one got caught and you ended up crubbing pots or copying stupid books. Or other times some whiney , stuck up novice would tell on them to get on another sisters good side. but those were the risks of the trade.

This however was a very annoying thing. one of the culprits that had gotten scared and that had turned towards the Mistress of Novices. it happened so seldom that Mika could hardly believe that Kathera had actually done it. She must have been found out! I mean who'd go back and tell on themselves?

once more she shook her head as she pondered that most likely they'd be found out about anyways... after all, it wasn't that big a deal to find out which novices where on laundry duty that afternoon. and if they found out the Mika had been doing the laundry then they'd have known enough. at least Mika wouldn't be pressed to tell on the other ones this time.

As she rounded the corner she suddenly saw Alilisa knocking on the door of the mistress of novices and she swiftly ran to appear next to the girl as soon as the door opened. "you wished to see us Cayana Sedai" the other girl said as she saw Mika appear next to her.

It wasn't all to long before Kathera had left that the door opened without even a knock. "You wished to see me Cayanna Sedai?" A voice said and Cayana looked up. Cayana waved for the girl to step inside and after her came Mika. As they stepped inside Cayana just eyed them both for a while, letting them sweat for a bit before telling them. "Well? What do you have to say for yourselves?" She looked from Mika to Alilisa with that schooled serene look of any Aes Sedai. Neither of them was happy about this, and Kathera would have troubles because of it. But Cayana didn't care about the girls internal affairs at the moment, for the moment the deed of 'turning recruits and Gaidin blue' was what it was all about.

While Kathera had been away a report had arrived at Cayanas desk about the incident and she knew quite well what it was all about, more then what Kathera had told about, more mostly about the affects then who and how. It had actually been a little amusing to read the report for once, or at least the tone of the Gaidin writing it. Cayana knew the man just in passing, but his ways and opinions where so clear in the text that she hadn't been able to help herself from laughing at times while reading it. Now on the other hand no joy was displayed in Cayanas face or voice and the report was filed away like most of her other reports. She was just waiting patiently for the girls to speak about what had happened, who ever of them that felt like going first.

Alilisa found herself toeing the ground, did she dare speak up first? Would Mika surely hate her if she dared open her mouth? What would she tell the Mistress of Novices? Alilisa bit her lip hard and tried to think of just a simple answer, but what? Cayanna was asking one of them to tell what happened. Finally, after the initial shock Alilisa spoke up. "Cayanna Sedai I knew what was going on and should have stayed out of the prank, but I didn't think I would get into trouble." Alilisa gulped. "I brought laundry with the girls, but didn't really know what was going on till I saw the recruits turn blue. I know I should have come to you right away but I did not." Alilisa looked over at Mika to see what the other novice's expressions were saying. Then she looked back at the Mistress of Novices, trying to keep a calm face. At any moment Alilisa knew she could burst into tears. She was just too sensitive. If anything, she had to work on that before becoming Aes Sedai in the future, but the future was so far off.

Right now, in the present she was trying not to get into too much trouble.

Mika could hardly believe her ears as she heard the other novice speak up, defending herself and trying to get away from underneath the punishment. She wanted to gape at the girl and shake her head, but she somehow managed to keep her features smooth as Alilisa glanced her way to see her reaction.

well it was only one of her first days here... only logical that she doesn't want to get into trouble just yet.
"It's True Cayana Sedai" Mika added as the sister now turned her face to her. "Alilisa only came in while we were already gathering the clothes and could read on our faces that Kathera and I were planning something but I doubt she knew it had anything to do with the clothes."
You better appriciate this Mika thought to herself as she covered up for the novice and you can be sure that one day I expect to have the favor returned she added mentally.

Mika only hoped fervently that the girl would now just do nothing but confirmate the part that she'd said if she didn't it would mean a whole lot of trouble more for Mika, and all of that only because she was being nice to the new girl.

((OOC: It's Cayana ;) ))

Watching them Alilisa was the first one to speak. "Cayanna Sedai I knew what was going on and should have stayed out of the prank, but I didn't think I would get into trouble." Gulping the girl continued. "I brought laundry with the girls, but didn't really know what was going on till I saw the recruits turn blue. I know I should have come to you right away but I did not." Cayana was about to ask why, but she was interrupted. "It's True Cayana Sedai" Mika added. "Alilisa only came in while we were already gathering the clothes and could read on our faces that Kathera and I were planning something but I doubt she knew it had anything to do with the clothes." Cayana eyed the girls. It wasn't all to common for novices to cover for each other. It was their choice though. Alilisa would probably be in debt to Mika for a long time because of this. "Fine. Alilisa you will join Kathera in the Kitchen. That's 4 hours extra kitchen duties a day. Now Alilisa, leave, Kathera should be down there already. Mika, you will stay, I still have things I want to talk to you about."

After Alilisa had left Cayana watched Mika. Mika was not going to be happy about this one bit. "First of all I want you to explain why you did what you did." It was always hard to explain pranks after they where over. Mostly it was all about the rush, the variation of the day, but saying that to the Aes Sedai who were about to punish you was a bad idea. Cayana knew, she had done that once herself.

"Fine. Alilisa you will join Kathera in the Kitchen. That's 4 hours extra kitchen duties a day. Now Alilisa, leave, Kathera should be down there already. Mika, you will stay, I still have things I want to talk to you about." Mika nodded inwardly. Cayana Sedai had bought it. or maybe just allowed it. for a second Mika thought about how much Aes SEdai knew of polecy between novices, after all they had been novices themselves once. however silly that might have looked.

When she tire dto picture the Aes Sedai in novice-white -which didn't succeed... she just was an Aes Sedai and kept looking like it even in the dull white dress- she was suddenly torn out of her thoughts as the mistress of novices spoke again, asking the oh-so-expected-and-oh-so-difficult question:
"First of all I want you to explain why you did what you did."

Ack! does she HAS to ask that every single time? she knows well enough why I do it... why every bloody novice does it! However much she was grumbling though she let her mind work at full speed, trying to find a decent answer. Without her own knowing it however, Mika had this way learned to control her tongue and say what could be said instead of what shouldn't be said instead but still within the truth, for you didn't want to be caught lying to an Aes Sedai. It was almost as if she was speaking a form of Aes Sedai truth... or at least learning it; in her own way.

This time was a hard one however and Mika didn't really like the feeble answer she gave "Well we were curious about how attentive the recruits are and how fast they'd notice it, and if they actually be so keen to notice the paint before getting the clothes on" She tried to keep her voice steady and calm; yet with enough needed sentiment of someone down for punishment.
