The Galactic Civil War; Faction vs Faction

The Galactic Civil War is the conflict raging between the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic. These are the two Factions at the start of the game who are vying for power in the galaxy. Each faction controls planets, as shown on the Galactic Map in the Power Rankings topic, and those planets have a certain amount of Control Points. The more Control Points a faction has on a planet, the more secure their hold over that planet is. Battles will occur regularly as both Factions move their forces around and launch attacks on different planets. Victory in battle by the attacking Faction results in a battle-dependent loss of Control Points by the defending Faction. If the defending Faction's Control Points are ever reduced to 0, the victorious Faction is rewarded with 5 Control Points and control of the Planet. Victory in battle by the defending Faction results in 50% of the battle-dependent Control Points being awarded to the defenders. The number of Control Points being contested is calculated by determining the number of Player participants at the start of the battle and dividing by 4, then calculating in how many Players of the defeated side were incapacitated during the battle. The final number is the number of Control Points contested, up to 10 at a time. If a Faction deploys forces to a Neutral world, a roll is conducted taking into account the current power of the Faction, the presence of surrounding Faction-aligned planets, as well as 1 Hidden Factor for each planet. If successful, the planet accepts the Faction and 5 CP is given. If it fails, the planet fights back, and the Faction must fight a battle against an insurgent population. If they are victorious, they gain 2 CP. If they fail, they must move off the world and any further attempts to take over suffer an additional negative modifier.

If one faction ever controls no planets on the Galactic Map, their faction is defeated and their members are disbanded to Neutral affiliation.

Joining a Faction has various benefits for players. They receive a salary based on their rank within the faction, as well as free equipment awarded for reaching certain ranks. The ranks, their requirements for reaching it, and any rewards are listed below for each Faction:


GALACTIC EMPIRE
Private: Entry-level rank. 50 C/ per week
Private First Class: 1 Faction Reputation. SE-14 Blaster Pistol (only if proficient), TIE Fighter (Pilots only), 100 C/ per week
Corporal: 10 Faction Reputation, Level 3. 200 C/ per week
Sergeant: 25 Faction Reputation, Level 7. E-11 Blaster Rifle or DLT-20A Blaster Rifle (only if proficient), TIE Interceptor (Pilots only) 300 C/ per week
Staff Sergeant: 50 Faction Reputation, Level 10. Stormtrooper Armor (counts as Heavy Armor), 500 C/ per week
Master Sergeant: 100 Faction Reputation, Level 14. TIE Defender (Pilots only), 750 C/ per week
Sergeant Major: 175 Faction Reputation, Level 18. 1000 C/ per week

ALLIANCE TO RESTORE THE REPUBLIC
Private: Entry-level rank. 50 C/ per week
Private First Class: 1 Faction Reputation. DL-44 Blaster Pistol (only if proficient), 100 C/ per week
Corporal: 10 Faction Reputation, Level 3. Flak Jacket. 200 C/ per week
Sergeant: 25 Faction Reputation, Level 7. DH-17 Blaster Carbine or A280 Blaster Rifle (only if proficient), A-Wing (Pilots only), 300 C/ per week
Staff Sergeant: 50 Faction Reputation, Level 10. A295 Blaster Carbine (only if proficient), Rebel Body Armor (counts as Light Armor), 500 C/ per week
Sergeant Major: 100 Faction Reputation, Level 14. X-Wing (Pilots only), 1000 C/ per week
Sergeant Major: 175 Faction Reputation, Level 18. 1250 C/ per week

Players who are serving as Leaders within Factions receive the same rewards for reaching certain levels and Faction Reputation, but follow a separate ranking structure that is determined within the Faction.
