It was afternoon and her morning practice was over long ago. The morning had mostly consisted of running, strength and targeting. As well as practicing the Ko'Di. As long as she sat still she could keep that now... but it had been made clear it wasn't enough. She knew it to, but the way she had been told didn't make her feel like her progress was anything to be joyful about. Right now she was annoyed, beating up a doll with a wooden practice sword to train the movements she had been instructed on for the last few days. She was a bit harsher on the task then usual as she was letting her anger out. She knew very well that she was here and allowed to stay because she learned and did as she was told. But sometimes she just longed to break the rules. The first few months here she hadn't really felt that it was a thing she'd ever think about she had after all come here to get away from rule breaking, now she was beginning to understand all those novices, soldiers and recruits a lot more.

A yell from the Youngling supervising told the recruits to take a break. He walked by Nevira as she turned to walk off the training yard and he gave her a warning look. She so hated that man. He was the one who had wanted to take her knifes away.
Once off the practice yard Nevira let herself collapse on her back after throwing the wooden thing down beside where she would be laying. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly, folding her hands over her head to block out the sun. It wasn't a very hot day, but Nevira didn't like the sun shining directly into her eyes anyway. Laying there the anger slowly subsided. Her body felt a little heavy in places, a remnant from this mornings strength exercises, Nevira had never been strong in the sense of lifting things, she used techniques and speed along with her agility to do what she did. Strength was a second hand thing. Now though she needed it, a lot, and she didn't much like it. Perhaps that had been the reason why that Greens Warders wanted Arvance and not her. But then why would the Green have asked her to come? Nevira had no idea, she didn't care much now as the youngling once more called on their attention.

Rising and picking up the wooden thing again she walked on to the practice yard finding herself face to face with a bunch of dedicated. Nevira gave the youngling a just as question-filled expression as the rest of the group. The youngling announced. "You will be training with these Dedicated now, par up, I don't want to see any recruits fighting on their own, and no Dedicated doing the same. Georan Gaidin will be here in a while to supervise, but for now get going, spread out and start off with basic exercises!" With those words the recruits turned to look at the dedicated. Nevira didn't move when the first recruits did though. Some dedicated did move in her direction, but other female recruits intercepted them. She looked around, hoping to find a face at least somewhat familiar.

Edeleas opened his eyes and slowly got up, and the first sight to greet him was the seemingly endless array of beds in the Infirmary. A Yellow Sister was present, and seeing that he was awake, she immediately glided toward him and Delved. She smiled afterward.

"You may go now." She said in heavy Taraboner accents. "It's been a week since you've been landed here, and it fresh air for you. Go on. But I want you back here tonight. You aren't fully well yet. And that means you will have no classes and chores either."

Edeleas nodded weakly and got to his feet. His knees wobbled slightly. He could not believe that a week ago a bad bout of flu got him, and the next thing he knew he was lying here in the Infirmary like a vegetable. Still he thanked the Yellow Sister and promised he'd be back before walking slowly toward the Tower Grounds.

The gardens were empty, as most still had classes. Edeleas wandered to the Gaidin Yard, hoping to watch some of the Warders practice with their sword. He still felt frail, but he knew he could do something. A bunch of Dedicated were there. Edeleas coughed and secretly joined the group. Nobody will notice...

He glanced around and saw a Recruit who had been in one of his classes. He smiled at her, hoping she didn't recognize his sickly look. He didn't want to be kicked back to Infirmary.

One of the dedicated suddenly caught her eye, a blond guy with a smile on his face looking at her. Edeleas... she thought, remembering his class on Daes Dae'mar. On quick feet she made her way over to the dedicated. "Do you already have a partner?" She asked. Hoping he didn't. She didn't one of the other dedicated, even from a distance. At least Edeleas had seemed relatively nice.... or at least he displayed it that way, which made her think he would continue to do so.

"No, and I would be happy to pair up with you." Edeleas said with a small cough. Nevira gave him a small smile and gave him the wooden sword she held and gestured towards the field. "You find us a spot I'll go get an other 'sword'." And with those words she walked off towards where she got the last one.

