To all the New Members who have signed up of late, we welcome you to introduce yourselves and become a part of regular communication. During winter while many are away enjoying the goldfields weather and finding gold, forums become very quiet. Who's going to be first to introduce themselves? Cheers Peter |

Thanks Nightjar. I actually joined some years ago when I first got interested in gold detecting but have not been able to go over WA way until this year to have a decent go. I've been busy learning Tengraph and GeoVIEW and are getting closer to settling on some areas to detect. I've been fortunate in getting a little gold (and I mean little too in more than 1 way!) but our excursions so far have really only been a week or two every now and then. We managed a few days total detecting in 2013 when we toured WA in the 4by and I found my largest bit (6.5g) in the public-allowed prospecting area at Marble Bar. We hope to spend close to 2 months detecting this trip. Anne is less keen than I to get into thicker bush (over our way and down into Vic) and she was not too keen to get in amongst the spinifex once we learned about the snake that does not slither away from under the bush but rather wags its tail to attract prey. We are looking forward to meeting other new and more experienced detectorists around the campfire or billy or fridge! |

Hi Nightjar n thanks for the welcome. I'm new to this and any other gold forum. I'm using a Minlab 5000 and have been detecting over the last year or so, however I've only detected one nugget so far (1.4g from Tibooburra). I've detected briefly in the Victorian Goldfields, and various historic goldfields in south coast NSW and a one day in Kalgoorlie with a hired 5000, as a break driving from Canberra to Perth, relocating a son and some of his gear. I've found sufficient non-gold metal (digging every target, of course) - I feel I'm in the scrap metal business - although every target is one closer to the next nugget. Prior to the detector I've panned and specced for gold, minerals, gemstones and interesting rocks in general. Comes from being a hardrock geologist by trade, I guess. Now retired from paid work, I'm interested in learning to hone my gold detecting skills (from a low base). We [Mr & Mrs Nook (Marion & Ian)] are looking forward to being able to meet and spend time with other gold detector users, at the upcoming meet. I'm sure it will be a great introduction to detecting in WA! |

Great to hear about your intro to this great hobby. We all started out with visions of untold "Golden Eagles" they haven't appeared but the outback experiences and never ending picaninny dawns with the birds as wake up calls keep bringing us back. |

Hi all Thank you for having me as a member. I joined this site on the recommendation of another member. We have (my wife Jo and myself Peter) been detecting for about fifteen years with mixed results. We live in Kalgoorlie and use 4000's. I consider meeting with others of the same interest quite important and we're looking forward to meeting other members. Kind regards Peter & Jo |

Sorry for delay in introduction. My name is Annie, one of 6 kids from NSW country town, travelling full time in a caravan towed by a TD LC 100 series. My brother, Dennis, introduced me to gold detecting and I bought a GPX 5000 the year I retired. Later I bought an SDC 2300. My working life, I was in a bank for 26 years, took a retrenchment and then worked for Legal Aid Qld until I retired. I was last in WA in 2013 (Marble Bar, Nullagine, Sandstone, Meekatharra areas - found a little bit and one 15 grammer at Meek) and have been 'chomping at the bit' to come back here for a longer period. I have also detected around Georgetown Qld, Golden Triangle, NSW south coast (hometown) State Forests and recently at Mt Crawford SA (nil finds). Learning all the time. :=) I have always liked the bush and enjoy travelling. Have put my name down for your 2016 group trip and look forward to putting faces to the names. Cheers Annie |
