Purpose The Galactic Union's Space Force (GUSF) was created when the need of the united military was necessary. The ideology of the GUSF was to have one interracial military instead of separate military so that one species could not simply become more powerful then another. Another reason is to spread different members across various ship. If a member of the GU ever tried to go to war they would need the only existing military force which is the GUSF. A species isn't permitted to have it's own military force. Instead they're given a portion of the GUSF to defend their system. Species may try to oppose this but with little success. Currently only Humans and Kriyis have an independent military. The Humans have been strongly against the ideology of the GU while the Kriyis are simply hostile. Recruitment and Training If said individual wishes to join the the GUSF they must first pass training in the various Galactic Union's Military Academies (GUMAs) spread across the GU territories. Nearly every planet has a academy on their planet or a space station nearby with a academy on it. They must be legal age (Young Adult to Adult) to receive training. If the individual is not a GU species they must have a letter from a Lieutenant Commander rank officer or higher who gives them approval to be trained. Afterward the individual is assign to class. The class is taught basic weapons training, ground combat, space combat, history of various species, history of the GU, survival skills, basic flight operations, basic medical skills and so on. Individuals do this for their first half of their first year. Afterward they must choose a department (Science, Medical, Piloting, Etc...). They must take a entrance exam which various from department (Piloting is usually simulated flight combat, Marines is a simulated ground combat, Medical has both a written test and a simulated test and so on). If the individual cannot pass any of the eight department tests, he or she can either forfeit their training and leave the GUSF or join the Services (Individuals may choose to join Services if they desire. This is a popular option for psychics as this department tend to be easier to study while practicing their own psychic lessons). If the individuals passes, he will be train for about one year worth of basic training in all positions of the department. After that said year has pass they may choose a specialty. At this point the duration of training various on the positions. Finally at the end of their last year, the individual must take a final examination test to evaluate them. They are then rank as Recruit Crewman (or Ensign for officers) and can either be requested by a captain (who can determine which recruits they desire based off evaluations) or can request to be recruited on a specific ship (if the captain accepts). If the individual neither request or is requested for, he or she is randomly assign to a ship. Military Ranks Both the GUSF uses military ranking similar to those of the navy. Officers Admiral of the Space Force: Also called Admiral of the SF, it is the highest military rank in the GUSF and there is only one Admiral of the SF at all time. The chosen individuals is often a Admiral who had proven his or her leadership skills in some unnatural act. In the case that their is no outstanding individual during the time of death of the current Admiral of the SF, then instead the Admiral with the most experience and victories is chosen. At all times the Admiral of the SF has total control of the Space Force and all Admirals report under him or her. They only report to the Major Council. The current Admiral of the SF is Rebecca T. Visser, a 74 year old human who has fought during the Slave War and was responsible for liberating most of the enslaved species. Admiral: Admirals are in charge of space fleets. They often have command of around 50 space ships. Admirals are often in command of the capital ship along with the other warships in the center of the fleet. Vice Admiral: Vice Admirals are often second in command of space fleets. They have command of around 25 space ships. Vice Admirals are almost always in command of the ships in the front of the fleet and often lead the assault and are in the most danger. Rear Admiral: Rear Admirals are often third in command of space fleets. They also have command of around 25 space ships. Rear Admirals are almost always in command of the ships in the rear of the fleet and are usually in the least danger. Commodore: Commodores are officers who have the ability to command several ships but may not lead a fleet. They are similar to Read Admirals except they are not eligible to lead a fleet. Captain: Captains are the highest military rank that cannot command several ships. Captains are almost always the officer in command of the most powerful ships in the fleet. Commander: Commanders are usually the officer in command of most ships in the fleet. Lieutenant Commander: Lieutenant Commanders are usually the officer in command of the weakest ships in the fleet. Lieutenant: Lieutenants are the second in command for Captains. Junior Lieutenant: Junior Lieutenants may either serve as third in command for Captains or second in command for Commanders. Ensign: Ensigns either serve as second in command for Commanders, third in command for Lieutenant Commanders or simply as officers in charge of helping the officer in command. Enlisted Senior Petty Officer: Senior Chief Petty Officers are similar to Chief Petty Officers apart from showing outstanding skills. They are often put in charge of more skilled teams. It's a common sight to see a Senior Petty Officer leading only Senior Crewmen. Chief Petty Officer: Chief Petty Officers are non-commission officers who are in charge of their departments. They are the head doctors, head scientist, chief of security, chief engineers, flight leaders and so on. They tend to be the most skill individuals excluding Senior Petty Officers and Senior Crewmen. Petty Officer: Petty Officers are non-commission officers who are in second in command of their departments. They often have one or two Junior Petty Officers working for them. Junior Petty Officer: Junior Petty Officers are non-commission officers who are beginning their training in leading Crewmen. They're often assign to Petty Officers to assist them and learn. Senior Crewman: Senior Crewmen are Crewmen who lack leadership abilities but show outstanding skills. These rank isn't used often as most crewmen would either stay in their ranks or promote to Junior Petty Officer. Often soldiers of this rank are look as masters of their department but either do not wish to lead soldiers or lack the skills for it. Crewman: Crewman work everywhere on the ship. Medical, engineering, pilots, bridge crew, soldiers, security, science and so on. They are the highest military rank that do not have soldiers under their command. Must ships are compose of soldiers of this rank. Apprentice Crewman: Apprentice Crewmen are Crewmen who have around around two to three years of experience in space. Recruit Crewman: Recruit Crewmen are Crewmen who have less then two years experience in space. Uniforms artwork by The Little Boy.
