Yes. Yes you do. Hey kids! The first step to nailing emo down is to get the look! First off, you want to wear extremely tight clothes. Doesn't matter what emo you are, all of them will wear tight clothing. Also, you must wear girl pants. Even if you're a dude. Because no emo is complete without girl pants. Lastly, to be emo, you must wear a t-shirt showing off a band, or a collered shirt. Winterwear demands either a sweater, sweatervest, or a hoodie, but never, EVER a jacket. An emo dresses up very much like a punker, except with a bit of sensitivity added to it. For example, a punk might have the hairstyle known as a "mohawk," whereas an emo has a hairstyle known as a "fauxhawk." A fauxhawk is like a mohawk, except that the hair is left intact on the sides, making you look like an idiot. However, the emo must grow his/hair long. The minimum hair length for a typical emo kid is that so when it is combed downward (Or, the "bedhead" style), it can hide their eyes, to which they can cover themselves up if the world stares at them. The typical emo hair style is dyed black, but this seems to no longer be required, due to the "prepatory" emo look, which is a combo of collered shirts and blonde hair. As for accessories, you must have a notebook scribbled with deep, meaningful poetry in it. Also, a guitar is recommended. An acoustic is preferable, since it isn't as threatning as an electric guitar. However, an electric guitar is required if you are a "screamo" emo. A "screamo" has an extremely hoarse voice, due to the fact that he/she screams her lungs out on stage to better personify his/her pain. Spiked bracelets and/or belts are also pretty high up there with the emo counterculture. And lastly, plain black sneakers scream emo. Lastly, there's make-up. Emos must wear black eye-shadow. This is especially true for men. Men wearing make-up screams sensitivity, which is the defining part of the emo counterculture. Also, black nail polish is great. But, it is not as heavy as tattoos in this culture. The emo, however, cannot get a bitchen tattoo, like a hawk on fire. He/she must either get some random symbols etched in black ink, or poetry inscribed upon their skin, preferably their wrists. |
