We all have a purpose in life and we just have to try and find it. Well it looks like I have found one thing for which I was destined to do, that is to start MSN Gold Detecting.

I was in my mid 50s in 2000 and was getting into Gold Detecting and the only forum I found that could give me any help was Finders. Well it was the same then as it is today and they couldn't give a damn about any new comers. I didn't want to join a club so MSN had public sites so I started my own site. My philosophy is that if I need something then a lot of others do to.

Could imagine my joy when one person joined then another and so forth until today we have over 2000 members and contributions every day. I couldnt run it myself so now with other like minded people, we have a successful site that is doing what it intended to do.

It has been an adventure with hackers, nuisances, and smart alecs which have caused untold harm on managers and members alike. We have learnt alot about people, gold detecting and websites, but when your heart is in the right place, you perservere. Good always wins over evil, and when you read a message like I did the other day - I have read your forum for over 8 months and learnt so much, and thanks to all those who manage and maintain the site - it makes it worth it.

It is still fun and an enjoyment to watch it grow and give pleasure to those using it so whilst it continues to be so, then I will continue to manage it. They are a great bunch of managers so I know that when I step out it will be in good hands

Hi, Jeff!
J'm a newcomer to this site...from the USA (is that permissable?). I've been looking at the differences in language, the different types of countryside, weather, landscape, etc.
Gold seems to be a common denominator...the searching, the finding, the traveling to locate.... Your country is mostly desert, is it not?
North Carolina (in the US) is where I live...gold was first discovered in the "New World", in NC ... before the great California gold rush. A 17 pound nugget was found by a farmboy in a creek. His family used it for a doorstop for many years...before the father (John Reed) took it to town ... to see if anyone would want to buy this strange metal ( the family was very poor). It sold to a jeweler( I think) for the asking price of $3.50! This was in the very early 1800s... and 3 1/2 dollars was quite a bit of money! The rest is history.... I've been to the Reed Gold Mine ; it's quite a state monument!
Shafts were dug deep into the side of the hill (by the creek); quite a bit of gold was taken from this vein before it "played out"....John Reed died a millionare....
Well! I've rambled on & on....Are you bored, yet? -Ted Hart / USA

Hi Ted

One of the things we have found that whilst gold is a common denominator, there are a lot of wonderful people around, you just have to find them. I have been fortunate enough to have known quite a few on MSN such as Gypsy, Nightjar, Qld Sandy just to name a few. There are many others.

Australia has a large portion which is dry but the Eastern States are quite different from the Western area. The gold fields are also quite different for in the West the goldfields are reasonably open and flat and go for miles. In Victoria and NSW the goldfields are in bushland and generally in more hilly country. They also have been more heavily worked.

It great to hear the stories aobut gold finds so it sounds like you are enjoying this adventure. Keep it going for there is a lot to see and do with hopefully golden rewards.

Jeff
