You DO know those things have been occuring since the Earth's beginning? Those things are merely representative of a dynamic environment.... Thanks for the daily fairy tale, Rammy. |

I don't think the end is coming just yet. When I see a huge penis that blocks the sunrays from hitting the Earth, then I shall believe. Until then  |

one giant word PWNED! BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (Reuters) -- Sightseers in Buenos Aires got a shock Thursday when the city's most famous landmark, the obelisk, was covered with a giant pink condom on World AIDS Day. |

I know that, but I'm saying the occurances of these things have multiplied ten fold in the last few years... |

Serious doubt/10. I'll believe it if you say it's increased over the years. Global warming, ozone layer, bla bla bla. Tenfold you say, however?

To be frank, I think you're wrong. To confuse periodic trends with overall growth is easy to do. The plate tectonic directly west of Sumatra is involved in a 200 year cyclic process of enormous earthquakes. This has been recorded since about the 1300's. Usually, about every 200 years or so, it has one, two, or even three earthquakes of significant magnitude within a period of 5 years. These earthquakes occure because of overlapping plate stress. One plate is positioned above the other, as they continue to come closer together, the underlying plate is forced down, building up a substantial amount of stress. Plates, as you know, don't just move in one direction. After several years or decades of moving one direction, they could change course. Such is the case; and the earthquakes caused on this plate-line are the result of so much stress being released in a short amount of time. You can notice this is true because after the Sumatran earth quakes, entire coral reefs, still attached to the earth, were now above sea level. You can also tell that there is more pent up stress along this line because there are sections of forest in Sumatra that are partially under water that were not underwater before. Once the stress is released, probably further south this time, another earthquake will result. Again, this is a trend, a cycle. This is not "uncommon", this does not signify global warming, or apocalypse. Such cycles also exist pertaining to other natural disasters. The only single thing you cited that could be interpreted as a sign of the end are the melting ice caps, which could still be the result of a periodic atmospheric warming. Perhaps not, but as you can see, the argument for apocalypse is scientifically on weak ground. |
