Name: Karena Tomika Age: 16 Nationality: Altara Appearance: Blonde hair, Hazel eyes Height: 5’6” Personality: She is outgoing, friendly and easily trusting of others. Has a high sense of honor. Quick to start a fight if she thinks someone is being disrespectful. Bio: Karena Tomika grew up in an inn in the city of Ebou Dar. Karena’s father, Thomas, died when she was only nine years old. That day was one she would never forget. Her mother had stormed down the stairs with fury written all over her face. Anger shown in her eyes as she glared directly at the man sitting besides the fireplace. Her mothers loud stomping down the stairs had caused Karena to turn around and see what was wrong. The first thing that caught her eye was her mother’s marriage knife. The dagger was sheathed in a white covering. Confusion had rushed through her mind at the site. Her father was still alive, he was sitting beside the fireplace. The thought struck her mind that her father might be ill. Women had been known to sheath their knife in white when their husband was on the brink of death. The look in her mother’s eyes as she glared at her father told her otherwise. “You have displeased me.” was all her mother said in a voice cold as ice as she withdrew her marriage dagger and thrust it into her husband’s heart. He had not even tried to defend himself. Tomas, like all Alteran men made a promise the day he got married. Where he to break that promise he would have been considered dishonorable, and been killed by other citizens. Karena had since then found out that her father had been unfaithful to her mother. That day had been the day her mother discovered it. Her mother wore a white sheath for a week before switching to a blue on, the sign of a widow looking for a new husband. After her father’s death her mother ran the inn with the aid of Karena and her older brother, Will. Karena did all sorts of jobs at the inn, everything from cooking to cleaning to waiting tables. Her brother dealt with the upkeep and maintenance of the inn. Her mom ran the business and took care of the financial aspect along with many other things. Together they made the business flourish. Travelers from all over the land would rest on their journeys and stay at the inn. Karena found it fascinating to learn about the different countries and their culures. She would try and finish her chores quickly so she could talk with the costomers. Karena was quick to make friends, and the customers would soon tell her stories of their land and ways of life. Karena was so fascinated by the stories that she soon grew a desire to travle and see them herself. The only thing that held her back from leaving Ebou Dar was her mother and the in. Her mother would not be able to support the inn on herown so Karena was forced to stay. Her brother, Will, was three years older than herself. Will was very protective over his little sister. Her often entered many duel because of her. If Will thought a man was looking at his sister the wrong way, he would draw his dagger. Will got himself into many duels being over protective of Karena. Although Will fought many battles for her, she was not in the least bit helpless. Karena was almost as quick to draw a dagger as her brother. Her brother and mom both insured that Karena had skills to defend herself. Her mother taught her how to use a dagger to defend herself and her brother taught her the basics of swordmanship. Will was nowhere near as skilled as a Master Bladesman, but he was a little more knowledgeable than many of the local citizens. Karena loved practicing swordmanship with her brother and would spend hours learning from him. She never became truly skilled with it, but she soon spent all her time either at the inn or practicing with the sword. When Karena was fourteen, an Aes Sedai and her warder came to stay at the inn. Karena and Will were overjoyed that a real warder was in town and at their inn. They had both heard of Warder’s legendary skills as warriors and couldn’t wait to see for themselves. Whenever they could find the time, Karena and her brother would sneak out and watch him practice. They would try to stay hidden, so as not to bother or annoy the warder, but he always knew they were there. One day he had smiled in the spot they were “hiding” and told them to come out. He didn’t mind them watching. The warder smiled at them both and asked to see how skilled they were. Karena grinned at her brother and ran into the house to get her sword. When she fought the warder he easily deflected every move she made. He stood their only blocking her moves for a while and then he raised his own sword in an offensive attack. He made on swift movement and knocked the sword from her hand and stopped his own sword inches away from her neck. Karena just smiled in amazement and rambled on about how amazing his techniques were. She told him how she wished she could be half that good. The last day at the inn he told both children about the tower and that they could both learn some of the skills he had if they traveled their. He said he saw a potential in both of them. Will thought the warder was just humoring them and thought nothing of the compliment. Karena , however, took the Warder’s words seriously. All she could think about was becoming a Gaidar someday. She would lay awake at night and just dream of going to Tar Valon. Over the night couple of years business at the inn grew even more, and her brother got married. His new wife also helped with the inn. The inn gained enough money to afford hiring more workers. The inn would be able to support itself without Karena helping. Noticing this Karena had nothing holding her back from leaving. She said good-by to her friends and family and left for Tar Valon to fulfill her dreams of being Gaidar. |

I like the story, and it does explain why she came to the Tower. My thing with it is that I think you could word yourself a little better. But that comes with time I know (needs to fix her own bio for the same reasons) So I will go ahead and approve you. |
