Hi Members & guests,

What type of dog muzzle have you found best for your dog?

Our mixed breed dog has a plastic type with leather straps but it really isn't the best for her....hard to get on & off although she is very good about having it put on. Also I feel there must be a better type. Can you please advise on your experience for a muzzle on your dog ...this is for going bush!!

Cheers,
Kath

Hi Kath,

I don't know what the best one is, but there are many available on Ebay and other online stores;

I hope this helps a little.

Hi Kath,

I dont want to put a dampener on it for you, but last year I had a friend come along with us that had a dog and the pastorlist ( Station Owner) requested that he remove the dog from the station.

I tried to explain to the owner that the dog would not be allowed to run free and would be on a leash at all times while on his lease.

And that further that I had worked on stations before and understood their concerns.

Unfortunately he was not going to be swayed from his decision so we shifted so that we didnt have to part company, so please bear in mind that depending on where you go you may run into the same problem.

Cheers,
TWA :ph43r: /Trevor.

Many thanks Dave & Trevor ,

I have been informed by email..but person cannot recall the brand...that there is one type that the dog can drink from but not pick up baits!??

Yes Trevor you are so right & who can blame the pastorilists when people do not obey the rules? I certainly do not..many wild dogs roaming, looking for a feed & most of them due to careless owners. We ask permission before heading out. Apart from leash & muzzle we take a large catcage [also good for safe travelling]
to pop her in after exercise & drink, then this is placed in a protected area where my hubby will sit as he does not detect. If hubby is wanting to wander off & I am not very close by, the cage & dog go into car if not hot, otherwise she is put in the caravan. STILL worry about her though but we sure do our very best to keep her safe & of course not wander.

Cheers,
Kath

Hi Kath,

Another reminder for you as well.

By the sounds of it your dog sounds like it may be something small like, poodle, silky or such that brings to mind an incident that occurred up near Banjawarn station.

Without giving names away a Kiwi friend and his wife tagged along with us one year and when out detecting his wife got a reading and yelled out that she needed a bigger pick to dig the sound. My Kiwi mate being a no brainer did an underarm swing of the pick in her direction about 40 metres away, well here it was this geo pick sailing through the air at about 20 meters and thump it lobs between her and her dog that were separated by about 2 metres.

Low and behold 10 minutes later I saw this eagle swooped down and tried to pick up her poodle but failed due to trees being a bit close to achieve this.

So Kath just keep an eye out from above as well, but I dont expect you will have to worry about flying picks tho.

Cheers,

Hi TWA,

Wow that was very interesting about the pick throwing!!!! Hmmm bet he dosn't do that again!!! B) ;)

We have a Malteze/cross & think Eagle would have trouble picking her up as pretty solid but you never know until they try!! Guess you heard about the PELICAN that got so fed-up with a loose, yapping small breed of dog, that the pelican swooped it up & flew off with its owner having hystrics on the beach! Wonder what happened to that dog?? Apparently happened at Monkey Mia a few years ago. :o ..

Members, don't you put a muzzle on your dog while bush?????? Would love to get some info about the type you have..thanks...

cheers,
Kath

Jon,

Sounds like we both need one for the Mrs. Thought about changing the warning sign on the gate. Forget the dog - beware of the Mrs.

Nice one Peter,

Thats how you can turn a playful little puppy into something that looks like Hannibal Lecter. No wander you never had any trouble on the fields.

I reckon you could find other uses for that muzzle ie; Deep frying chips!

Seriously though, well done with your dog, looks well taken care of.

Cheers Dave

Many, Many Thanks Peter & Tyso sure looks great!

I like the idea he can both drink & pant. Do you recall what size it is?Milly sure isn't as large as Tyso!! What is the black thingy at the nose area for?

Is it pretty adjustable? Milly is an awkward size for a muzzle, not totally sure what the other breeds in her are apart from the malteze/shisu???? also something else!

Hope you are NOT planning what the other guys are!!!! lol...Muzzle for the missus!

Watch out Carol!!!!

Cheers,
Kath

Hi Kath,
The black thingy over his nose is some "100 mile an hour tape" I put there. The muzzle seemed to be rubbing his nose. May remove it next trip?
From memory you need to measure length and diameter of nose. The directions are on the site.
The muzzle has only one adjustment, strap behind head, once that is adjusted fitment of muzzle is very simple by means of a snap fitting.
Your dogs drinking bucket needs to be big enough for her to get her snout and muzzle into.
The mesh does not prevent licking and lapping water, however stops them picking up any solids.
They can freely pant to keep their airconditioning working to maintain body temp in hot weather.

Actually am thinking seriously about a "cage" like you mentioned in earlier post, to control she, who is continuously twitching through the night, in readiness for next days detecting.

Cheers

Peter

Good luck & safe travels

Peter,

Have you trained your dog for gold sniffing? From the photo she has lead you to some highly minerized ground.

I thought the Gaffa was there to keep the sun off her nose.

Kath,

Not to mention that Peter is making sordid plans to run off and mount Celia. The question is, who is Celia and how many others have mounted her before him??
I'm shocked!, Peter seemed such a nice man. :D
