The galaxy is a dangerous place, and combat can occur at any time, in any place. Once per day, a player can make an unprovoked, out-of-battle attack on a player on the same planet that they are on. They must message the GM with the distance they wish to conduct the assault from (Short, Medium, Long), and the GM will conduct two rolls. The first is whether or not the defending player realizes something is out of place or not, adding that player's Intelligence modifier; the closer you get to your target, the easier it will be to be detected. If detected, the GM will PM the defending player and ask if they wish to fight the attacking player in self-defense or flee and report them to the authorities. If the target does not notice the player, the GM then conducts a second roll to see if the attack hits. If it does, it automatically scores a critical hit, regardless of whether or not a natural 20 was rolled. Regardless of whether the shot hits or not, the two players enter battle, giving the defending player a chance to defend himself. Whether the target detects the attacker or takes a hit, the battle is worked out as a simple PvP battle. On more heavily-controlled worlds, however, NPC authorities may attempt to intervene to aid the defending player in incapacitating the attacker. If the attacker incapacitates the defender, he may loot the defender for any equipment the defender has as well as a randomly-determined percentage of the player's savings on a credcard, but no more than 3000 C/ or 33%, whichever comes first. Also, at any time the defender may choose to surrender and allow the attacker to rob them of any equipment they have and a randomly-determined percentage of the player's savings, but no more than 3000 C/ or 33%. If the defending player spots the attacker, he may report the attempted attack to the authorities, and the attacker will be Wanted for Attempted Assault, which carries with it a jail time of 2 days. If the defending player is hit by the attacker but then incapacitates the attacker, the attacker is arrested by the authorities and must serve 4 days in jail for Assault. If the defending player is incapacitated, the attacker is Wanted for Attempted Murder, carrying a jail time of 6 days. If the attacker kills the defending player, they are Wanted for Murder, carrying a jail time of 20 days. If the defending player surrenders and allows the attacker to rob him, the attacker is Wanted for Assault and Armed Robbery, carrying a jail time of 4 days plus 1 day for each 1000 C/ stolen. If apprehended by a Bounty Hunter at any time, any stolen equipment or money still in the attacker's possession is confiscated and returned to the original player. If the money has been funneled through other areas, however, such as being used in banking transactions following the robberies, the money cannot be confiscated, although doing so leads to an increased chance of being caught by Bounty Hunters. |
