Weariness spooked trough Mika's mind, and for a moment she wondered how long they had been training already. somehow it seemed really short, after all, they hadn't gotten thát far, but then again... Mika had been trying an awful lot of times, and had been really happy when the sister told her that it was only naturally for novices on their first attempt to that weave. The next weave seemed difficult enough already, but for some reason, it did not take Mika too long to wrap air around the candle and hover it to her. She assumed it might have something to do with the fact that she'd been training so hard already. Carefully she held the candle in her hand and let the weaves or air go; to be replaced by those of fire. It wasn't that hard and soon Mika switched over to Air again and sniffed out the small flame, only to repeat the exercice again; and again and again. Over time she even managed to make the flame of the right size -just a small flame instead of a little ball of fire- but it became harder every single time; the switching between elements was hard, and however sweet the bliss of saidar was, Mika was starting to lose her concentration to it, however hard she tried to hang on to that. Suddenly, she she reached for the candle again with Fire, she managed to let her grip on the element go and the flame did come out but a tad lower, on her hand instead of the candle; surprised at the sudden heath and burnwound, Mika dropped the candle and lost her grip on Saidar. At the moment that the One Power left her, the gloomyness of the world seemed to crush down heavilly upon her and with a sad face she looked at her hand, ready to cry... though she hardly knew why... because of the burnwound, because of the loss of saidar, because of her failed effort... she couldn't tell. |

Freyja watched again carefully how the girl managed the weaves. She succeeded in making the flame and estinguishing it at her first try and got better when she repeated it. But after a while her concentration seemed to slip. She wove Fire and let her control over it slip too fast, so it didn't land on the candle but on her hand. Mika dropped the candle and the glow of saidar vanished around her. No wonder after a surprise like that. Freyja was kind of glad that Mika had learned what Fire could do if you lost control, and she wondered for a while if she should leave her the burnmark as a reminder of that, but she didn't want to be harsh. The girl looked miserable already. So she gently took her hand to hers, smiling at her warmly, and weaved Air, Spirit and Water in complicated forms and Healed her. The burnmark vanished, leaving only a slightly paler area of skin. "Now you see that Fire is dangerous if you can't control it", Freyja said as she leaned back again. "You handled the exercise well, but I see you are getting tired, so we should leave the more complicated weaves that include Fire for another time. If you are not too tired, I would like you to try one more weave. Water," she said and wove a single strand of it again, "is used for example to wet things or control weather." She let the strand vanish and used Water and a slight weave of Air to separate water from the air around them and made it cluster. Soon it seemed to be raining from nowhere. There was no cloud to be seen but still fat drops of water landed on the floor in front of her. "Try this, and I promise we are finished after it." She showed the weave again more slowly and motionod for Mika to start. |

The yellow sister took Mika's hand inhers and smiled warmly as a multitude of threads came from her and were woven together in a healing weave; the entire sight of it was impressive and Mika feared that never in the light she'd be able to do anything that complex. however simple the weave actually was. "You handled the exercise well, but I see you are getting tired, so we should leave the more complicated weaves that include Fire for another time. If you are not too tired, I would like you to try one more weave. Water," Mika looked at the woman in front of her too tired to learn how to channel? never! Mika said strongly in her own mind and she straightened up her back again. She could see another strand of water again, "is used for example to wet things or control weather." She let the strand vanish and used Water and a slight weave of Air to separate water from the air around them and made it cluster. Soon it seemed to be raining from nowhere. There was no cloud to be seen but still fat drops of water landed on the floor in front of her. "Try this, and I promise we are finished after it." She showed the weave again more slowly and motionod for Mika to start. After a few minutes Mika finally managed to get a hold on Saidar again... the fac that she was very tired did not make it easy for Mika, but she kept trying. The joy of Saidar running trough her, gave her a new burst of energy and she managed to concentrate on trying to make the weave. Twice she failed, but at the third time she managed -if only for a short period- to make it rain in the room. |

