Great to hear from you Duro, a big welcome,we look forward to hearing from you. Glad you decided to finally take up the detecting & sounds like you are off to a great start! Well done. You will have to post some of your gold & camp sometime. Happy you like your 4500 as I am about to get one! Upgrading from the great 4000. Are you detecting here in W.A.? Do you go alone etc? My hubby & I also love the bush, birds & animals. Dick is camp master & dog sitter! I do the detecting & love it. Cheers, Kath |

Hi Kath, Most of the time i go alone but in saying that i took the tribe with me over the last school hols. We went to Kal, Kookynie and Leonora. I had some leases i was aloud to go on but most i imagine have been well used over the years, I picked up a two grammer so i was more than happy. I have been using a coiltek 18" elliptical mono and a 14" elliptical nugget finder mono. Not really knowing what other detectors are like i can not compair them to the 4500 but it seems all right but i still have a lot to learn about it but every time i use it i feel more confident with it. At the end of the day i am enjoying myself so thats all which matters to me. Regards to All Alan |

Hi Alan, So glad you found a 2 grammer...was this your very first nugget? You went to good areas, that must have been interesting, always in each area something different to see. Yes getting the gold is the cream. We just love our bush here in W.A. Really enjoy the nights also, sitting around the campfire, chatting & feel sometimes like you can touch the stars! We all seem to get favorite coils as time goes on. Mine is 11inch mono but this could change when I get the 4500!! Yes we do get more confident as we go along, guess practise makes perfect like they say! Has to be there first, challenge for us to find it if there BUT a wonderful hobby, very interesting & we learn all the time. You took children with you? How did they like it? Ages? I am asking because we have two grandies who want to come & see what we do but wondering if they would soon get bored!! Their ages are 7 & 9 yrs...guess you chose places well away from mine shafts etc?! Cheers, Kath |

Hi Kath, The kids are 6.5 and 2.5 so i suggest you take a portable dvd player, heaps of colouring books and paints, a book on stars, if their boys a compas each to show them how they work, plenty of batteries for night time trying to spot animals or birds in the trees with the torch, a soccer ball for a kick around etc. We took marshmellows for the camp fire at night and a couple of pancake mixes which on a clean hot plate they taste great. The abandond shafts were of great concern so I took them over to one and dropped a rock down it so they could hear how long it took to hit the bottom and how hard it would be getting them out etc so they were cool about that and wouldnt wander near them even though i camped a fair way away and i carry a fair bit of gear in case of an emergency probally to much but you never know whats around the corner? So far i would say the 2 grammer is the biggest i have out of the 5 ive detected. It just adds to the excitement of it all. Regards to all Alan. |

Hi Allan, What great suggestions, you certainly plan very well with kiddies. I had never thought of a compass for the lads nor a book on stars nor torch [always take them though] to show animals at night. I thankyou.
Great to get your imput Alan. Cheers, Kath |

Hello Duro and welcome to our site. I have taken my kids detecting all their lives even when i was pregnant i was still detecting, I know where you are coming from in regards to finding things to keep them amused , best thing i did buy was a telescope and book of the stars keeps them amused for hours trying to find the stars in the book, my son is 15 now and daughter is 7, both have own detectors and are allways asking when are we going bush, with my other half being a reptile and wildlife rescue/rehabilitator and educator for schools and minesites it has rubbed of on my daughter who has a facination with anything that moves she is just like Bindi Irwin, she will give you half an hour lecture on just about any animal that lives in the bush. I also have a book on bushfoods and they go searching for plants and trees around camp that we could eat in an emergency, oh i cannot forget the binoculars i must get another set as they are allways fighting over them when the see an eagle or something up in the trees or horizon. anyway hope you enjoy it in here. all the best Gypsy |
