Game Guy's Casino is not a place for gambling, or anything of that sort. It is actually a clever(?) name for a forum about video games and other related topics.

It's a place for gamers!

I am not a professional critic. This is an opinion based review.

Overview

I hadn't heard of this game till I was somewhat forced to buy it. I saw a jaw dropping deal (Bioshock 2, Final Fantasy 13, and this game for $5) and I wasn't going to let it go.

Story

The game takes place in the future, after human kind has developed quite a bit and we're now able to live across the galaxy. A rebel or military group called the Arm of Orion has begun to take over some of the planets while somehow keeping it hidden from the government. Eventually the government decides to check in on some of their planets and realizes they've been trolled, they send in 8th armored infantry (us) to go fight and stop the Arm of Orion. If I didn't read the manual, I wouldn't of known all of that. The story is explained very poorly, your objective isn't made very clear, and everything is stringed together poorly. I actually got to a point where I said, screw the story. That's very rare for me.

Gameplay

The game is played as a first person shooter. It borrows many aspects from Halo. The control scheme is very similar, the guns were clearly inspired by halo, and even some of the animations look the same, this isn't really a bad thing. The bad thing is that the game isn't fun to play. Shooting enemies is very clunky, they have a little too much health for the pace of a first person shooter, and the hit detection is absolutley retarded. The AI is also god awful. Even on hard enemies struggle to hit you while you're standing right in front of them. The gameplay does have a few little twists I did like though. For one, the objectives aren't always the same, you actually feel like you're doing something new every stage, pretty rare for FPS'. I also liked some of the abilities you had. Having a jet pack enabled you to get to places that almost opened up a whole new way to play the level, I liked this sense of freedom. I could fly onto a tower and snipe the generators, or I could run in with a rocket launcher. The game does have a multiplayer service, but it's pretty much dead. That's pretty dissapointing since the single player is really just a long tutorial for the multiplayer.

Graphics

The game looks pretty bad. It kind of looks like a good PS2 game. Not only that, but it's pretty ugly. Most of the color scheme consists of different variations of brown and grey, textures look clunky, enviroments are stale, and the set pieces are nothing to be impressed with. I will say that some of the backdrops look nice, as do some of the character designs, but it really just looks like a low budget game.

Verdict

The game has nothing to offer that would make you want to buy it. It fails in all categories, and if it wasn't included in that deal, I wouldn't have bought it. I'd reccomend you avoid this title.

Final Score - 4.0/10
