Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
For the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the Game Boy Advance

Posted Image Posted Image

Donkey Kong Country 2, having a great graphical appeal for each consoles' standards and great gameplay to boot. The way this game starts out is that Donkey Kong is kidnapped and his nephew Diddy Kong must rescue him from Crocodile Isle, using the help of his girlfriend Dixie Kong and the other members of the Kong Family to aide them whenever they might be lacking on lives, or maybe they just want hints to future levels.

Plot: The Basic storyline of the game is that Donkey Kong has been kidnapped by Kaptain K.Rool, a pirate version of King K.Rool. Diddy and his girlfriend must save him from the clutches of this Kremling Commander. It's not too bad but simple enough for anybody playing to understand. Posted Image
(SNES: 6.5/10)
(GBA: 7.5/10)

Gameplay: This game has simplistic and understandably easy game mechanics. It works pretty much the same as any 2D platformer, although you have the ability to roll into enemies or roll off a cliff and jump for more distance. What's new to Donkey Kong Country 2 that they added from the first game was that you can use a "Team Up Throw" to send the Kongs up to places unreachable otherwise.

There are also instances where the game breaks away from the usual platforming levels and includes segments where you utilize animal buddies, such as Rattly over here. Posted Image
Along with segments as animal buddies, there are segments where you either have to avoid rising slime in a castle or ride a roller coaster and attack riders to obtain first place.

(SNES: 9.5/10)
(GBA: 9.5/10)

Graphics: The Donkey Kong Country series in general wins for its most graphical spectacles. The graphics were great for Super Nintendo standards and GameBoy Advance standards. So it would no doubt that this game you have you loving its visuals. Posted Image
(SNES: 10/10)
(GBA: 10/10)

Soundtrack: This game has a soundtrack that can sound either creepy when you're plowing through a castle level, or soothing as you practically soar through the brambles. You can even listen to these songs for a sample of its amazing soundtrack.

Stickerbrush Symphony (SNES/GBA)

Krook's March (SNES/GBA)

In a Snow-Bound Land (SNES/GBA)

So therefore I can say this game, even though the sequel to this game might have a close second, might possibly own the best soundtrack within the Donkey Kong Country old school series.
(SNES: 10/10)
(GBA: 10/10)

Lifetime: Now there weren't many 2D non-Mario platformers that had a long lifetime of you enjoying the game, but Donkey Kong Country 2 was and is different in that aspect. Collecting every Kremcoin Posted Image and DK Video Game Hero Coin Posted Image, and in the GameBoy Advance version collecting those with the addition of pictures, will keep you playing even after years of owning the game. I know I have.
(SNES: 9/10)
(GBA: 9.5/10)

Overall: This game, with its great graphics and soundtrack as well as plenty of reasons to keep you playing, is a great choice for anybody especially if they are into nostalgia.
(SNES: 45/50)
(GBA: 48.5/50)

This is Pabu. Enjoy him.
For the most part, a great review. Just one question. If the plot is the same in both of them, why is the GBA plot rated higher than the SNES plot?

Second question: why did you believe that Diddy is DK's nephew? That was only in the stupid cartoon.

Jwolfe, to answer your question, the GBA version is only rated higher because the plot is brought forth into the gameplay while in the SNES version it just only shows a piece of paper and that's it.

This review certainly shows immense improvement over your previous...I'm not even going to call that a review. But one thing I would recommend is to explain the controls and game mechanics in the gameplay section. All you brought up in that section was the difficulty level. But otherwise, good review! Keep improving!

Don't forget to fix the problems that this one has too, though. Like links and pictures. Especially pictures.

Why does the GBA have an extra point for plot?

There are SEVERAL things you could do to improve this review. I'll put it into point form just so you can read it more easily:

- CHECK YOUR GRAMMAR: After writing one section of the review, read it to yourself and make sure it makes sense, and sounds nice.
"Donkey Kong has been kidnapped by Kaptain K.Rool, a pirate version of King K.Rool. Diddy and his girlfriend must to save him from the clutches of this Kremling Commander."

There are 2 things you did wrong here: FIRST It just doesn't flow together nicely, but we'll get into that a little later. SECOND "his girlfriend must to save him from". That's just improper grammar, I noticed this happen on 2 or 3 other occasions throughout the review, which is quite a few.

- MAKE IT FLOW If we go back to the first sentence, it looks like you're trying to go into something about the graphics, but then out of nowhere you just completely changed the subject and started talking about how the game was different (Not to mention you started the sentence with "The").

- MAKE IT LOOK NICE: There are several problems with photo placement in this review, at one point I couldn't even understand what happened because 3 or 4 words were trapped beside a photo instead of on the line below where they should be. Keeping photos on different lines then the text is an excellent way of making this not happen.

- MAKE SENSE: "Gameplay: This game has really great gameplay" THANKS BRO! Why don't you tell me what about the gameplay makes it unique? I don't need to know the controls, you started on something with the "Team up throw" gameplay mechanic, but what else could you add?

I think this should be good for now, should you choose to be wise, and follow this advice, then I may be inclined to help you in the future.

Smashbros, the reason is because the events visibly flow better in the remake. For example, in the original as soon as you started up the game you just started playing. You went into a cabin in the first stage and a note that DK was kidnapped was floating in the middle of the room. The remake noted you with a cutscene to show what might have happened to DK and how they even got to Crocodile isle. The after-boss cranky scenes, although annoying, also helped the game flow a bit better.

And to Odin, yes it's my first REAL review so I thank you for your criticism and I'll edit it accordingly. (some of the stuff is stupid errors like "his girlfriend must to save..." that are entirely my fault)
