Hello to all of you's. Does any of you have an idea,of how old this publicity on Fosters would be. A little story of how I got hold of it. Here in France,in the town of Anduze.Every sunday they have a flea market. And a few years ago,I came across this object. I bought it for 20 euro's,and the guy who sold it to me,told a bit of history on it. In the 70's,he was in Perth with the French Navy, and he bought it there. He brought it back,to France in the ship. Now he wanted to turn the page, and was selling it. It is 59cm high by 90cm long, and it is painted by hand. The beer bottle is in three dimension. Thank you for your help. Bye dom

Hi Dom I went bush in 1972 and left Perth MEtro area for the North of WA. I'm pretty sure Fosters was not widely available then in Perth you had to drink Emu or Swan lager with EMU Export (Wifebasher) or Swan lager being the drink most drunk. It may have been intoduced later in the 70's in WA I'm sure no self respecting West Aussie would drink any Victorian rubbish (or even talk to a Victorian or NS Welshman) at the time. Things have changed now, we drink beer with lemons in it and we allow Eastern States people to migrate to WA. There is a lot of info on Google about it and Wikipedia has a nice rundown of Fosters at the following URL http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foster's_Lager Good luck Bill |

Hi Dom, For what its worth I'm not sure, but it looks very much like what used to be sold at the Fremantle Markets back around the 70s. Where I saw similar signs that were made for when people first started to make a bar a feature in there homes. So I would hazard a guess that it would be a one of, if it is one of those. From memory the person would also make signs to order for what ever they wanted. If there are other members on here who may have gone to the Fremantle Markets might remember more. Cheers, Trevor. |

Hello Dom, Sorry to say this item is not connected to the Australian Fosters Beer its origin is from the Foster Company in the UK. My guess it was brought to Australia by an early English immigrant. ***Note: Fosters and Foster **** I posted a query with the Australian Fosters Group and below is their reply. Subject Fosters advertisement Discussion Thread Response (Cassie) 05/03/2009 02:09 PM Hi Peter, Thank you for taking the time to contact us at Foster's. This is one of the reproduction Inn Signs from England. FOSTER was an old English brand. Not Australian. Please contact us again should you have any further queries we can assist you with. Hello,Peter Thank you ,for contacting Foster's. So finally this object has more to reveal than I would have thought. Originally an Inn sign in England, then reproduced in England or Australia who knows? And now it came back to the old world, but on the other side of the channel. Yes,this piece of wood sure did travel. Thank you,Peter Cheers dom. |
