Plants Vs. Zombies is a Tower-Defense game by Popcap Games first released in 2009 for the PC. Later, it was ported to the DS, Xbox 360, PS3, Ipad, and Android. Since I only own the PC version, the review will only be limited to that version of the Game.![]() Note: If I type the word "Plant" with the "P" capitalized, I am referring to the Plants as a noun, if there is no capitalization, then I am using the word as a verb. I put this here to avert any type of confusion by anyone who reads this review. Story: The story of this game is relatively simple. Zombies have risen up from their graves, and as you could guess, there's only one thing on their minds, brains (No pun intended.) You, an unnamed homeowner, must defend your house from these undead hooligans by not bringing out your Shotgun and shooting them down (Seriously, who would think to do that?), but by planting various types of Plants on your lawn to keep them at bay. Gameplay: The gameplay of PvZ starts out simple, but ends up being a very strategic and challenging game later on. In Adventure mode, you go through 5 worlds consisting of 8 normal stages, 1 Mini-Game level, and 1 Boss level. Every stage in this game consists of 5-6 lanes depending on the type of stage you are currently playing. Each lane has a Lawn mower at it's Left end. Zombies will attempt to invade your home by walking down one of the lanes from the Right end of the screen. If a Zombie makes it to one of your Lawn mowers, they will be killed along with any other Zombie in the lane instantly by it as a last resort. If a Zombie then makes it to the Left end of that lane, you lose the level. At the start of each level, you are given 50 Sunlight. Sunlight is the "Currency" of this game. Sunlight comes down from the sky in increments of 25. Almost every Plant in the game requires Sunlight to be planted. Once you have enough Sunlight to plant something, it's seed packet will light up on the top of the screen. By clicking on the seed packet, then clicking anywhere on your lawn where you can plant the Plant you are choosing, you will plant it right there on the spot. All Plants must recharge after being used, so you cannot simply gather up a bunch of Sunlight and then plant 8 of the same Plant at once. If a Zombie gets to one of your Plants, it will start to eat the Plant. It doesn't take long for the Zombie to eat any of your Plants. The Plants you will find in this game include Peashooters, your basic line of defense which shoots Peas at any Zombie in the lane you plant it in, the Sunflower, who generates Sunlight for you so you don't have to wait for it to fall from the sky, and the Wall-Nut, which acts like a barrier for your other Plants and lasts a long time. At the end of each stage, you will be given a new plant to use. After the first four levels of a world, you will play a Mini-Game level. These Mini-Games vary from bowling, to breaking vases, to even playing a level with Tiny Zombies who while take less damage until they die, are much faster. At the 10th level of the world you are in, you will play a Boss Level. Boss Levels are different from normal levels in that instead of having to gather Sunlight in order to plant Plants, you now are given a Conveyor Belt on which Plants will periodically scroll in from. You can then plant that Plant completely for free. After the Boss Level, you advance to the next world. World 1 is your basic Tutorial World to get you acquainted with the mechanics of the game. World 2 introduces the player to Night Levels, in which you have to rely solely on your Sunflowers to maintain a supply of Sunlight. World 3 takes place in the homeowner's Backyard Pool in which you must plant Lily Pads in order to plant your Plants on the pool's surface. World 4 is essentially the same as World 3, except that it is Night-time and fog rolls in, blocking the player's view. The final world of the game, World 5, takes place on the homeowner's Roof. Due to the angle of the roof, you must rely on Cabbage-pults, Kernel-pults, and Melon-pults in order to establish your Main defenses. The Zombies adapt to your defenses over the course of the game, using screen doors as shields from your firepower, using ladders to climb over any of your Plants, and even coming down from the sky to snatch one of your Plants away from you! While the game does provide a decent challenge, sometimes things can get a little too hectic. Sometimes I get a little bit tense when there are a whole bunch of Zombies on the screen at once, causing me to accidentally plant something in a different place than I wanted, occasionally costing me a win. ![]() Graphics: The Graphics of this game are Beautiful! Everything in this game looks like it was hand-drawn. The animation is smooth, and everything is made in great detail, as you can see from the above picture, they put in little details, such as putting little clovers and flowers on the lawn, and the pool looks beautiful! Soundtrack: Oh, don't even get me started about the Soundtrack! All the songs in this game are extremely catchy and sound beautiful! Don't believe me? Here, I'll give you a link to my personal favorite song in the game! The music in this game is somehow both surreal and motivational at the same time! Lifetime: This game definitely won't bore you once you beat the Adventure Mode! After you beat the Final Boss, you can replay the entire Adventure again in Hard mode. You get to keep all the Plants you obtained your first time through, but this time the difficulty is ramped up a notch, and 3 Plants are pre-selected for you. This can either not affect you if you were going to select one of the Plants anyway, but it can also screw you up if you get something like a Lily Pad in World 1. But there's even more! There are over 10 Mini-Games you can play, some of which you played through in Adventure Mode, but other's are completely brand new! One of these is Zombie-Nimble Zombie-Quick, which is like a normal level, but sped up to be twice as fast! There is also Puzzle mode, which includes Vasebreaker and I, Zombie. I, Zombie is a game in which you actually play for the other Team and place Zombies on the lawn to eat Plants! This game is won when you can get a Zombie to the far Left side of all 5 lanes. Finally, there's Survival mode. In Survival Mode, you basically play 5 continuous levels in a row. After you beat 1 level, you actually get to keep all of the Plants you put down before and continuously build upon it while keeping the endless onslaught of Zombies at bay! Overall: Plants Vs. Zombies is an amazing example of what a Tower-Defense game should be. It's fun, addicting, and replayable! It has amazing visuals, a beautiful soundtrack, and most of all, you're fighting Zombies with Plants, PLANTS. You know you're awesome when you can use Flowers and Vegetables to fight the Undead. It is an amazing game, and you should definitely give it a try. ![]() Gatling Pea owns all. Edited by Complete_Dweeb, Jul 28 2012, 03:31 AM.

