Kathera sighed to herself as she scrubbed the greasy pot. At least she had gone herself to the Mistress of the Novices... It would have been worse if Cayana Sedai had to go haul her off to punish. Perhaps if the recruit hadn't threatened her, she wouldn't hsave gotten frightened and gone of to tell on herself. Thinking of it, Kathera had to admit it would be rather amusing to go thank him for it. He surely would be baffeled if she cared to try it. But then again, the other pranksters probably wouldn't be so nice about. Obviously not. Stiffling a groan, Kathera glanced around for the Mistress of the Kitchens. Seeing her at the other end of the room, the novice hid a groan in her soapy hand and continued scrubbing. Oh, why four hours? And every day till Cayana Sedai remebered to take her off the punishment.... or thought it was enough. It almost made her want to cry when she thought about it. At least she hadn't been sent to a farm to work for a few weeks... With that in mind, Kathera went back to scrubbing with more vigor. Perhaps, maybe, her fellow novices would forgive her.... It was only her misfortune that one of those fellow pranksters happened to also be Kathera's roommate. Ah, it would be solved in time. Speaking of time, she though to herself, how long does four hours take??? She had been at work for about fifteen minutes, and it already felt like her four hours were up. Why, the Mistress of the Kitchens had alread whaped her with that laddle about five times! For a woman of her size, she was rather efficient. Deciding it might not be to good o think about her weight, the dejected novice went back to scrubbing. |

Marian entered the kitchens quickly, looking for a small loaf of bread. She was going out into the city for the day, hopefully to buy a few trinkets for her novice friends, but she needed something to eat before she left. She had spent the morning studying, and there had been no time to eat breakfast. Her stomach growled, and she rolled her eyes. Light, there was no Aes Sedai cure for hunger... Novices and Accepted alike bustled around in the kitchens with plates and soapy buckets. Marian was glad that it was not her day for such chores, and she hoped that the kitchen mistress would not be able to rope her into chores that morning. Hurrying along, she looked to see if there were any spare loaves of bread about or something... She could just ask one of the novices, but she didn't want to bother them. Half of them were probably there on price of punishment. Marian grinned, remembering how often Kathera had been sent to... She blinked. Speaking of Kathera, there she was, looking quite annoyed with her current situtation. Marian smiled, putting her plans on hold for the moment. She could spare a few minutes to greet her friend, and perhaps she would be allowed to help her out a bit. She was sure the kitchen mistress would snatch her up if she did not... "My, Kathera, you make even soap suds look flattering," she said with a smile, hands on her hips as she approached her friend. "What happened this time?" It wasn't Kathera's rotation of girls that she was with, so Marian assumed it was a punishment. ((OOC: Sorry it took me so long...)) |

Kathera looked up, suprised by Marian's voice. Grimacing, she pushed her hair out of her eyes with a soapyy hand, looking at her friend. "Well... I turned some recruits blue." Remebering, the novice couldn't help but smile. "Put powdered blue paint on reqruits clothing... they put it on and sweated, making hte paint liquid and dyeing themselves blue." Kathera looked away, rembering with a faint smile on her lips. Glancing back at Marian, she couldn't help but grin. "And why are you here? Wanted to tell me I looked worse that a dust bunny?" Smiling, Kathera returned back to her pots, talking to Marian over her shoulder. "Don't bother telling me I was stupid to play a prank.... it was fun!" Looking at the Accepted, the novice grinned, rather happily for one with three more hours of kitchen duty to go. A lot more happy then she deserved to be, in short terms. Gesturing to the pots, Kathera raised an eyebrow at her friend. "Want to help? The mistress of the kitchens is comeing this way." She was, and the novice hastened to put her attention back on the sink before the large woman noticed her. Looking back at Marian, Kathera grinned, pulling more stray red hair out of her eyes. It was getting rather long, and Kathera didn't think she was in a position to get a haircut. Thinking back at her days at home, Kathera found herself wishing for a bowl haircut with a bit of shock. Actually wanting a bowl haircut? That was what being a novice did to you... |

"Well... I turned some recruits blue," Kathera responded. Marian couldn't help but snort at that, holding back a loud laugh. It wouldn't do to have people laughing in the kitchens - the kitchen mistress would be on them like a hawk! Kathera smiled and spoke again. "Put powdered blue paint on reqruits clothing... they put it on and sweated, making hte paint liquid and dyeing themselves blue." Marian shook her head, chuckling softly, both from the fact that it was a prank only Kathera would think to pull, as well as how strange the recruits must have looked. Marian briefly wondered if the strange recruit who had gotten in a fight with one of the soldiers had been one of Kathera's victims. She shamefully pushed away the thought that she hoped he had been. She was Accepted, and it would not do to have childish ideas such as that. "And why are you here? Wanted to tell me I looked worse that a dust bunny?" asked Kathera. So like Kathera, Marian figured, to still have a sense of humor even though she was being punished for chores. Marian laughed and crossed her arms. "Well, I'd still say you look better than a dust bunny, but that's only because your red hair adds the color that a dust bunny will never achieve," she explained. She smiled to show that she was joking. Kathera would know that Marian was only fooling of course, since that was what the two of them liked to do best. "I'm actually just about to go out to the city, but I haven't eaten yet," she explained. "I'm famished." She looked to see a loaf of bread passing her by... "Want to help? The mistress of the kitchens is comeing this way." At that, Marian sunk her hands into the sink. "Light, I'm not giving up a day of free time for that woman," muttered Marian out of the corner of her mouth to Kathera. "I've already done my kitchen duty for the week!" Marian was careful to keep quiet, for she didn't want the Mistress to overhear her. She smiled at Kathera. |

