Mika sat in her room, her fingers and wrists hurt from writing for over an hour now. She had been asked by Dedicated Jonas to write an essay on the Trolloc and had been –for a few nights already now- been working on that. The dedicated had been giving a class on Shadowspawn and had given everyone some form of it on which they had to write a paper. And merely because he did not like Mika, he’d given her the trolloc ”I know this creature is the most widely known and you’ll find most information about it. So make sure your essay is the best one I’ll receive. One single fact that I know and that I cannot find in your paper, and be sure you can visit Cayana Sedai for neglecting class duties.” “manure eating cockroach” she muttered under her breath as she moved her head in wide circles to crack her joints and relief the pressure she’d been building in her neck. Before her already lay three pages which she was fairly sure of that she’d keep, but there were a lot of drafts as well, things that she’d scratched trough, things that had not been correct, books that told different things then others... this stupid task had been taking her several hours in both the library as her desk already; while others could have finished theirs with one evenings work. “so unfair” she muttered as she looked at the stack of copies she’d been making from books since she wasn’t allowed to take any of them to her room Suddenly Mika could hear chimes ring; reminding her of how long she’d been sitting in her room already, working on the paper and she laughed; ever since she’d managed to stay out of trouble Mika had gotten a lot more of free time. Surely in her mind she was still bothered by some of the other novices who tended to bully novices who never got into trouble, but Mika had a steady reputation which kept her safe for a while and a solid excuse for not pranking too much; after all, it wasn’t all to rare that the biggest tricksters had to lay low for a while because they were closely watched and were close to being reprimanded extremely harsh. So instead of having worked for hours and actually being in he midst of the night –like usual- Mika now found herself thinking about making a short walk into the gardens since it was still before her curfew. She feared however that it’d be too pointless and just a waste of time... she still had to finish this paper and write it in full before the next class in a few days. “Maybe a trip to the library” she said softly as she got up an walked towards her bed to put on her shoes again. “I might even get to see Edeleas again.” As she said that she froze in her tracks as she wondered why she’d said it and memories of him pulling her towards his body, his hand covering her lips flashed trough her mind, she shook her head to get rid of them and felt the heath reaching into her cheeks. “What are you thinking about you woolhead girl” she said defiantly to herself and immediately brought up the image of a trolloc and what she’d read about them in the books. ”the Trolloc is a vile beast which, though not very intelligent, has great skills in hunting, skills gained by their bestial ancestors. They seem to have a crude taste for sadism though this is merely to human eyes; most likely to them their bloodthirsty and vicious attacks are merely normal behaviour” Memories of nearly seven years ago clouded Mika’s vision and once more she could see the trollocs hold their bloodbath on the people of tarenferry. Beast it were indeed... cruel beast which had to be killed, one by one. And as Mika made her way into the hallways, the images just kept coming, pushing them upon herself while within the novice the feeling of hatred grew. And now more then ever Mika was convinced that one day she’d wear the shawl with green fringes and, accompanied by her warders, she’d ride out to rid the world of shadowspawn, so that no other people should suffer the way she had. Without knowing it however, her feet had carried her to the green ajah quarters and Mika just stood frozen for a while as she noticed where she was. Oh well... maybe I could as around a bit... get a gaidin or green sisters help... their knowledge might be better and more interesting then books. She thought and then looked around wondering what exactly to do. “What are you doing here child?” she suddenly heard a voice come from behind her and as Mika turned around she immediately dropped into a curtsey as she noticed the Great Serpent ring and ageless face of the green sister standing behind her. It took all her willpower to do it, but Mika managed to stand up straight and look the sister in the eye “I’ve been given an assignment for my shadowspawn class and was hoping a green sister might be willing to share some experience with me about Trollocs... I already have been studying about them in the library, but it would be nice if there was some different knowledge that I could put in my essay.” The sister just tilted her head with a small smile on her lips. “wellwell” she just said for a moment, and Mika started feeling like an idiot for even asking, after all why would Aes Sedai have time, or more, make time to answer silly questions of a woolhead novice. “Go to Virta Sedai, her quarters are in the next hall , the last doors to your left, and tell her that I sent you, child, she should be willing to answer your questions.” With a “thank you, Karassa Sedai” and another curtsey, Mika waited for the sister to dispose her and then made her way to the other sister, wondering whether she would actually do as the first, rather young sister had said. And indeed, as soon as Mika mentioned Karassa sedai’s name, the other sister agreed to help her and Mika assumed that the two were friends or something. For quite a while Mika just sat there, listening carefully to every single word the sister said; locking all her new-found knowledge safely away in her mind; and then she heard more chimes and this time she knew she had to go, for it was the calling for novices, the one that told them that soon curfew would be and she had to be in her room then. So she heartily thanked Virta Sedai and stepped out of her room, heading back to the novice halls in the lower regions of the towers. |
