This is my first review, so I hope you guys enjoy it.

Gameplay: This game is incredibly fun. I went into this game, thinking it would be too easy, but later realized that it is challenging. The control is okay, I am not to fond of waggling a wiimote up and down, but I can live with it. There are a lot of puzzle pieces and coins you can collect throughout the levels, so there is a lot of replay value. There is also a Co-op mode that is very fun to play with friends. 8.5/10

Graphics: For the Wii system capabilities, this game looks great. One of the best looking games on the Wii, although I would prefer it on a console with higher capabilities.7.5/10

Music: When I first popped this game into my Wii, and heard the nostalgic music it started playing, I nearly had a nerdgasm. The music is fantastic in this game. Here are a few examples:
DK island Swing
Aquatic Ambiance
Tidal Terror
9.5/10

Plot: The same old Donkey kong plot, Your banana hoard has been stolen, and Donkey and Diddy have to get it back. Not to plot heavy, but I wouldn't have it any other way. 7.5/10

Lifetime: I will continue to come back to this game in the future, for a VERY long time. I could sit down and beat the whole game, and want to do it again. Completing the game 100% can take a while. 8/10

Overall: I would highly recommend this game to any new or old gamer (My grandfather even enjoys it.). I encourage you to buy this game ASAP I promise you will have a grand time with it.

Final score: 8.2/10

This is a very good review. It's fair and just.
That isn't to say that I agree with it 100%, but it's overall pretty fair.

Would have liked it to be a little more in-depth. I still won't buy this game.

DKC is easy as all hell. I'm not buying it because it looks incredibly shallow.

Thanks for the review!

I got this game for christmas and it is actually pretty fun. it takes the things that made the SNES version great and expands upon them in fantastic ways. The graphics are great, the music is great, the gameplay is fluid and responsive, and there is some element of challenge there that should exist in a DKC game.

I would also reccomend getting it.

8 is a pretty fair score. The main thing that hinders the game (for me at least) was the control scheme. It is a shame they made no support for CC. The shaking Wiimote is just awful (glad the hackers made a hack to allow CC control).

Also, it is a shame that this is the first DKC game I can think of that has zero snow levels.

Shame?
If you're implying that you like ice, you're one of probably 10 in the universe. Also, I don't see what's so bad about the shaking.

I hate shaking a wiimote as well. I'd rather just push a button. And I've always hated the Ice levels :P

I enjoy ice levels, and I didn't mind shaking the Wiimote. It made things more interesting for me.

There are plenty of good snow levels.

In terms of ice physics, I am not a fan. However, people love Super Meat Boy and it was ALL ice physics.

The shaking is an issue due to pixel perfect jumping. Any nudge of the Wiimote can create a roll. This leads to way too many accidental deaths. They should never make shaking a move command. NSMB Wii didn't and it controls fine. Super Paper Mario... same thing. ;)

Edit: Odin, read the key word MOVING. The shaking for the helicopter doesn't propel you left or right. All the shaking moves only go up and down...which is fine.

Aww, was it really so hard for you that your hands were shaking all the time?

Also, few of those listed games actually were affected by the snowy/icy conditions. The only thing I cared for about the snow levels in DKC was the music, which was used in DKCR.

The rocket barrels were very fun. They definitely added to the challenge of the game.
You seem to be afraid both of new things and of difficult things. This being both seems to make you hate it.

Also, it doesn't make you roll if you shake it while standing still. That makes you slam the ground. I've only twice had it roll when I didn't want it to, and I've beaten the game

Hahahaha...yeah right. New things? I haven't seen anything in DKC Returns that hasn't already been done before and better. You really need to play much more platformers than just what Nintendo gives you. It would suck just to play Nintendo games all your life. Difficult things? I fully beat Super Meat Boy and that game has way better controls than what Retro Studios gave us. Heck, I enjoyed getting all the medals in Sonic Colors and that was a challenge.

It rolls when you hold right. I always hold right on platformers when moving. How do you expect to get a running jump without holding right? Oh right, there is no running button in the layout. Thank goodness hackers decided to fix the control issues for us.

Also, I think you misunderstand. I don't hate DKC Returns. I think it is a fun game. However, it isn't the return to the franchise. It is another developer trying their hand with a DK game. As that, the game is fine. It just isn't as huge as a leap as the original DKC did. Returns does nothing really amazing compared to many platformers out today. I would even say Lost in Shadows was more ambitious than DKC Returns. Returns took alot of safe ways with not daring to be different. Therefore, it gets a grade of a B in my book.

Now games like Uncharted 3, Infamous 2, and Sly 4...those are games I think that will shape what a platformer can turn out to be.

I did not mean new to existence. I meant new to the franchise. And while as you say "it's not the return to the franchise", it's as close as any modern game can get to the classics of that era. And I highly doubt Rare could still make games to match the brilliance of the original 3, even if the entire company hadn't been sucked into a black hole. It wasn't designed to be as big a leap as DKC was, because it wasn't a leap into new waters, it was a return to old and comfortable waters.
