Sapphira sat at her desk, trying to keep her mind focused on the paperwork in front of her, but she was restless today. She finally threw her pen onto her desk and swore under her breath, there was no way she could stay in here all day. She really wanted a day out, to go somewhere, anywhere, just outside of the Tower. She certainly loved it, it was her home now after all, but everyone needed a day or two off now and then. She heard a voice outside her office, and Lyla's familiar voice in reply. There was one woman who never needed a break, Lyla only left the Tower once in a great while, only for a day or two every few months. Sapphira tried to get at least a day trip to the city in once a month at the very longest interval, she really would like one a week. She listened as Lyla spoke to whoever was in the antechamber, she could not make out the words, but whoever it was, apparently did not need to see Sapphira. She heard the voices go quiet, and no one entered her study. Sapphira sighed and stood, Lyla might not need a break, but Sapphira certainly did. She wondered where to go, she was reluctant to go to the city, her last three visits there had not ended pleasantly. She thought for a few moments, it was time for a visit out of the city, she had not been away from Tar Valon for a very long time, certainly she had earned a day or two off. As she thought, her mind turned again to her Keeper, the woman certainly deserved a break. She made up her mind, she just had to decide where to go. She stepped out into the antechamber, and looked around. The only person here was Lyla, thankfully, she had not wanted to clear the room of anyone waiting to speak to her. "Lyla," she said with her customary nod. Doubtless the woman would think Sapphira was simply off on another walk to the grounds. Sapphira did not step through the door though, and thought a moment about just how to pose her question. "Lyla, what would you say to getting out of here?" she asked with a smile. "Out to lunch, maybe a little shopping, a day or two spent somewhere else? You've earned a break, certainly." She stood, waiting for Lyla to reply. She hoped Lyla was as burnt out on work as she was, it would make for lovely company if she agreed to go. "I thought a trip to Caemlyn might be nice," she added, in hopes that a specific image would make Lyla more likely to go. Lyla blinked, and paused, apparently thinking about the offer. After a few moments, she spoke, "I've worked no harder than you, we both deserve it." Sapphira smiled, thankful that the Keeper had agreed. "Alright, wonderful," she replied, going over to the door of the room, pausing to wait for Lyla to join her. Sapphira stepped out of the antechamber, and into the Tower halls. She walked alongside Lyla silently. Sapphira stopped a passing novice, realizing that they had to tell someone that they were going. "Child," she said to the nervous-looking girl, "I need you to visit all the Ajah halls. Inform a sister in each of them that myself and Lyla Sedai are going to be out of the Tower for the next day or two. Anyone who needs to see us can visit when we get back." The girl nodded, and curtsied again before setting of quickly, an expression of surprise on her face. Surely that was the reaction most would have, Sapphira had tried hard to make sure over the past twenty-five years that at least one of them was in the Tower at all times. She could imagine the rumors that would spring up from this, trouble in whatever country they decided she and Lyla were visiting. Perhaps they had found a group of women who were pretending to be Aes Sedai. At least there would be only a few days at most for them to speculate before she and Lyla returned. She continued through the halls, nodding at passing sisters, and smiling at the Accepted. She hoped Lyla had not been working too hard lately. Light, but how could the Keeper not be working too hard? Sapphira continued to walk through the Tower, and out to the grounds. She made her way through to the Travelling grounds, where she embraced the Source. She walked to the center, and wove a Gateway to Caemlyn, the city was one of the few that also provided Travelling grounds, so that was where Sapphira opened her Gateway. She stepped back to let Lyla go through first, and then followed her into Andor. Once there, she turned to her Keeper. "I was thinking, would you like to be here not as Aes Sedai? I think it would be a wonderful break from the ordinary. However, I'm quite bad with Illusions, I know that you are quite good at them, would you do the honors?" She hoped that Lyla wanted to be out of the guise of Aes Sedai for a while, it was always nice not to be treated specially because of her ageless face. She doubted it, but there was always the possibitly that someone might even recognize her as Amyrlin. She let her Gateway disappear, and let her hold on the Source go. She felt drained as it left, life without saidar was not a full life. As she waited for Lyla's next answer, she stepped into a small alley, if Lyla did agree not to be Aes Sedai for now, then they could not very well turn from Aes Sedai to normal people in the plain view of everyone around here. Light, but that would not be a good way to escape their titles, certainly. |

