It¡¯s clear from the above description that New Balance 580 Pas Cher Nike is not marketing this as a minimalist running shoe (maybe they should ¨C we¡¯ll see), but the Vibram Fivefingers also began their life as a water sports shoe, so who knows, maybe these will do the trick. Given that these are half the price of most Vibrams, and a third of the price of shoes like the remarkably expensive Terra Plana EVO ($160.00 for a minimalist shoe???), it would be great if they represented another alternative to what¡¯s currently out there for minimalist runners. Check back here in a few weeks and I should hopefully have a preliminary review posted (if I don¡¯t, it¡¯s likely because my wife strangled me for bringing yet another pair of shoes into the house!). In the meantime, if you just can¡¯t wait to try them yourself, here are a few links to where they can be purchased:

Some are going to hate what Altra has done to The One, but I for one really like the One2. It¡¯s the first Altra shoe that I¡¯d truly consider for a marathon distance race, and it combines softness New Balance 999 Pas Cher and flexibility in a way that I have yet to see in any other Altra (I haven¡¯t yet tried the Instinct 2.0).

Yesterday I wrote a post on the current state of the running shoe market. One of the things that is clear from sales data is that the ¡°lightweight¡± shoe category is growing rapidly, and is starting to eat away at the traditional neutral-stability-motion control categories. Thus, it comes as no surprise that Asics, who have been slow to embrace the minimalist trend, are now releasing a lightweight (8.6 oz in men¡¯s 9), 6mm drop running shoe called the Asics Gel Lyte33 (see photo below from Running Warehouse).

The tagline that New Balance has chosen in marketing the Fresh Foam is ¡°Experience the Science of Soft.¡± This suggests that the shoe is going to offer a cushy ride, and it has resulted in some people (probably me included) thinking that the shoe is New Balance¡¯s answer to maximalist running. In fairness, New Balance would probably not agree with this positioning, and on their product page for the Fresh Foam they do say ¡°With a lower midsole for a more natural underfoot feel, the Fresh Foam is incredibly soft yet stable¡¡± So is it soft and cushy? Maximal? Natural?

I was a bit worried at first that the One2 would feel mushy on the run. They don¡¯t, they actually feel pleasantly springy, but not in a racing-flat kind of way. More like adidas Boost, Skechers Resalyte (midsole material for the GoRun), or maybe a Brooks DNA-BioMogo blend midsole. They feel softer when walking than when running. The midsole is composed of a blend of EVA and new balance u420 Pas Cher Altra A-Bound (latter is the stuff from the sole of the Altra Instinct), and I¡¯m wondering if this combo is what gives the shoe it¡¯s cushy yet somewhat springy feel.

The new upper is lighter and more breathable, both also big pluses. Asics has done away with the stitched-on overlays from v2 and replaced them with welded overlays, and this makes for a much lighter and more minimally structured upper. The shoe also has no plastic heel counter, so it¡¯s one that I often recommend to people who have insertional Achille New Balance Femme Pas Cher s tendon pain (sometimes a hard heel counter can aggravate this).
