Head of the White Ajah/Shadow

Name: Brietta Laetre Age: 160 Origin: Murandy Height: 5’3” or 160 cm Weight: 118 pounds or 53.5 kg Hair: Straight blonde, long Eyes: Light brown Personality: Very White, she relies on logic more than anything else, and her own more than anyone else's. Demands respect from those below her. Often skeptical of the Tower, and people of authority. Skeptical of those allied with the Light, she sees little logic in it, and to her the Shadow makes much more sense. Brietta has a mind of her own, she has never been afraid of her opinion or what she thinks is right, even if others disagree. She is loyal to her causes and sticks to what she believes, regardless of whether it makes sense to others. As long as it is a logical choice for her, that is all she needs. After 133 years as Aes Sedai, she has learned exactly the advantages she has and is not afraid to use them. She knows where she stands in the ranks of other sisters in the Power, and as Head of the White is a capable leader. She does not shy away from difficult tasks or people if they are what she needs to achieve her ends, and she is very independent. Brietta is slow to trust in general, and even when she is in a position to where she needs to trust someone, or they have earned some measure of trust, she is still very self-contained. She dislikes the need to rely upon someone else, and does not like for people to know more about her or her life than they need to, even if it is someone she thinks she can trust. Knowledge is power, and she does not want to share the power she has gained with anyone. By nature, Brietta is distrustful of authority and does not like to be told what to do. This, along with her aspirations in the Shadow, was a major reason she sought to become First Reasoner, that way at least no one in the White can tell her what to do. From those who do have authority over her, Brietta will typically only obey a very direct, specific order, unless the order suits her own plans. After the life she has led, Brietta cannot imagine not living a life based in logic. As such, she is very biased toward the White Ajah. She cares little what anyone outside of her Ajah has to say, viewing it as ill-considered and illogical most of the time. Even if she agrees, she rarely gives the speaker credit for their idea, considering it pure luck that someone so disorganized and unmethodical could have come up with something that makes good sense. Even within the Shadow to an extent, Brietta is biased toward members of her Ajah. One Power: Began channeling at 14 Raised to Aes Sedai at 27 Base Strength: 40 (+7 as a novice, +6 as Accepted, +37 years of channeling to reach full strength) Current Strength: 90 (Strong) -Fire: 8/10 -Water: 9/10 -Air: 7/10 -Spirit: 6/10 -Earth: 4/10 Talents: Milking Tears, Listening to the Wind, Inverting History: Brietta was the daughter of a Murandian clocksmith, she never knew her mother, as the woman had died from complications while giving birth to Brietta. Both of her older siblings, a brother and a sister, blamed Brietta for it and never accepted her as a sister. Brietta's father, though, cherished her, and often favored her over his other two children. If anything, that estranged her from her siblings even more, because of their unconcealed jealousy. Brietta's father apparently did not miss his wife much, it did not take him long to find other women to take her place in the bed, usually only for one or two nights. Brietta's siblings were upset by this, but as Brietta knew no different, it bothered her very little, causing even further problems within the family. The family was pitted against itself, father and youngest daughter against older brother and sister. Brietta hated the separation, but as she grew up she also grew into it, and her truest joys came from proving to her siblings that she was not just a stupid child. As soon as she could talk, she could also argue. She needed an edge, though, something her older siblings did not have, and something big. Finally, she chose that instead of arguing as such, she would use cool truth and a bit of logic to show her family up. It worked, the siblings, so used to shouting, were stunned by the seven year old's coolness. Try as they would to bait her, by the time she was nine she never took it. It infuriated them, but Brietta's father was truly proud of her. That only made her siblings angrier, but now Brietta was not bothered by their anger, it was far too common to be a problem. When Brietta was fourteen, her siblings finally boiled over, they decided- in true Murandian fashion -that violence was the answer. When their father was out, they attacked their little sister, and got a real surprise. As her brother produced a knife from his sleeve, and her sister stood behind with another, Brietta panicked. What could she do? They were both older than she, and could easily overpower her. She got an odd sensation, she could not have said what it was, but the results were undeniable. Both brother and sister were shoved against the far wall, unable to move a muscle. Both had fear written clearly across their faces, and Brietta was