It took a while for Mika to get a hold on saidar again but when she did, she seemed to brighten up again. She failed only twice before she was able to make drops of water fall from the air. Freyja nodded approvingly again. "Very good." She let go of saidar regrettingly. Feeling saidar inside her was something Freyja enjoyd, it made everything so more alive, and letting go was always an efford. Even after so many years of using the Power. "You have done well today. The weaves I showed you were not the easiest ones to start with. Sometimes I thought they were too hard, but you managed them all. You will be very strong in the One Power one day, but you need practice. But you have done enough for today. Do you have any questions about channeling before we finish?" Most girls did, and some of them were to shy to ask if not encouraged to. She didn't think Mika was shy, but still, it was good to remind novices they could ask her about anything at any time. She really thought Mika had done well today, Freyja had a habit of starting with quite hard weaves. She waited expectantly if the girl had any questions. |

As her new mentor told Mika that that had been enough for today and that she could now let go of Saidar, Mika's smile faded. Letting go of saidar.... it was a horrid thing actually... The first time she'd done it was after she'd broken her block, when Cayana Sedai told her to; and she'd cried after it... far at her brothers rememberance ceremony, the feeling of life and bliss had been so warming, and she felt as if she'd walked from a bright, sunny day in a field of flowers into a pitchblack stormy night... it was terrible. That had been the worst time, but Mika assumed that it had quite a bit to do with the fact that she'd just lost her brother. Now however it still felt utterly bad and the young novice had to shiver as the gloomyness of the world took her. She knew it was dangerous to be feeling like tis, to be wanting to cling onto the One power... she'd been taught and told that enough... it still felt bad though. "Freyja Sedai..." she said softly "Will it always feel this.... cold... this gloomy to let go of Saidar or does that fade in time?" off course she'd never seen an Aes Sedai show any sign of sadness after letting go of Saidar, but then again, she asumed they had to be able to hide it behind their everlasting mask of serenity. |

"Freyja Sedai..." Mika started. "Will it always feel this.... cold... this gloomy to let go of Saidar or does that fade in time?" Freyja smiled at her memories from her own novicehood. She remembered how horrible it was to let go of saidar once she knew she could embrace it. Now that she thought about it, she realised that it actually didn't feel so bad anymore. When she was a novice, all excitement and wonderment, she never wanted to let go. She didn't have that enthusiasm in her anymore. "Well, it depends on the person. I know how you must feel, I was a novice myself a long time ago, but it doesn't feel so bad anymore. Of course it still feels terrible, letting go of something so great, but with experience and using the One Power you get used to it. The feeling doesn't go away, I doubt it ever will, but it fades a bit, and it is easier to let go. I know you want to hold saidar in you all the time, but remember the cost if you draw too much saidar. You have to let go again and again and you have to get used to that. You will, eventually." She hoped that Mika throughly understood the danger in drawing too much saidar. Some novices didn't and they ended up burning their ability. They usually died in a few years time. Freyja didn't want Mika to share that fate, she didn't want anyone to share it, but she knew that Mika had probably been harassed with it for long enough. She didn't want to nag. "Well, if you don't have any more questions, you are free to go." |

slightly relieved Mika took in the explanation about the fact that the dreadful fealing would wane in time. It was a bit funny though, trying to imagine the Yellow sister as a novice... Mika often did this, just looking at Aes Sedai and wondering how they had been like when they still were novices; it often was interesting with what kind of stories she came up in her mind. "Well, if you don't have any more questions, you are free to go." Mika got up and curtsied to the woman once more "Thank you for the class Freyja Sedai" she said clearly before she walked of, back to the library to aid Rijomu Sedai. But first she'd have a quick stopover at the mess hall, in the hope of finding something to smuggle along to the brown sister and eat in the meanwhile. Briefly she wondered when the brown sister wouldeat, for she'd never seen the woman eat yet. Silly girl, she'd just eat while you're not around. she reprimanded herself as she shook her head for her sillyness. |

"Thank you for the class Freyja Sedai" Mika said after a curtsy. Freyja smiled at her back as she left. It had been a long class, but she had done well, and that was all Freyja had expected. She will become a good Aes Sedai. She rose from the cushions and started cleaning the room. There wasn't much to be cleaned, so she could as well do it herself. She dried the wet floor with flows of Fire. There wasn't much else to be done, so she smoothed her dress and after a last glance left the classroom and closed the door. |