Taking a new one out of the shack she quickly returned and found Edeleas at a spot that wasn't to crowded. He had certainly done this before and Nevira wasn't surprised. The man was after all dedicated. After a slight bow Nevira rose her sword to get into a defense position. The first position, her feet firmly in a balanced position and the tip of her sword raised in front of her face. From here it was easy to either block or attack. "Lets get started then" Nevira said trying her best to get to the Ko'Di but eventually giving it up as she wasn't succeeding. She'd have to practice that some other time.

Edeleas obeyed when Nevira told him to get a spot. He found one easily, one he always liked because nearly nobody watched him as he practiced. A faint blush warmed his cheeks. He was awfully stupid with the Sword. Rishid once joked that he would be easy to kill as an Asha'man. He grew nervous at the thought.

Weighing the wooden sword in his hands, and Edeleas grasped it firmly. He had learned the basics, of course, now that he was Dedicated. He would fight with all his best for Nevira, so as not to insult her, but he came close to ever harming her, he would stop. And then she came back, holding another sword for her usage. She quickly positioned herself.

"Let's get started then," she said.

Edeleas quickly launched into a quick succesion of attacks, delivered smoothly and fluidly, in that wolfen grace the Warders taught. His moves awfully reminded him of a dance. Ringing clacks now pervaded the air, and Edeleas did not give the Recruit any loophole at all to attack back. He attacked furiously, now making her retreat in speed.

He imagined the Yellow Sister seeing what he was doing. Surely she woudl explode and drag him back to the Infirmary by his ears. Edeleas laughed, but the laugh instead turned into a cough. He cursed his burning throat and lungs.

Nevira almost regretted saying that as Edeleas launched at her. Hadn't she been so swift on her feet she would have been down in seconds. Edeleas had had far more training then her and she just barely was able to block most his attacks. Some did hit her, and she felt the pain but she knew that it was nothing to do about it. She had to keep going. Retreating, backwards, in a half circle, Nevira suddenly noticed that Edeleas coughed, an opening presented itself and Nevira took it. Swinging her sword she hit his shoulder, then dropped, kicking his legs out from under him. Falling flat on his back Nevira quickly got up and placed her 'sword'tip against his throat, marking his defeat, and the end of this round.

Taking her sword away she looked down at Edeleas with a thoughtful expression. She reached down to give him a hand up. "How come you coughed?" The words had just left her lips as Edeleas grabbed her hand, pulled and she stumbled over him, making her roll on her back and up on her feet. Her sword still in hand. She turned only to see Edeleas back on his feet. Perhaps she had only been imagining his weakness... he was a lot better then her with the sword anyway.

"Fine, ready for an other go?" Nevira said, regretting it once more as Edeleas came at her again. Light, when will I learn? She thought retreating and doing her best to avoid his blows. A crack in the ground she missed noticing made her stumble. She rolled backwards but, a blow to her chest made the energy to pull round and get on her feet again disappear. Clamping her teeth together to avoid showing her pain as she laid on her back she only waited for Edeleas to mark round two finished. Blood and bloody ashes!

Bloody throat! Edeleas thought angrily as pain exploded from his shoulder, where Nevira hit him. Blood and bloody ashes - aack! Her legs slammed into his own, thus destroying his balance. Edeleas gritted his teeth as whirlwinds of color spiraled in his eyes as he landed hard on the ground. His head seemed to vibrate and ring like a gong, and it did nothing to help. He wanted to sick up, and he felt something bitter in his mouth. But he swallowed hard.

He looked up at Nevira, aware of her swordtip on his neck. He canted his head to one side, looking at her. She was good. Or maybe he was just very stupid. Either way, they were both doing well. At least I sensed some improvement in me. Edeleas thought. "How come you coughed?" Nevira asked. Edeleas did not bother to answer. He quickly grabbed her by the hand, and, shifting all of his weight, he flung her above him, and there was a second thud as she hit the ground. Edeleas quickly leapt to his feet and grabbed his sword.

"Fine, ready for another go?" she said.

Oh yes. I would very much like to have another go. Edeleas answered mentally. He launched himself at her again, in that same, dance-like movement, attacking relentlessly. She stumbled backward, and as she fell Edeleas did not miss the opportunity to deal her another blow. She landed hard again, and this time, he was the one pointing the sword to her neck. He gave her a small smile.