surprised, the sensation ended abruptly, and the siblings fell away from the wall. Instead of attacking her, though, they ran from the house quickly. Brietta sat down hard on the floor and considered. Her long use of logic had transferred from being only used in arguments to being included in the rest of her life. Something strange had happened, and Brietta was going to figure out what it could have been. Before she got the chance, though, there was a knock on the door. Brietta wondered, and curiosity got the better of her, she cracked the door open, and gasped at what she saw. Standing outside was the most commanding woman Brietta had ever seen. She was not pretty, really, but she had an air about her, even just standing there, that left Brietta in awe. Her hair was long and white, but her face was smooth, and Brietta could not determine her age. "Do not stand there staring child, let me in," she said sternly, and Brietta jumped, but complied quickly. The woman said that she was an Aes Sedai and that she had just arrived in the town. She told Brietta that she had felt someone channel saidar, and she knew there were no other Aes Sedai in this little town, barely big enough to support a clocksmith, even located on the main road as it was. Brietta shuffled guiltily and mumbled the story of what happened. The Aes Sedai only nodded, and told Brietta that she would be returning to the Tower with her in only a few hours' time. Brietta was shocked and frightened, but the woman's air said she had no say in the matter. The woman left, saying she had things to attend to, but would be back, and as she closed the door behind the woman, Brietta felt tears threaten, and under that anger. This woman thought she could just come in here and tell Brietta that she was leaving? Not that she would miss her siblings, but she had a life here! There was a boy down the street who found her fascinating, and she was not at all opposed to the idea of having a husband and family. She refused to let herself cry, she knew her siblings would take advantage of any weakness, but what if she did not see them before she left? She occupied her mind by packing, and was surprised when her family- all three of them together -came home. She told them what happened, and only her father seemed upset. The siblings seemed as though they could not decide between happiness of having her gone or jealousy that she was having an adventure and they were not. When the Aes Sedai arrived again later, Brietta went with her quietly, with a hug only for her father. Brietta told the woman she had no horse, but was silenced when the woman led her around a corner to two waiting horses. Over the next month they traveled hard, and Brietta learned all she could about the Tower. The woman's name was Lereja Sedai, of the Blue Ajah. She explained some about saidar, and the Tower, but mostly just pressed Brietta to ride faster, be quiet, get some sleep, or eat something. After a frustrating month of travel during which she had no choice but to obey, they came to Tar Valon, which awed Brietta more than her young mind could comprehend. Brietta had her name entered into the Novice Book, and began her life in the Tower. As a novice, she learned quickly all she could about saidar, and put herself entirely into her studies, eventually growing accustomed to the servant-like life of a novice. She made few good friends, her siblings' attitudes having made her afraid of getting to know anyone. She learned about each of the Ajahs, and was immediately drawn to the White, their logic and separation from others appealed to her quite strongly. She did not mind novice life, the chores were tedious, but the future looked bright. As a novice, Brietta discovered the Black Ajah, and six months after joining the Tower, officially became a part of that secret society. After seven years in novice white, Brietta was called to the Three Arches. She made her way through, but only just. Her first reaction was to hate the Tower, but after that decided that there was no way she would let that terrible experience be pointless. She began to work more with the White Ajah, and learned even more strongly that the White was the only possibility for her future. She pushed herself through her studies, both with saidar and others. The Whites trained her in how to see and apply logic, her personal teaching from childhood helped, but she learned that much of what she had always done was not as efficient or useful as many things the Whites could teach. Even so, she continued to learn quickly and was called to her testing after only six years as Accepted. She chose the White, as everyone had known she would, and found that she still had very much to learn. Her first finding was that she stood higher in the Power than most others once she reached her full potential, something she knew would be very useful. Brietta put herself into her work right away, and quickly earned respect among the Aes Sedai. She continued her life as a loner, never bothering to converse unless necessary. She made few friends, and was completely content as such. Seventy two years after earning her white-fringed