If I may bring up a suggestion. Maybe different people could review the different forms of PvZ. I think it might be more thorough that way. Since you did the original PC version then maybe other people can do reviews of the different ports and compare them to each other. |

Holy geez, I should take reviewing classes from you! Nice work! I own the PC, iPod, iPad, and DS versions of this game, the the PC one is by far the best. I got it when it came out and am still playing it, so there is definitively replay value. Another thing that you might want to add is the Zen Garden (I don't think you mentioned it? Maybe.), because that feature will keep you playing for YEARS. |

Because he thinks that a 14-year old couldn't make a quality work. I don't blame him, but Mitch here is definitely smarter than his 14-year old bretheren |

Kristo, compare this 14 year old's review to your review when you were 14 of MvC3. That's why I'm surprised. |

Ah, Plants VS Zombies. Apparently this guy I know does POPCAP's Aks a zombie. I wasn't aware of that job either. This game can be addicting, but I don't think the replay value is quite at a 10. A 10 to me in replay value is a game you can beat over and over and not get bored. I kinda got done about halfway through hard mode. But that's just me. My favorite technique is "fire and ice" as I call it. the snow peashooter, with that flaame plant whose name escapes me behind them, and the gattling peashooters behind them. I agree. Until I converted to the 5 Scale, I was overly generous with my scoring. I honestly feel this game deserves a 3.5/5 in terms of replay value. Edited by Complete_Dweeb, Jul 10 2012, 02:45 AM.

Kristo and for anyone else who wasn'r aware, a bump is always a bump. The question is if it was a required bump or not. So yes the thread was bumped but several people seemed to add the conversation so I guess it was ok. Just be a little more cautios in the futre, Domonator. |

Photobucket is garbage and wants me to pay money to use my own images here all of the sudden (even though it was never an issue for years).
See if I ever use Photobucket for anything ever again.