And that was when he coughed again.

He was smiling at her, pointing sword at her neck, but removed it as he coughed again. Standing up she put a hand on his shoulder. "You know, you shouldn't be training if you're sick. You might get worse." Nevira gave him a look that wasn't quite concerned, but more thoughtful, even if there was a hint of concern there. Edeleas ignored it though. "I'm not sick. I can train well, it's just a little cough." He grinned, but Nevira didn't feel all to sure about this. "As you wish..." She said, backing off raising her sword again.

This time she didn't ask for the go, she just waited for Edeleas to seem ready before she attacked. Her first turn to, but after just a few blows and blocks he had the upper hand once more. She cursed in her thoughts as she once again retreated backwards. An getting them turned around, but still with her retreating, Nevira avoided running straight into the fence. What she hadn't noticed was two others backing into their part of the field. After a blocked blow and a few fast steps back she felt a blow to the back of her head and stopped bent forward. Jikes that hurt. The guy who had done it didn't even react, just kept fighting his opponent cursing Nevira for having gotten in the way. Edeleas had already stopped and now walked up to the guys poking the one who had cursed on his shoulder. With a cold voice he said "Apologize." Ducking though the guy ignored Edeleas as his opponent didn't stop fighting the man for a second.

Trying to avoid trouble Nevira put a hand on Edeleas shoulder again. "Don't worry, I'll deal with that later, out of sight of the younglings..." She leaned her head in the direction of a pare standing by the fence watching and waiting for their master to arrive and train them. "I'm fine, I have suffered worse."

Edeleas gently pried off Nevira's hands from his shoulder. The guys ignored him. The nerve! He gripped his sword hard, silent anger throbbing in him, wanting to get out. He raised his sword high and whacked the guy hard with it, actually making him howl. Silence rapidly descended in the practice yard.

"I said apologize." Edeleas repeated, his voice quivering with rage. "Now."

The offending Recruit eyed him askance, but the cheeky fellow was too scared to talk for now. After all, he had the One Power in his side. Edeleas pointed his sword at the Recruit's face.

"Didn't you hear me? I said apologize." He said quietly.

Blood and bloody ashes!! Nevira thought as Edeleas whacked the guy across the back. The howl sending off a silence across the yard. Nevira wanted to sink into the ground she'd be so scolded for this later. "I said apologize." Edeleas repeated, his voice quivering with rage. "Now." Nevira noticed how angry he was and just couldn't understand it. He didn't know her in the least and still he did this. Why is he so bloody angry, it wasn't he who got whacked...? Nevira frowned slightly as the recruit eyed Edeleas, he didn't dare to speak though. Most of the recruits didn't quite have the guts to stand up to a channeler, herself included. Edeleas pointed the wooden sword at the recruits face, drawing his eyes to the tip. "Didn't you hear me? I said apologize."

Nevira didn't know what to do, the people who had looked over at them where continuing on their own things except for the recruits and dedicated in their group. The Gaidin still hadn't arrived and that was quite good. How much trouble would they all be in if he was?

The recruit hit Edeleas sword aside, anger rising in side him apparently. "Why should I apologize? I can't help if she got in my way. I have to defend myself you know." Nevira gave of a silent snort. That blow had been an attack not defense, but he had a point in a way. Even if he should have kept on his own turf or kept a look out once he left it. "Besides, a girl has nothing to do on a training field." The last made Neviras own anger blast right out inside of her. All the annoyance during the day, the pain making her head pulsate. Hadn't Edeleas already been standing there she would have hit the guy already. "At least not one who has to hide behind a channeler to deal with her own concerns." The recruit added, giving Edeleas a mocking frown and a small bow. "Now if you'll excuse me, we all have training to attend to."

Edeleas' face was expressionless as the Recruit batted his sword aside. "Why should I apologize? I can't help if she got in my way. I have to defend myself you know. Besides, a girl has nothing to do on a training field. At least not one who has to hide behind a channeler to deal with her own concerns. Now if you'll excuse me, we all have training to attend to."

