CUBIVORE A game you've probably never heard of. Filled with carnivorous boxes galore! Oh joy! Considered by many to be another one of the retarded children of the Gamecube, this game was on sale for a short period of time before being taken of the shelves due to it's utter lack of popularity. The amount of people who know about this game is limited, and even fewer enjoyed it, due to the oddness of the game. To tell the truth, when your review buddy Technoboy200 over here got it, he ended up playing for an hour tops and then put the game in a cardboard box with his other games, only to resurface a few years later and finally shine as a great game. Gameplay: THIS is the reason anyone who has played the game has quit. The gameplay is TREMENDOUSLY hard to get used to, and the learning curve is virtually non-existent. Unless you are super bent on getting through this game, you will quit within the first 30 minutes. Once you get used to the mechanics, however, this game becomes one of the most fun things since sliced bread. The main mechanic is this: You are a box, you eat other boxes. Eating different colors of boxes changes your form and makes you more powerful. In certain areas, you can mate, and the offspring will have an extra limb (as you start with one limb, the weakest type). You can go up to six limbs, and keeping track of the colors you eat will lead you to victory. Along the way you will find bosses with pieces of "Raw Meat", which when eaten, give you a special power depending on which Raw Meat it was. (8/10) ![]() Graphics: Another reason people don't give this game what it is worth is what they CALL graphics, but isn't exactly what they think. The actual graphics of the game are reasonably good, although the Gamecube can do better. Something done very well is the textures of the game. Now what people complain about is the fact that everything is square (you will find no round objects) and people say this is lazy work on the designing. I don't think this can be considered graphics, as the game revolves around a world which is purposely made of squares, and the art style is actually quite charming. (7/10) Music: Wow... this. Although any new player of this game will complain that there is no music, they would be horribly, horribly, wrong. The lack of "conventional" music is indeed apparent, but if you are close-minded enough that you think that is all that is important, you shouldn't play this game. It's a game for someone willing to take a risk with an unknown game. But back to the music. Yes, there may be very few tunes that constantly play as you go through levels, and to an untrained ear the game is silent. However, I attest that an experienced player could get through the game with their eyes closed, with only the music to guide them. That is the amazing thing about it. It blends so many noises together, as in nature, that you don't even recognize it as music. It's just noises, after all. But this is not true. The blending of all the sounds and flawless transitions between urgency and rest and other themes, the game's music can sometimes tell you more about your surroundings and condition than the screen can. (10/10) Plot: The plot of this game can be summed up in a few lines. Many colors of cubivore used to exist. Then the colorless beasts came and devoured all the cubivores, storing the "Wilderness" within their bodies as "Raw Meat". Without Wilderness, the cubivores began to die out. One Cubivore, with 6 pieces of Raw Meat became the most powerful being in the land and was dubbed "King Cubivore". After you are born, your instincts drive you to restore wilderness to the land and become the greatest of cubivores, making every possible mutation (150 of those) and killing the king. The story is minimal, but it's enough for the game. I will, however, judge this as it's own category, rather than how it fits into the game, to be fair. (5/10) ![]() Lifetime: The earlier stages will take you a long time as you get used to the game, but eventually you will be able to complete the entire game in a few hours. This isn't the end of the fun though. The game centers around getting all 150 mutations by eating all the different kinds of meat in different combinations, and this can be tough. It will take you several run through's of the game to get every mutation, and then you can fight the final boss (after 100 mutations). When you get all 150, you fight him again, and then the game finishes, sending you to Shangri-La, where you can be any Cubivore you want. This is where the game ends for all means and purposes, as Shangri-La isn't that much fun, giving the game between 10-30 hours of solid gameplay, depending on how good you are. (7/10) ![]() Overall: This game is quite good, even if some categories leave some to be desired. I cannot stress enough how much you will not enjoy this game if you don't give it a chance, it needs to grow on you. What will feel awkward at first will become second nature. What seemed like empty space you will find to be the best strategy makers ever. What seemed like odd humor will turn into the most hilarious jokes you have ever heard. This game just needs a chance, and it's sure to shine. (7.4/10) Edited by Technoboy200, Sep 19 2012, 05:57 PM.

I like how the quote on the boxart says it's the most bizarre game on the Gamecube. Nice review, though! This looks like a somewhat interesting game. I'd give this a try, but as you said, I probably won't find it in any shops anywhere. |

Although it doesn't look very fun, I guess you can't judge a game until you play it through. |

Interesting. You give a game of dubious reputation a positive review, and it was persuasive enough to get me to want this game. Well done, good sir!

Photobucket is garbage and wants me to pay money to use my own images here all of the sudden (even though it was never an issue for years).
See if I ever use Photobucket for anything ever again.