A knock at the door made Lyla lift her head from the papers on her desk. It was the serving woman she had sent to bring her something to eat, she had a lot of paperwork, and she wanted to be done with it. Of course, there was always paperwork, always something to be done. Eying the tray the woman had put on her desk, it took her a moment to realize the woman had asked her something. "Thank you," she answered. "I don't need anything else." The woman curtsied and left, probably hurrying to bring some other Aes Sedai their lunch. The tray was covered with white cloth, and smelled of meet and cooked vegetables. Sighing, she took the paper she was reading before the maid came, and continued reading it. She was hungry, but she could a least finish what she had started. Few moments later, Sapphira stepped out of her room, probably meaning to go eat in the mess hall with the other Aes Sedai and Asha'man. She always liked to get out of her rooms, even get out of the Tower once in a while. Lyla could understand her; no one liked to be buried with papers and reports all day, but she herself had tried not to leave the Tower, only for her secret meetings with Rialt. "Lyla," Sapphira started, "what would you say to getting out of here?" it certainly was not what Lyla had expected. "Out to lunch, maybe a little shopping, a day or two spent somewhere else? You've earned a break, certainly." Lyla blinked, and looked at her papers. Sure, she could finish reading them once they got back, but it might be a waste of time, especially since she had had food brought to her. "I thought a trip to Caemlyn might be nice," Sapphira added. Well, it would be refreshing, no doubt. "I've worked no harder than you, we both deserve it." Lyla smiled. "Wonderful," Sapphira replied, and started for the door. Lyla followed silently as Sapphira walked through the halls. Suddenly a thought passed through Lyla's head, and Sapphira, probably thinking the same thing, stopped besides a curtsying Novice, ordering her to tell an Aes Sedai of each Ajah that they would be gone for a day or two. That made Lyla thinking. Did Sapphira have any other plans besides going out to lunch? The Amyrlin seldom left the Tower, as did the Keeper, and they always tried to work it out so at least one of them remained in the Tower at all times. They reached the Traveling grounds, the rest of the way walking quietly together, where Sapphira wove a gateway to Caemlyn's Traveling grounds. In Lyla's mind, every big city should have Traveling grounds, yet only a rare few had. "I was thinking," Sapphira asked, "would you like to be here not as Aes Sedai? I think it would be a wonderful break from the ordinary. However, I'm quite bad with Illusions, I know that you are quite good at them, would you do the honors?" Lyla smiled again, "it would be great." Walking over to an alley, Lyla felt Sapphira let go of the source as she herself had embraced it. The Illusion was really nothing big, a simple matter of erasing the agelessness features from their faces, changing small features, making them look similar to the Amyrlin and her Keeper, yet not identical. Producing a small mirror she usually carried in her belt, she checked her weaving, and let Sapphira look at herself as well. "So, Mother," Lyla asked. That title would not do in public, Sapphira may seem older than Lyla, but certainly not old enough to be her mother. Still, propriety had to be held. "Do you have any idea of where we might have our lunch? Or do you wish to look around, first, see what is new in the city?" |

((OOC: Lyla RPing!? What a shocker! :P)) Sapphira smiled when Lyla said that she would be glad to change their appearances. She watched as Lyla wove the Illusions, and applied them to each of them. Lyla's appearance changed minimally, she no longer looked ageless, but like a young woman who bore some resemblance to the Keeper of the Chronicles, if anyone knew what she looked like. Sapphira assumed she looked much like herself, but had no mirror to find out, she could always find a mirror later. She focused back on Lyla when the woman spoke to her again. She suppressed a cringe at her title, she was sure her Keeper knew better than to use the word in public, so Sapphira said nothing. She thought about the woman's question for a moment, whether to eat now, or in a bit. She remembered seeing a tray of food on Lyla's desk, so the woman must be at least somewhat hungry. That made up her mind, "I think we should eat first," she said. She thought for a few moments about where to eat. Somewhere in the Inner City, certainly, judging by Lyla's new appearance, they were fairly well off, certainly with enough money to eat in the more beautiful part of Caemlyn. Sapphira turned her steps that way, she knew of several lovely inns which would be suitable, but was not sure which to choose for today. She wondered whether Lyla knew of any good inns, and finally decided to ask her, perhaps it would be one Sapphira knew as well. "Where would you like to go?" she asked, knowing that Lyla would never speak up unless prompted. Light, but the woman was very proper, almost too much so for Sapphira sometimes. Hopefully by the end of this little trip she would have stamped out some of the propriety of the woman. Sapphira had grown up a commoner, and a very happy, outgoing one at that, and had never truly lost her personality from that time. True, it had been very much hidden and altered as a Red, but now that Sapphira was Amyrlin, she thought it was alright to let it shine again. She waited for Lyla to reply, still walking toward the inner city. She made her way through the crowd, a bit more difficult than usual without the advantage of an ageless face. The crowd tended not to part for just another person, even a noble, the way it did for a sister. Still, they made their way through the streets toward the Inner City. One thing Sapphira had to admit about Caemlyn was that even the Outer City was kept quite lovely. It was not the beauty of the older part of the city, but there was no denying that it was clean- if not quite so clean as Tar Valon, but nothing was. Sapphira was quite pleased with her choice of cities, it was quite a bit warmer here to the south of Tar Valon, surely had she chosen to go any further south it would have been too warm. As it was, it was a comfortable day, one that Sapphira was sure she could fully enjoy. |

