The Emo Sound! So, the Emo sound is vastly different sound-wise. The emos can opt to have an acoustic, electric, or screamo style. The underlying theme that all emo-music shares is an intense account of their emotions. Afterall, "emo" is short for "emotional rock." One day, punk rock bands started expressing their emotions, driving many of their fans away. Back then, it resembled Thrasher rock. Nowadays, there are many facets to the emo-sound. Screamo Emo! The screamo emo is driven by screaming. In fact, this particular set love to "blow out their voices with passion." They scream incessantly, usually about their girlfriends and such. Screamos usually have a death-metal sound, but if you analyze the lyrics, they are purely emo. Such bands include Scary Kids Scaring Kids, After The Tragedy, and various others with "dark" names. Bands that are screamo attract the least amount of fans, so if you want to relax with a sweet, preppy girl, you'll opt for... Acoustic emo! This sound is utilized the most by emo bands such as Daphne Loves Derby, Bright Eyes, and Yellowcard. The acoutic sound tends to stick to sickly sweet love ballads, and usually utilizes instruments such as the acoustic guitar, violin, snap drums, and the piano. This subgenre of emo never goes faster than your typical slow hand clap, and due to this, it is considered the slow-dance numbers of an emo party(To be discussed in emoettiquite section). Also, since it goes so slow, many emo kids love to sing along with its sordid lyrics while cutting their wrists open, which usually doesn't fit with... Pop Emo The word pop usually connotes bad music to some people, which isn't particularly true in this case. The typical emo kid loves his typical pop emo band. Such bands as Jimmy Eat World, Fall Out Boy, and My Chemical Romance are perfect examples of ubiquitious emo bands. These popular emo bands share friendly choruses, introspective lyrics, and oftentimes a melding of different genres, such as metalcore, or even folk music. Pop emo is generally heard on the MTV, which is why some emos feel that their music has become washed out. These are usually the ones who've been listening to... Classic Emo The classic emo can remember back in the day when The Rites of Spring was the first emo band. Other good examples of classic emo include Sunny Day Real Estate, The Get Up Kids, and Angel Hair. These bands wielded a punk rocker sound, and were in fact originally punk bands. Then, one day, they started melding emotion with their thrasher style, resulting in the roots of emo. The emo craze wouldn't really start until the advent of bands such as Weezer and Jimmy Eat World, which defined the soon to be slow sound of pop-emo. The classic emo shares much in common with... Indie Emo! Well, actually, the only similarity both share is a discontempt for pop-emo. But, this is the one I think I know the best, so here we go. Indie emo doesn't necessarily have to mean bands that are unsigned, far from it. The term is pretty broad these days, but translates to bands that most MTV viewers haven't seen on television. This list includes From First To Last, Love Falls, 1208, Halifax, Hawthorne Heights, Matchbook Romance, Paramore, Bright Eyes, and many more. The indie emo sound isn't actually distinguishable from the pop emo sound. But, they do feature more guitar solos, which is kick-ass. But, I digress... Actually, I'm tired. Bah. The current emo label on top is Fueled By Ramen/Decaydance. The current emo site is Purevolume, where you can sample many emo bands. Second place is myspace.com. Both usually offer lots of downloads. This is what schools should teach. XP |

Pffffft, hey, immigrants come to schools and don't ask to have their lessons compacted. Why? They can't speak the vernacular. Which is why you need to learn! |
