Greetings Folks!!
I live in the Pilbara, Karratha to be exact. Originally from Victoria but I went travelling about 26 yrs ago around Oz and decided there were better places to live, warmer too!!

Purchased a GPX recently and will try and find out how to use it properly and then maybe some gold, that's the basic idea anyway. Have found an itty little bit about 1.5 grams ..... can't wait for something larger .... actually, anything else would be fantastic!?!?!?

Ancestors on dad's side came out to the Ballarat goldfields in 1850's. Check out this link to the diary of my G.G.Grandfathers older brother for an interesting read on travelling to the goldfields 1857 style, http://www.ballaratgenealogy.org.au/art/letcher.htm.
Mum's side was already here when gold was found and Tipperary Gully at Daylesford in Vic was named by my G.G.Grandfather and his younger brother, no need to say where they were from? So, I suppose it must be in the blood??

I love being out in the red rock and spinifex, with a busy life of 12 hour shifts, family life, and work around home I relish every chance to go bush. Sitting amongst remnants of old gold miners with not a soul around is great fun!

If anyone has some likely spots to try up this way please help a beginner!!
:D

G'day mate if your living in Karratha a good place for a beginner to try would be the area known as the valley(golden) out behind Whim creek.I'm pretty sure there is a mines department in Karratha just drop in and grab a print of the area to see where you can swing.I've found a few bits in the surrounding areas(nothing big) but i've seen 11oz slugs pulled off the flats. With a GPX you would have a better chance than many as the ground out there is very noisy. G'day mate yes Straits do have leases out that way but not as far as the valley. As far as i know Mark creasy has most of the ground out that way. There is also alot of ground held by EL's that you can explore with a 20 A permit.I have found Creasy to be quite forthcoming when asking about detecting so it is worth a letter. After all he became a millionare from swinging detectors. Not many others have done so but maybe just maybe we can also have a crack at the dream....