shawl, she was summoned to represent her Ajah in the Hall. She accepted, not surprised at the decision. She knew she was respected among the White sisters, but although she did not think she was known for having a diplomatic personality, she knew that she was a logical choice. She became a Sitter, and represented her Ajah as she saw fit, and occasionally as her White sisters instructed her, and used all the logic at her disposal to make the best decisions possible. Throughout the years she Sat in the Hall, and earned a position of respect within the Towers and the Hall. When she had represented her Ajah for forty three years, the Head of the White Ajah retired to the Kin. In their need for a new leader, the Whites immediately turned to Brietta. This was what she had been working for. She was determined to be a powerful woman in the Towers, first the Hall, now the White Ajah, next she was determined to lead the Black Ajah and the Shadow within the Tower. She was approved, and became the Head of the White Ajah, while retaining her title as Sitter. It was logical, after all, to have all the best minds in the Hall, and the Whites were sure Brietta could handle the demands of both positions. About the same time as her appointment of Head of the White, Nelen Sairo, the leader of the Shadow in the Towers, died. Or was killed, as Brietta thinks more likely, the Shadow killed her for its own good. She was summoned to Tel'Aran'Rhiod, and during a painful meeting, was appointed to be the new Head of the Black. She is grateful for the new opportunity, and glad of a step up in the ranks of the Black. She hopes to change the Shadow in the Tower to make it much more efficient and effective than ever before. She ran the White Ajah, and represented the Whites in the Hall, the merging of positions became easier the longer she held them. At first, it was taxing for her to perform all the duties required of her, but she has learned more efficiency, and has grown into her positions of authority, learning how to make use of them. She worked toward forwarding both the White Ajah and the Shadow's causes, both when they coincided, and the Shadow's when they did not, while of course maintaining the illusion that she worked only for the White. Her biggest obstacle was the Red Shen, she had to be very careful to avoid their notice, and has so far succeeded. As far as she knows, no one has any reason to suspect her of being a part of the Shadow, and she intends to keep it that way. Some years after she was appointed First Reasoner, Brietta was given reason to both celebrate and worry when the Golden Alliance, led by one of the Forsaken, declared war on the Alliance of Four and Tar Valon. Brietta did not want to see the end of the Towers unless it meant the end of the Light as well. Besides, she had to keep up the illusion that she was not a Darkfriend if she wanted to retain her life and her position. It was a difficult balance to juggle, though the existence of damane helped hide the presence of Aes Sedai fighting on the side of the Forsaken. Brietta, as First Reasoner, was considered too important to be involved in many battles, so she was rarely required to fight on the side of the Light- just enough to ensure that the other Ajahs would not be able to deduce that she was the Ajah Head by her constant presence in the Tower. Not that they were likely to notice something like that, but Brietta though it better to be cautious. Finally, the Golden Alliance was defeated, and Brietta attended all the feasts and celebrations just as Aes Sedai were expected to, but in her heart, she never celebrated. The Shadow had lost, and it had been a major blow to her cause. Still, she considers it the most logical choice, and even if she did not, it would certainly not be logical to try to extricate herself from the Shadow now. She remains unwaveringly loyal to the Great Lord, and although the War was lost, the Great Lord still works, and Brietta still works to expand his influence in the Towers. She knows that if she can infiltrate the Towers well enough and quietly enough, they can take over the world and prepare it for the day the Great Lord is freed. Brietta, as all the servants of the Great Lord, works toward the Great Lord’s goals and the slow, patient destruction of the Light. She has many of her own agendas as well, her life cannot be completely taken over with the Black Ajah, although much of it is. Though she has been a member of the secret Ajah longer than her public one, and considers herself a Black before a White, though Brietta still works toward widening the White Ajah's influence in the Tower and the world. By her own logic, this also widens the Black's influence, for she, the most powerful of the Whites, is also a Black. She has long since learned how to juggle her personal life, her life as a White, and her life as a Black, both intertwining them, and keeping them completely separate. She has had 133 years' experience as Aes Sedai, and so is quite sure of herself. Although she still very much dislikes being in the company of other people, she will put up with it if it is absolutely necessary. |
