Hi, I thought seeing as I have had no luck in finding out where this originated from I thought I might as well chuck it in here to see if anyone else can throw some light onto it. When stationed in Augusta in 1976 and in the process of puting in place some firebreaks, I happened to lose the nuts and washers off the offset discs I was using at the time when one of the discs came off. After hunting around for 10 ~ 15 minutes or so it was obvious that I was not going to find the lost nuts and washers so I decided to head home and pick up my metal detector and see if I could locate them in the last furrow cut. Well I returned with what was almost the latest detector at the time and this being a Whites 6DB. About half and hour was spent following my last cut with the plough when I got quite a strong signal but not what I would expect from the large retaining nut and washer that had come loose and lost. On digging the sound it turned out to be a silver locket and I guess by the remnants of the old slotted post and paling that meandered through this Karri forest it may have been lost by the person who first put this in. Anyways I did locate the missing nuts and washers later but here is the picture of the locket. Cheers, Trevor. ![]() |

Hi Marty, Yes its an actual locket that allows one to place two photographs inside. If I get time later tonight I will scan and include on here. Cheers, TWA. |

Hi Marty, Attached are the 3 views of Locket. Like I have said before I have been unable to find out the history of this but I think this would date out around the late 1800s as the farming in this area was in and around 1856 or there abouts. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by TWA, Wednesday 29-04-2009, 21:07.

Evening TWA, You would be on "Easy Street" if Sir Donald Bradman's photo was in there when you found it. That aside, no doubt a treasured find. Peter |

G-day Peter, You would'nt happen to have a period photo of Donny Boy would you? We could place it inside and go half. When I first found this I was wondering if it had anything to do with the first Ashes Test, but who knows, it may be some sort of cricket memorabilia. Cheers, Trevor. |

Probably day late and a dollar short....but here goes anyway. Years ago I used to fish the Augusta area, and a favorite spot, was a little creek that feeds from the dead water - back up to swan lake I think its called - east of Augusta... Just in that area is a holiday house / shack, that fronts onto the creek between the dead water part of the estuary, which you can only get too from the East Augusta road - its sort of in behind the rubbish tip on that east side of the river, if that makes sense. I guess I could find a google pic if you like. Anyway a mate of mine fresh out from Canada (who lives in Augusta now days) walked up this creek with his fly rod and landed a 5 pound black bream right out front of the house there. Turns out he met the owners there another time - and was talking about the bream - they claimed they knew of it and had been feeding t prawn scraps etc for years apparently. Anyway - it turns out the holiday house owner, was cricketing legend Dennis Lillee. He does like his privacy, but s a nice guy to talk with - being a cricket relic - if it was found anywhere east of Augusta in that area - well - There's a chance that Dennis or maybe one of his family predecessors might have lost it maybe. Couldn't hurt to pop round at holiday time one day when he's home and ask him - you just never know, if it is his or his families and you return it - you might get some token of his appreciation, maybe a signed thanks note or something.. He's a decent guy and I'm sure would appreciate it back if indeed it is his or his families. If not I reckon he might have an inkling what it's relationship to cricket in the area is... Cheers |

G'day Lucky, Unfortunately it was nowhere east of Augusta but it was west of it and it was found alongside an old paling fence line, and I would estimate it was lost around about the the end of the 1890s or there abouts, I dont think Lillees father was even born around that time. I have carried out quite a bit of research and had cricket forums and others to try and find out the history of this but to no avail. I guess I will check out some more sources later when Im retired, will have a heap more time on my hands by then. Cheers, Trevor. |
