![]() Title: Halo: Reach Genre: First-Person Shooter Developers: Bungie Platforms: Xbox 360 Release Date: September 14, 2010 This is an opinion based review. I am not a professional critic, nor do I claim to be Review may contain minor spoilers Overview A prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved, making it the first of the four games (Not counting Halo Wars) in the Halo series. Story The game begins with you, Noble 6, joining the rest of Team Noble on a mission. Colonel Holand wants to know why a relay station has gone offline and he is sending your team to find out. You arrive only to discover that the Covenant are to blame for the station going offline. Team Noble heads to "Sword Base", a building belonging to the ONI (Office of Naval Intelligence) to find out why the Covenant were there. A scientist by the name of Catherine Halsey tells you that the Covenant were searching for important information. The Covenant send mass amounts of infantry and resources to support an attack on the planet, and it is Team Noble's job to help evacuate the planet. I feel the story is executed perfectly. It takes everything we've heard about from the later Halo games, and makes it visual. You always had that glimmer of hope that you could win this war, but knew what was to come. Gameplay I will only be taking the campaign and online multiplayer into consideration with my final score. Halo, if you didn't know, is a first person shooter. It has its little differences, like shields, low gravity, vehicle involvement and AI that will insult you, but it's generally your normal first person shooter. Reach has changed things up a little from the previous Halo games. If you've beaten a Halo game before chances are you did it with a buddy. The ability to have three friends play through the campaign with you was always awesome, but at times having four skilled players could make the game pretty easy, even on legendary. Reach has fixed this problem by scaling the difficulty. If there are four players playing through the campaign, the game will be four times as hard. There are new vehicles and guns, but more importantly they have re-added the health bar. Now when your shields are drained your health becomes vulnerable to damage. You can take cover and allow your shields to regenerate, but your health will not regenerate unless you find a first-aid kit. This game also features assassinations. If you can manage to get behind an enemy you can instantly kill him by performing an assassination move. Multiplayer: I feel like multiplayer should have its own little section since it's a huge selling point for this game. The multiplayer is the multiplayer we all know and love, but there are a few changes worth knowing. The experience system has changed a little. You will now be awarded experience even when you lose a game, and you are also given credits which can be spent on armour. The armour has no effect on gameplay other than changing the look of your Spartan or Elite. There are now also loadouts similar to classes from the Call of Duty series, each with their own special ability. The first ability is Armor Lock. Armor Lock is an armour ability which allows the player to become invincible for about 6 seconds. If held for the whole of the six seconds, when coming up, you will issue an EMP blast that will take down all of the enemies’ shields that are around you. You can almost redirect rockets and destroy oncoming vehicles with this power. The second ability is the Jet Pack. The Jet Pack allows you to fly up and down the map with a jet pack, and it will deplete if held down for a number of seconds. Fall damage will still apply so you have to keep an eye on your fuel. The third ability is Active Camo. Active Camo allows the player to become invisible. The faster you walk in Active Camo, the easier it is to see the person and the faster it depletes, but if you are completely still or are moving slowly, it depletes very slowly and also covers you completely The fourth ability is Sprint. Sprint allows you to enter a mode where you move at a faster pace, but your gun is lowered. You can still throw grenades, but you are not able to shoot. The fifth ability is Hologram. This creates an exact copy of you, and is launched by looking at an area and activating your armour ability. The hologram will continue to the destination you painted until it is reached. This can be used to draw fire, serving as a distraction. The hologram will flicker and die if it takes enough damage, or if it has reached its time limit which is ten seconds The sixth ability is Drop Shield. This serves as a Bubble Shield and a Regenerator mixed together. Any teammates standing within the bubble will be healed up and protected. It can still take damage, however, and it will deactivate if it takes enough. The final ability is Evade. A Covenant-only Elite armour ability, it lets you quickly dive out of the way, avoiding grenades or diving into cover and such. Lets you dive twice before you have to wait for a recharge. It hasn't changed a whole lot, and that's a good thing. Halo is a perfect base for today's first person shooters and doesn't need to be tweaked. There are some new additions, but they're all welcome and only make the experience better. Graphics Halo: Reach looks great. There are a few slowdown issues, and some textures could look better, if you want to complain about it, then go right ahead. These minor problems are completely overshadowed by amazing effects and breathtaking landscapes. I'm certain people will nit-pick this game’s graphics to death, but in the end they are good. If you're looking to judge Reach, and the graphics are your one decisive area, you're looking in the wrong place. When you're standing on top of a giant covenant tower, on an outer ringed platform in the middle of a glimmering dark sky, you could look out and evaluate the draw distance, but it won’t be long before you're charged by an Elite with an Energy Sword. Those people will die. I'll jump and watch the Elite fall over the edge and fall to his death. In the end, people who pay attention to the gameplay are the ones who survive. ![]() Enjoyment and Verdict I loved Reach. It's everything I've wanted since the original Halo. Halo has always been a top series in the gaming industry, but it seems to have been getting worse and worse, especially for Halo's hardcore fans. Not this time. Bungie delivered, and they delivered BIG. This is the Halo of Halos, there is nothing I was disappointed with. I had high expectations for Reach and none of them were left wanting. I did mention some minor problems like slowdown and clunky textures, but if you let those bother you, then you're playing the game for all of the wrong reasons. None of the problems that I mentioned took away from the experience I had with reach, this is the best Halo game ever made and there is no better way to close the series, thank you Bungie. Final Score - 10/10 Edited by Arayvenn, Oct 18 2010, 04:30 PM.

This review was pretty good, I think you should in fact be a professional reviewer ![]() HOWEVER why wouldnt you take forge and custom games into consideration for your final score?(even though you gave it a 10, which may be a bit to generous) Forge is the best feature of halo reach! the custom games is the best thing you can do on the whole of xbox live!!! the Forge is a massive step forward for all custom made content!! I dont understand...

I only took new features into consideration. Also, I didn't exactly have enough time to play around with forge a lot, it wouldn't have been fair. I still love forge and custom games though, so my score would have most likely remained a 10. |

I'll just say this; there's almost no game I think is possible for a whole 10/10. there is always some thing about a game that's wrong, like the non-necessary caracters in OoT or glitches in a game( thank GOD for updates!!), there's something that would use a bit more work. I give the game a 10/10 since no game I've played but this one was a 100% or a perfect game.

I only deduct points if I feel something took away from my experience with the game. Ugly characters or something along those lines won't make me deduct anything. |

Photobucket is garbage and wants me to pay money to use my own images here all of the sudden (even though it was never an issue for years).
See if I ever use Photobucket for anything ever again.