Another time, when I am not feeling too weak, I could have wrapped him with Air and bounced him all the way around the yard and - Edeleas' jaw was set. He could not stand mocking idiots, much more who did not apologize for something that was clearly their fault. He had seen how the brat dealt the blow - it was intentional, that was clear, and he didn't even bat an eyelash at the thought of hitting a girl. The space in the yard was huge, he knew it, and they were all here sharing it, but at least, if he were the Recruit, he could have let his opponent hit him instead rather than hit a girl from his path as if she had been an animal.

Gradually they all returned to their training. Edeleas took Nevira aside, a little farther from everyone else, where they continued parrying, albeit gently now. He still coughed, and it was getting louder. Nevira was now frowning with concern, but Edeleas gave her an assuring smile as they exchanged blows and defended themselves from one another. The Gaidin still had not arrived.

After a few more minutes of parrying, Edeleas and Nevira sat down to rest. Edeleas ran a hand through his slick hair, panting heavily. The Yellow Sister wouldn't be to happy when she saw him, that was for sure. Afterward they both stood up and resumed training again. Twice more Nevira managed to kick his legs from underneath him, but thrice Edeleas flung her off and pointed his sword to her neck.

That was when a blow hit him from the back, almost knocking him off his feet. Edeleas whipped around to see the Recruit, now dueling away with whoever his partner was. Unfortunately, he didn't wipe his arrogant smile off his ratty face quick enough. Edeleas touched saidin, deftly weaving flows of Air that he hurled to the annoying brat. The Recruit's arms snapped to his side, his sword clattering to the floor as Edeleas lifted him high. He opened his mouth but Edeleas quickly stuffed a gag of Air between his teeth.

"Now you, are going way too far." Edeleas said in a hushed voice.

Edeleas did back down though. Nevira was mad now, her head still pounding and she felt like attacking the man on the spot. She couldn't though, and Edeleas turned her attention away taking her off a bit so they could return to their training. The practicing continued, Nevira had to work hard at all times with Edeleas being so much better then her. At least she was learning.
Twice she managed to knock him over, three times he had her on the ground, or disarmed. Edeleas cough and breath was getting deeper and heavier. Nevira was getting worried, but he assured her it was nothing and she was quickly forced to think on defense instead. Suddenly Edeleas stumbled. Nevira looked over his shoulder as Edeleas whipped around only to see that bloody recruit again. Anger flared up inside of Nevira, but Edeleas was quick. Nevira had no idea what he did, but the recruits arms locked against his sides, his sword clattering to the ground, and as he tried to speak he couldn't, not a word. "Now you, are going way too far." Edeleas said in a hushed voice.

Nevira almost felt panic rush in side her. She wasn't particularly fond of the One power, it was odd, strange and beyond her capabilities. It scared her. At the same time she herself had a wish to strangle this guy, and thought he deserved anything he got.
She didn't have to think for long. A man came up behind them, wearing the obvious mark of a Gaidin, the cloak. "Dedicated, would you care to explain what is going on here and let go of the recruit?" The man said in a cold voice. The man sounded and looked as a rock, a cold rock. Nevira stiffened, then stood alert, in case she needed to speak. Now it would come, their punishment and an other reason to scare that recruit out of his living wits once she had a chance.

Edeleas frowned as he released the Recruit and launched into an explanation of what had happened. The Gaidin listened thoughtfully, and after Edeleas stopped explaining (which took a long time because of his coughing), the man rounded on Nevira and the offending Recruit. He did not give chances for further protests and explanations.

"You two will go to Kiren Gaidin," the man instructed. "But you will be asking for punishment," he snapped at the ratty-faced Recruit. "Well? Do I need to show you two where to go?"

Nevira shot one final look toward Edeleas before she left. Now the Gaidin turned to Edeleas. "You are Dedicated, and responsibility of the Black Tower, but I will not have you manhandling Recruits while in the Hall of Valor! To the Master of Soldiers with you!"

Edeleas turned without saying anything else and returned his wooden sword to the rack and traced the familiar steps to the Master of Soldier's office. The Yellow Sister wouldn't be too happy when she saw him.
