Evening folks,
We have just returned from a trip to Coolgardie region, yep it was hot, but after all it was summer and we live and learn. (Did see you Gypsy, heading for Kal, was looking forward to coffee in CG. :D )
We did not find enough gold to finance the next trip to Bali, however did find an interesting little piece that shows that we have to be careful.
Kris & Andy told me about small gold being enclosed in an ironstone coating.
The photos here show, don't throw away those little magnetic hot rocks without a thorough check!

Nice little one Nightjar,

I wonder how that formed. Was it spat out of a volcano eons ago, or what?

Your right about the trip to Bali, although you could phone Bali with that one!

Thanks for that, very educational.

Thanks for showing that Peter.

I had an experience last year when I was picking up a heap of hotrocks. I got one rather heavy one and thought "this time I am going to smash you and see what's inside".

To my dismay when I smashed it, it was full of gold! All 46grams of it. I can tell you each and every one I get now is very carefully looked at and most times smashed :P

Cheers
Lyn

Hi Bill,

To post a photo you will first have to upload to an image hosting display site such as "Photobucket' & then use the website image address code of the photo on your post here to display the photo. The photo image code will have '[IMG] plus the site address details & end with [IMG]' displayed below the photo on the upload site. It is a free site & no charges are incorporated in photo sharing. Just join it as you would with any site.

You will find Photobucket here:

As I had a struggle uploading & posting photos' here I thought I would try to explain fully how I can now do it.

Like Ted says, first JOIN Photobucket.[ free]

Next: click UP-LOAD photos

Click IMG code [it will highlite to blue]

Then RIGHT click [drop-down will appear] then click COPY.

LEAVE photobucket page open while you go to this forum & go to EITHER Open new topic OR add reply.

on this white area just RIGHT click [will get dropdown] & click on PASTE.

Hope this is of help...just ask if you need more info.

Cheers,
Kath

Hi Peter,

That is a very nice showing of gold. :D What does the specie weigh & have you yet done a calculation of the gold content. Like you say, it pays to be careful!

My gosh Lyn I bet you are still kicking yourself to this day!!! :( But it is all part of us learning isn't it? In the past years I have wondered what I may have even tossed aside!

Cheers,
Kath

Here is another gold specimen in ironstone, in fact its the first piece of gold I ever detected and the tears of joy just didn't wash the ironstone off.

Well done Bill,

Looks like it could be close to an oz. That one was deserving of it's own topic discussion.Much better than the crap i've been posting! lol. Gold is now $1550 oz. Could be a ticket to Bali there!

Cheers Dave