Kathera grinned, and looked attentivly at the pot in her hands as the large woman passed by, threatening a few novices with her ladle. Glancing away from the sink, she watched the mistress of the kitchens until she was out of earshot. Smiling, she dug a wet hand into her belt pouch, coming up with a crumpled roll that she had saved from breakfast. "Want some?" She asked, motioning to the squashed roll. Setting it down on the counter for Marian, if she wanted it, the red-haired novice returned to her chore. "I should have known dust bunnies could not compare to my beauty." Grinning, she tossed her hair, and once again plunged her hands into the pot. It was one thing to joke with a friend when scrubbing, it was another to joke with a friend when your not scrubbing. Sahking her head, she rinsed the pot off and handed it to another novice with a towel, who was busy drying a large stack of clean dishes. Grabing another dirty pot, Kathera glared down at the crusted on food. Looking back up at Marian, who appeared to be eyeing to crumpled roll, Kathera filled the pot with water and once again begain to scrub. Only three more hours of this... and Marian will stay with you for a while.... That in mind, the novice scrubbed a bit harder, wanting to get it done. Of course, once she got this pot done, there would be another.... and still more coming. Really, they could do with a lot less pots. Then there would be less time for the food to crust to the bottom. Wishing for a bowl of porrige, or something relativly hot, Kathera srunched over the sink as the mistress of the kitchens came lumbering past, still smacking wrists with her ladle. |

(OOC: I hope you don't mind, Cayana said I had to help you with dishes) The door banged against the side of the wall when Alilisa threw it open, she hardly cared though. Mika was now mad at her. She had told Cayana the truth, or at least her version. Now she had to help scrub pots with Kathera. In four hours she could leave, four hours! Alilisa nodded to Kathera and Marian. "Cayana Sedai sent me to help you with the dishes as punishment." Alilisa shoved her hands in the soapy water and began scrubbing a pot. She sighed to herself. Just as soon as this punishment was done, maybe, just maybe she could be raised to Accepted. Oh how she longed to not be novice anymore. It was like torture! |

"I s'pose I could help for a bit," Marian said with a wink, scooting into the sink next to Kathera to wash some dishes. She could easily remember doing dishes as a novice. The memories were certainly not fond. Marian still had dish duty every once and awhile, but she did not do it nearly as often as she had as a novice. Now she had more time for studying and learning, something that she knew Kathera would enjoy as an Accepted. She sighed, wondering when or if Kathera would get raised. She believed that her friend would, at least at some point, but Marian also didn't want Kathera to have to go through the ter'angreal. She glanced at her friend. Kathera, who was always joking and happy... Marian wondered what she feared, though it was none of her business. Marian's own fears had been quite strange, but no matter... I will become Aes Sedai. Her head had pounded that thought through out her days now. She was determined to be Aes Sedai. Light. She wouldn't have gone through the ter'angreal if she wasn't going to. Marian blinked and saw Alilisa come in. She gave her a small smile and a nod. Apparently she was supposed to help with dishes as well. Glancing at Kathera, she commented, "Well, I suppose you have all the help that you need now." Marian pulled her hands out of the sink and dried them on a towel. She said, only to Kathera's ears, "You know, you can always come visit me in the Accepted quarters, when you have time." She smiled at her friend. "Besides, I might have something good for you from the city." She winked and said good-bye to Alilisa. Then she took towards the exit, taking a leftover roll as she passed. She waved good-bye to her friends. |

Kathera sighed as Marian left, though glad to hear that she could come and visit sometime. Sighing, she scrubbed harder, wishing the pot could clean itself. As unlikely as it seemed, it was a nice thought and the novice scrubbed more vigorously. Minutes passed by, and Kathera was once again brought to what Marian had said. I'll have to visit her, soon... anyways, I want to see what Accepted quarters look like. The thought was cheering, and the red-haired novice almost forgot about the soapy water and the durty pot that she was curently washing. BUt it was short lived, and soon her knuckles were stinging again. Shrinking over the sink as the Mistress of the Kitchens busstled by, armed with her wooden ladle, the novice wanted to cry. The price of a prank... Smiling, she thought about that prank as she put the now clean pot on the drying rack. Turning recruits blue was even more fun than it sounded. And it sounded quite good, at least to this novices ears. Time ticked by, the novice still scrubbing away, left to her own thoughts. Sighing as she almost got whacked with a ladle, Kathera decided that is she ever grew up, she'd never see a ladle again. Exspecially one in the pudgey hand of the Mistress of the Kitchens. Brushing wet hair out of her eyes, she glared down at the soapy water. But as she glanced back up at the clock, she wanted to let out a woop of joy. Her time in the kitchens was done, she was free! Sudenly understanding the saying 'free as a bird', Kathera quickly made her way out of the kitchens, snaging a leftover roll just as Marian had. Bitting into it, she hurried down the hall, glad to be away from the sink. |
