Hi folks Just wondering if anyone has used a Chescold 3 way for a freezer only (which is what we plan to do this year). The regulator switch (on the fridge) just says max or min. So I guess to keep things frozen we would probably have to use the maximum setting. Not really any instructions on the actual running of it on gas. Only what the regulator pressure has to be etc. Was thinking that if anyone else has had one of these C40 their experience would be greatly appreciated. I guess it will be a fair bit of trial and error as to where we may be able to set the switch. We haven't got the solar panels to go with one of the compressor fridges so our best avenue was to use LPG. Thanks Lyn |

Hi Lyn Yes I have had a 3way chescold for about 15yrs,the musterdey colour type all metal,it has served me well and still useing it. They work very well on gas and 240v,but not so good on 12v,I used to freeze everything 3 days before my trip in my home freezer, have the chescold running on 240v on max for a couple of days, load it up when ready for travelling,I found i didnt even plug it into 12v whilst travelling, just at the end of the day switch it onto gas or 240v whichever is available. I found that it held frozen during the day ok. When I camp for a week or so running it on gas you dont have to have it turned right up,just keep turning it back till it keeps everything frozen. Haveing turned full bore only uses extra gas when not necessary. Keep them out of the sun and away from the breeze or wind, you will find useing it as a freezer your not going into it alot and keeps frozen. Hope this helps,

Thanks Jon Your comments have helped rest my mind. Chris has rigged up a 12volt system for when we are coming across 'the paddock'. He has it on a separate wire and plug. Bought the Anderson? plug for it as the other towing plugs are no good for this. When camped overnight (takes us around 3 sleeps to get across) we will have it on the gas. I'm looking forward to the benefits of the wee freezer. Our fridge in the van only has a tiny frost box. It's okay when I can pack it from home but when we are in the likes of Laverton and can only buy mostly frozen meat I can't get very much into it at all. The added bonus is that Chris has made a spot in the van for it to live. He's done a real good job of making a flue to take those nasty fumes out. So we won't have to worry about the wind extinguishing the gas nor will we get dust in the jets whilst travelling. Cheers Lyn |
