![]() Title: Fable III Genre: Role Playing Game, Action-Adventure Developers: Lionhead Studios Platforms: Xbox 360 Release Date: October 26, 2010 This is an opinion based review, I am not a professional critic. Review may contain minor spoilers Story You are the son (Or daughter) of the hero from Fable 2. Your father has passed and your brother is the new king of Albion, making you the prince. The people of Albion, including you, have grown tired of your brother's evil ways. He has led Albion to a poor and desperate state. Child labour, Poverty, and crime are all too common and he is doing nothing about it. He crosses the line when he sentences a group of people to death only to spite you, and you start a rebellion. Gameplay The gameplay is similar to Fable II. The bread crumb trail that leads you to your next objective is still there, and it still allows for deep exploration, but I'm afraid people won't do much exploring at all. The game gives you the option to play through it as if it were a stage for stage platformer, it can be very linear. Even though the game heavily suggests exploring and doing side-quests, I still think people will ignore the hours upon hours of extras in this game, and it's a shame. Those extras are what really give the game soul. You will play through the game going through many regions trying to gain allies for your rebellion. You may go to a town and ask they support you, and they will, but in return you must perform a few tasks for them. They mostly consist of proving yourself, or taking care of a gang that has been causing them trouble, but it's definitely rewarding to see that you have a whole city at your disposal when you complete their tasks. Throughout the game you will also be making promises like any good politician in your campaign for king, it's up to you whether you keep them or not. As people begin to look up to you, the game actually has you make quite a few important decisions, I actually took a lot of time to think about some of them, I genuinely cared and it felt like I was actually affecting Albion. The upgrade system has changed a bit too. You will gather "Guild Seals" by completing quests or killing enemies which can be spent on weapon upgrades, costumes, expression packs, etc. As for the sex, multiple marriages, mindless killing of villagers, sidequests and exploration, it's all still here, but it's up to you to take advantage of it. I don't feel the game promotes those features enough and that's my only complaint. I figure I'd take a small spot here to briefly mention multiplayer. Online Co-Op is still an option in this game and it's far better than it was in Fable II, you can actually load your character into a friends game now as opposed to just loading a premade loadout. Graphics Fable III is beautiful. Enviroments are top notch and feel alive. Trees move with the breeze, water effects look good, and the world is always moving. Effects also look good in this game, a lot better than the dissapointing effects from the previous installment. However, I have to mention the slowdown and framerate drops. I encountered many slowdown issues throughout the course of my playthrough. Even when hardly anything was happening on screen, framerate was iffy. It seems whenever I would sprint it would drop a lot, and slowdown appeared often too. And it was BAD slowdown, easily the worst slowdown I've encountered on any game this generation. The slowdown is usually brief and the framerate usually picks back up, but it still takes away from the otherwise beautiful game. ![]() ![]() Verdict Fable III, for me, is everything I wanted it to be. I feel it's going to be crushed to pieces by reviewers like its predecessor. People will undoubtedly complain that the game only runs you a few hours, and those people are idiots. If you're the kind of person who enjoys exploration and likes to strive for 100%, Fable III will be some of the most fun you've had with a game in a while. If you prefer to do the main quest and be done with it, then you wont be getting your moneys worth. Fable III is still the charming and silly yet deep and dramatic series we've come to know and love, you just need to search a little to find it. Even with that said, the framerate issues, and minor bugs that will most likely be patched will probably throw some people off. Final Score - 9/10 |

Author's note: This was meant to be up 72 hours ago. It wasn't put up due to homework being harder/more time consuming than anticipated. A good thing as well, it gave me more time with the game, which resulted in.... glitch finding. Alot of it. Does it impact the scores? Wait and see.... Another thing to consider is that I tend to view games more from the development/programming aspect now, so I may excuse some things that others would not. As this is an addition to someone else's review, this should give you all a differing opinion, even though our opinions really aren't that different. The main reason that this game's score is different is that a perfect (10/10) game DOES NOT nor will it ever exist. 9/10's are extremely rare, and anything above a 9? So rare I have yet to have played one. Fable III There are many criteria that a person must consider when reviewing a game. One that is perhaps the most important is that they have beaten the game. Let me be blunt, I have not. This means the final(?) boss has not been beaten, nor the story finished. This means this review will be updated as the game is finished, although that will probably only affect the storyline section. Now on to the review: Graphics Gameplay Story Sound Overall Presentation Averaged Scores (Tl;dr here):8.1/10 While not the best game out there, the removal of most of the RPG elements of the franchise has helped drive this game. There is room for impovement, for sure, but pick this one up if you are an action/adventure game fan. You will not be disappointed. Edited by Stompinlama, Nov 1 2010, 01:27 PM.

Photobucket is garbage and wants me to pay money to use my own images here all of the sudden (even though it was never an issue for years).
See if I ever use Photobucket for anything ever again.
