Distance matters not. All you need to know is the time. That and the fact that we're on planet Earth. |

I eat people for a living.

Since I'm Asian, will I have to maintain a 4.0 here too? I feel like a rascist joke to myself. |

His speed upon hitting the ground would have been 9.6 m/s/s. Gravity pulls objects to the earth at a rate of 9.6 m/s (meters per second), meaning that all objects falling to earth, minus air resistance, will all accellerate at a rate of 9.6 meters per second, each second. If it only takes him one second to make contact with the ground, he must have been going 9.6 meters per second upon hitting the ground. And by the looks of it, he was... *looks out the window, cringes* Face first, no less... |

Actually just the acceleration is 9.6 You asked for speed. |

Right, and gravity causes objects to fall to earth at a rate of 9.6 m/s/s. This means that each second an object (in this case, my "volunteer") is in free-fall, he will accellerate at a rate of 9.6 m/s each second. If he was in free-fall for two seconds, his speed of impact would have been 19.2 m/s... Three seconds, 28.8... etc. etc. etc. |

Yeah, but he couldn't fall that fast in a vacuum. |

That's acually how fast he would fall in a vacuum. Outside, there's the factor known as "air resistance." |