(ooc: a shocker?? what? you don't think I can RP? *sad puppy face*) It took Sapphira only a moment to answer the first part of Lyla's question; they would eat first, then do whatever else they had in mind, but she hesitated in answering the second. Finally Sapphira opened her mouth, "Where would you like to go?" she asked. That took a moment of hesitation from Lyla. Well, their clothes named them two nobles and fit them in the Inner City, which she didn't regret. Being born a Noble, it was often very difficult to Lyla to act a commoner. They were walking towards the Inner City, Sapphira must have been thinking quite the same. "Well," she started, "I could name you a few good inns, if you wish me too." The absence of Sapphira's title made the sentence sound odd in Lyla's ears. There was one inn in the Inner City and one in the Outer that had to be avoided, or they – she, at least – would be recognized. In one the innkeeper was an agent of the Blues Eyes and Ears, in the other, of her own network, but both would recognize her. The Rose and the Lion came to mind, the cook there was one of the best, and the inn itself stood in a nice place. She said as much, and Sapphira nodded. The place might have been warmer than Tar Valon, but as long as she kept concentrating, she did not mind the weather. And luckily for her, as she was still used to the warmer weather of Altara. The streets were nice to walk in – at least the bigger ones – and the silence that lasted in the Tower now gave room to chatting, mostly about events in the Tower, but unlike their talks inside the Tower, this one was relaxed, the pressures from the Tower were still in the Tower, and did not press as much. Maybe they should get out of the Tower more often, if only for few hours. The Rose and the Lion was not a small in, yet not so big, as well. It had a coziness feeling, at least to Lyla, and the common room, not yet filled the customers she knew would be there by evening, was spotless. There was a group of men playing cards in one side, and another dicing, though, once again, not as much as there would be come evening. The innkeeper, a round woman called Milla Berian, had led them to a table, and sent one of the serving maids to bring them their food. |

Sapphira nodded when Lyla said she knew of a few inns, and let the other woman take the lead. As she walked, she could feel the pressures of the Tower drop away as a trip to the city could never do. Unlikely as it was, her biggest problem lately was her newest mentee, a girl very strong in the Power, but also very much in need of a new attitude. Sapphira was determined to succeed with the girl, but she anticipated that it would take a very long while before the girl was put through the Arches, though she was already quite proficient in the Power. Sapphira shook the thought off, there was no need to ruin her good day with thoughts of that Light-forsaken Naishee. She looked over the inn Lyla chose, the outside looked quite tidy, as all those in the Inner City did. It was not a large one, but Sapphira knew that the odds of being recognized were better in a larger inn. She follwed the Keeper through the door, and looked around at the clean, cozy inn. There were a few tabes occupied, but the lunch hour had not yet really come. The innkeeper walked over, talking quickly, as all innkeepers tend to do, and showed Lyla and Sapphira to a table well away from the gambling men. Sapphira sat silently, she could wait to pick up conversation until after someone came with their meals. She did not have long to wait, only a few moments later, a serving girl came out with a tray of steaming food, all looking quite lovely. Sapphira thanked the girl, and gave her a gold mark, which she tucked into the bodice of her dress. When the girl had walked away a few steps, Sapphira took a sip of her wine, and picked up her fork. She had never visited this particular inn before, and was pleasantly surprised by the taste of her meal. It certainly measured up to the Towers' standards, which, for Aes Sedai and Asha'man, were among the best in the land. After a few bites, Sapphira looked across the table at Lyla, and decided that now was as good a time as any for conversation. They were not here only to eat, after all, that would be boring. "This was a lovely choice of inn, Lyla," she said with a smile for the other woman. She glanced around the room again, it was quite a good one, she would have to remember this if she ever came to Caemlyn in disguise again. Of course, coming to Caemlyn as Amyrlin, she had very little choice but to stay in the palace, or risk severely slighting the Queen. She liked staying there anyway, so she would never turn it down. Once in a while, though, there was certainly something quite wonderful about being out of the Tower as an average person. Not as Aes Sedai, and certainly not as Amyrlin Seat. She had not been such a person since she was sixteen years old. By now, of course, she was used to her life, but sometimes even now, well over a hundred years later, she missed her old life just being a normal person. She was very glad she ahd thought of coming here today. |
