Small talk

I totally fail at small talk. This topic was meant to be in itself small talk, but I'm so bad at it that I couldn't actually think of anything to type.

Thus I figured a topic on small talk in general.

Seriously, how do people converse about nothing for any length of time? And when you don't it leads to these awkward silences, which is the worst part of any conversation. Am I the only person with this issue or is everybody else a social god?

I'm not a social god, yet I've talked about nothing for hours on end before. Don't make me dig up some of those conversations.

I can't do it on or offline. Hence the reason why our conversations usually involve repeat input from you and half-assed responses from me.

Unless I drink. Lack of inhibitions and boosted confidence make for any easy social situation.

Or no responces at all.

Meh, I suppose I have that issue as well.

A good way to break the ice in an online conversation is to poke someone. If that doesn't work, try a specialty poke.

Example:

Person A says: *poke*
Person B says: ?
Convo might end there. Batteries not included.

That isn't guaranteed to work. Always has for me though. :P

*shrugs*

MSN has that nudge thing, however I find nudges so painfully annoying that I somehow want to kill the nudgee in a distubring way. And I can do pretty disturbing when nudges are involved.

How troublesome...
Small talk is the devil.

It's pointless without a point (that makes sense).

So only talk ABOUT something.

I'm not sure if what I do is small talk or not, what exactly do you mean by a pointless conversation?

e.g talking about the weather, or spending extended periods asking how somebody is doing etc.

*obligatory asking about the state of one's self being*

I can't stand it when someone spends half an hour talking about trivial things, especially when we both have somewhere else to be >< But then when you actually say "Hey, erm..I gotta go!", you find something to talk about. Thus, you are late for wherever you are trying to go. You lose your job, money, and Wii.

See, small talk is bad.

Y'know that MSN has a limit so that you can only nudge every 5 seconds? I hacked my MSN to remove that limit. Muhaha, the ultimate annoyance.
